  1. Menton- I've been able to obtain all types of maple syrup at most of my local supermarkets...
  2. I was very unimpressed with L'Affriolé the one time I was there. Average food, and cold service. I really don't see what all the fuss is (was) about. AS for Cap Vernet, I think this is an excellent seafood bistro, much better than any of the area seafood restaurants, like the very over-rated and pricey Bistro de Marius. Bistro de l'Etoile has not been run by Guy Savoy for years now, and I've been unimpressed every time I went there. Au Bon Accueil used to be good value, I guess, but I haven't been there recently. I think they may have a problem with consistancy , as I once had an unfresh pigeon, and they refused to believe me...
  3. Aux Lyonnais is a great place, but nothing to do with the vastly superior three-star Restaurant du Plaza Athenée. Two different types of establishments. I would forget Chez Georges, which I have found very disappointing and touristy recently. Jamin is great! Just had a fantastic meal there not too long ago: charming establishment, excellent service, and simple creative cooking, as good as any two-star I've been to in Paris, and , to me, even more enjoyable as an over-all experience than Arpege...
  4. After all the brouhaha concerning the Michelin Guide, this looks to be an interesting read...
  5. Actually this restaurant has been around for years, and is owned by MICHEL Rostang, the famous two-star chef. It's a relatively good value for money in a very upmarket area.
  6. Mon Vieil Ami. Owned by three-star chef Antoine Westermann. Run by his first in command. Accolades of all kind, including the recent "Best Modern Bistro" by Lebey. And a 38 Euro menu, unbeatable in Paris for this level of cuisine. Here's a link to Patricia Well's recent review.
  7. I had an amazing experience at Le Grand Véfour, and their specialty, foie gras ravioli with truffle sauce was one of the most enjoyable things ever to cross my mouth... My top fave in the three-star range still has to be Guy Savoy, though. Perfect, friendly, supremely professional service, and a cuisine beyond reproach.
  8. Try this interesting link to the IHT article today on this subject: http://www.iht.com/articles/131317.html
  9. I was speaking with the CEO of Starbucks Europe this evening who told me there were 2500 people for the opening yesterday..somez people were there at 4H30 am to get in!
  10. There are good Turkish restaurants in Paris?? Please don't tell me near the Saint Michel area...
  11. La Grande Bouffe

    Robuchon

Last time I went, the purée was too liquidy, but still good. Can't wait to try to the spare-ribs on the new menu!!
  13. An interesting aside is that the owner of Seize au Seize, Greek billionaire Theodore Margellos, actually owns Joel Robuchon's Atelier in Paris (or is the major financial partner at 49%) Here's a small mention of him at the bottom of this article...
  14. Don't suppose this would help...
  15. Fréderic is a great guy, I knew him when he worked at Le Cinq...
  16. A few colleagues of mine went, and were quite impressed. A clean modern decor, good creative food at reasonable prices (38 euros menu)
  17. Guy Savoy does not do a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. It is not a French tradition. He did however do a pumpkin soup with white truffles that was quite good...
  18. I don't know any French waiters who are disappointed to have a big tip. Any waiters anywhere, for that matter!
  19. Let`s not forget that there are seven combined Michelin stars in L'Atelier's kitchen...
  20. Towards the "entrance-escalator side" is NOT the Georges restaurant. It is the Pompidou Center escalator that brings you to the George restaurant level. From the George restaurants ITSELF (seated at ANY of their tables), there is no view of the Eiffel Tower as you give the impression in your post...
  21. Why would anyone go to Willi's Wine Bar to eat?
  22. And Gagnaire's probably in HK to prepare the market for Hong Kong Sketch!
  23. Actually "L'Oulette", is the ONLY gastronomic choice near Bercy, unless you count Le Quincy or La Biche au Bois..
  24. I enjoyed the report. One thing, though, is that you cannot see the Eiffel Tower from Le Georges....strange
