I think we need some quantities here at least for the crust. I have never aspired to make an “authentic” Neapolitan pizza. I have often aspired to make an authentic 20 minutes pizza.

Gotcha. I’ve been guilty of that myself and my best friend is frequently guilty of it. Aren’t you @Kerry Beal? -
Whew. I was beginning to worry that you had some health issue or other! Or perhaps far too much will-power for your own good.

Spicy bean sprout salad, hamukatsu, green beans with sesame miso dressing and mushrooms steamed with sake, soy and ginger.

Sorry but this threw me. Did not know what this had to do with spiced wafers. -
Are you kidding me? These things are like potato chips. You can’t eat just one.I should’ve sent them all home with my son last night.

I fell for this one. $1.99 on .ca.

Green beans with miso dressing, canned herring in tomato sauce, spicy bean sprout salad and cherry tomato miso soup. Should have had some rice but getting a multi-dish Japanese meal together is challenging enough at the moment. 😊

I’m probably being quite dense but what are “these”? -

Next time I will definitely try a smaller scoop. They are delicious but I don’t need all the calories! Small cookies suit me better and you can share 55 cookies so many ways! -

Thank you. No worries. The over done ones are the bestest! I will claim those. -
I made these. You can see them here.

Copycat Spiced Wafers from here. Since I have never seen these or tasted them I cannot be sure how close they are to the manufactured ones. There was some complaint that the wafers in the linked recipe were not dark enough. I am showing you this one on parchment paper to give you an idea of the colour. Where the recipe says that these spread – – believe it! I found I got a much better looking cookies using an almost new quarter sheet pan than those baked on well used and hence darker ones. Whether or not these resemble the commercial version they are damn good cookies. -
Tofu scramble reheated with the addition of some ham and some chili oil. The chili oil, a Japanese brand, has the tiniest dispenser nozzle. I could not detect any chilli oil leaving it so I continued shaking. I’m awake now. I am sure my taste buds will recover.

I am becoming quite enamoured of these Japanese “sandwiches”. I have fashioned a mould from a small Snaplock container so the assembly has become much easier and faster. This one is a duck egg omelet and some sautéed mixed mushrooms seasoned with soy sauce.

Today Kerry and I decided to check out a Brewhouse in Burlington. Click. It had been recommended by a close relative who raved about food, and the service etc. etc. We eventually received some service when I called out to the four staff members hanging around The podium and chatting animatedly not even a table width away from us. Beer for me. The server asked, “Would you like a glass with that?” Really? No, in such a public place I’d be happy to just swig it out of a bottle. Tea for Kerry. Tell me in which restaurant are you presented with a teapot and tea cup and the tea bag is in the cup not in the pot? A teabag which is been drowned in milk does not make for a very good cup of tea. In fairness the server did her best to rectify the situation by bringing another pot of tea with two teabags in it. Not the best calamari we’ve ever had but certainly quite passable. same for the poutine. But this? This is a charcuterie platter or at least that’s what the menu claims. It occurred to me as soon as it was put down on the table that I could’ve gone to almost any supermarket and ordered some deli ends and come away with more and better offerings. The cheese pot was bland. But the soft pretzels although not a bit like pretzels were quite good. I don’t usually comment so much on the restaurants we visit as I’ve said from the beginning we are not reviewing them. But really this one was off the mark in terms of price versus quality and I couldn’t stay quiet. But we still managed to look on the bright side. There’s another restaurant we can cross off the list!

I am beginning to worry. I don’t want to start that kind of a trend.😦 But it beats “clean eating” by quite a bit.

I had actually spotted this book the last time I was in HomeSense. I picked it up and was about to buy it when the thought hit me that I live alone, I have few visitors, I rarely make anything that will fill a 9 x 13 pan anymore. Duh. Hence I do not own it.

Did you know that there were quite a number of books devoted to the 9 x 13? Here’s just one of them: Click.

Chicken kara-age and tofu scramble. And for dessert the last of the three perfect peaches that were a gift.
