Then you should have said "yeah? well some people have their heads up their..." Bad grocery cart drivers make me INSANE. What is going through someone's head when they just leave the cart in the middle of an aisle obstructing the way? Nothing, apparently... This is one of the reasons I hate "everyday" grocery shopping. I very much enjoy the trips to various markets and specialty stores.

I've suspected this for quite some time.

The first thing I saw when I went to page 10 was the ad for the malpractice law firm. I thought I was going to read a testimonial from John W. on the huge settlement he received from a botched operation or something.

What'd she have? Anything stand out?

Plus, if you look at their wholesale page, you can purchase bull lips as bait for your crab pots!

There really aren't any independent butchers in the SS/Rockville area. The butchers at the Kentlands Whole Foods (not Rockville) are very good, but if I want something special I go to Sutton Place in Bethesda. They have very good meat, good sausages, and the guys behind the counter are great. It's the only place where we can reliably get tasso, andouille, and smoked, not fresh, chorizo. I've never been, and I know it's a haul, but there is a butcher shop up near Ellicott City called Treuths: http://www.jwtreuth.com/index2.html

Welcome to eGullet, Joe-- I think I've been to the strip district in Pittsburgh once, albeit briefly. I can't really think of something similar around here. You might try the DC Farmer's market off 6th and Florida NE. The have an excellent Italian store there at least. I often find myself having to visit 2 or more grocery stores to get all I need to make any kind of involved meal. I live in Alexandria so it isn't too unusual for me to go to Sutton Place, Giant, and then maybe trek over to Arlington for Whole Foods. I have yet to get to that bakery you mention, but I know right were it is. Perhaps I'll give it a try this weekend. I work in Silver Spring-- doesn't have a lot going for it shopping-wise, but there is a great little Italian deli on Colesville and (near) Georgia called Marco's, and you can head up into Wheaton for lots of Asian grocery stores. Well done. I love gravlax-- I need to try making it myself one of these days. After an article like that, perhaps I need to take out a personals ad: SWM seeks single open-minded ½ Norwegian ½ Inuit Jewish female epicure with attractive and finely tuned Krause’s End Bulbs for long walks on the beach, nights by the fireplace, and greatly gratifying gravlax grooving.

Whoa...do you have proof of this? I thought it was common knowledge that Hoegarders at 2am will kill you. At 9am is just fine though.

Must. Make. Chili. This. Weekend. Chorizo is catching my eye in the above threads. This will be part of the equation. I'll be making plenty-- drop on by!

I will never again wake up, load up the coffee maker, log on to eGullet, check out the latest in the BK/Bayless debate, and then hear the sound of liquid sizzling on a burner. Yep, didn't put the pot under the drip basket. Coffee everywhere except where I need it-- IN MY BELLY! Extra bonus: burnt finger from trying to clean up and hitting the hot burner. Yours, Einstein

But what if the newspaper is coming out in support of a specific politician because of, say, his public works program, despite the fact that he's a neo-nazi? To me, that would be an endorsement of the politician.

But at question should be, first, the nature of the sandwich, since that's what he's truly endorsing, not BK as a whole. It's certainly reasonable to condemn his actions because they help an otherwise immoral company, but I imagine he's compartmentalizing, saying that this sandwich is a step in the right direction and that he's not endorsing all their food, only the sandwich and this movement within BK. He is, in fact, endorsing BK. It's unavoidable. It isn't as though the ads recommend avoiding all else at BK. That being said, I do think you're right about this argument being blown out of proportion. Sheesh.

eh, not really...let's just say that she and I have had that as a private joke for a while. Definitely a fan though, but not a creepy one. We just like to drink and cook and have a good time, y'know? The line for blowing AB starts behind me... and I am an admitted creepy fan. I think it cost's $40 though... I'm just going to shake his hand though I'm trying to figure out if the handshake would cost more or less than the bj.

I don't understand this analogy. In the physicist's case he misunderstood the nature of the atom, which at the time was largely unknown. He was simply mistaken. I'd say Bayless must have had a clear understanding of the "nature" of BK. There's no way he could have believed that endorsing one of BK's products would in turn cause them to conform to his ideals.

we indians don't really have that excuse Sounds like a good idea for a thread. If you opened an American restaurant in India, what would you call it?

If you're referring to the obelisk that's the Washington Monument, I agree: don't miss it - that's the only one in this town that has had proper upkeep (though I strongly preferred it when it was draped with blue fabric). You can get a great view of the Washington Monument from the cafe on the top of the Hotel Washington on 15th St NE. Sadly the food there does not live up to the view. Check that avatar! All supahfly...

That's how I got here. I'm an admitted fan of flaco, a part-time foodie, ex-line cook, and a member of one other message board (somethingawful.com.) I always enjoyed the occasional foodie thread on SA, but I was delighted to find a whole foodie board here. Getting way off topic here. Also, Tony, if Bayless won't blow you my girlfriend will. Bourdain worship reaches a whole new level...

YIKES. Are you serious? I just can't seem to picture BOTH of them gettin all liquored up at a book signing-- and as late as 1996? Well, I am thankful he had his TV series when he did. Looking back, I think those shows and a couple of his books I picked up really got me hooked on cooking.
