  1. My spices, which are mostly Penney’s 1/2 cup and a few 1/4 cup jars, are stored in a corner carousel cabinet or, for the most fragile and oft-used, in a closed bin in the fridge door (which I believe was originally intended for fresh fruit).

Breakfast for dinner again.  I overcooked the eggs a tad.  The hash browns were from dehydrated (I guess that's what you'd call them).  They came from Costco in an eight-pack of 16 oz cartons like small milk cartons.  Each one is supposed to be 7 servings, and you add water right in the carton.  Not wanting to make that much, I weighed out the carton into four equal portions on 30 grams apiece, packaged up three of them in sandwich bags for use later and re-hydrated the last portion.  It works out to 4 ozs of water.  They were pretty good actually.

My friends who have a cabin in E. Washington buy those Costco potatoes to use on their camp stove.  They're good and easy to prepare and there's no spoilage factor.

  3. Today I joined a friend for lunch in town at Stone of Accord for some wonderful Irish food and a good beer.

We both chose the bangers and mash with veg. And the best onion gravy.

One of our favorite places.  I've been dreaming of this since St, Patrick's Day.

  4. This does not relate to  LP stoves, you may want to ignore.

LP is quite common here as many folk live on acreage in underdeveloped areas.

Citified areas and larger neighborhoods have natural gas.  I live in one of those.

I have heard of no complaints about LP other than this occurrence:

A group of us went to a small party at a friend's home who has LP.

When we entered thru the garage I smelled gas.  I mentioned it to the homeowner and urged her to report it.

Well, if you have natural gas here and smell a leak reporting it will bring someone from the energy company immediately to check it out.

In her case, to have someone come to check on her gas lines would cost her $80 for the service call which she could ill afford..  She was able to find someone she knew to come and check and fix the leak but it took several days....could have has a bad outcome.

Also, my physical therapist has LP in her home and complains about how expensive it is.  They primarily use a pellet stove for heat.

I wouldn't want to do that in the winters we have here; the outlying rooms could get awfully cold.

Thanks all!!  I'm glad I asked.  I was looking at spending $60 on 2 before I asked

I am mainly going to be using it for eggs and shrimp/fish.  Things that don't need high heat.  Yes, I could use my cast iron, but as I said above, I really don't want to be bothered to wash them.  It's a pain in the ass and I can never seem to get them clean.

Have you ever tried Barkeepers' Friend?  I use it all the time for my enameled cast iron and my stainless.

So, my trip is a bit embarrassing, food-wise...

after a very turbulent and hot (temperature wise) United shuttle flight I was on about an hour of sleep and really stressed out. We went to HoM ( http://www.homcharleston.com/ ) after leaving our bags at the apartment we rented which was still being cleaned. It was really good, we got the fancy tots, my husband had the Cowboy Killer and those “fried onions” were three onion rings that had to have been battered with a type of funnel cake. Really different in a good way. I had the backyard burger. I then passed out for 6 hours!

We had already bought wine and beer and I was hungry and, for shame (although I enjoyed it) we had ihop delivered via UberEats.

Saturday, my birthday, we went to Hall’s Chophouse. It wasn’t cheap but it was amazing. The hospitality was above and beyond— we received free champagne as it was my birthday. We had stone crab claws, my husband had the ribeye and I have a 4 oz Waygu A5 and couldn’t finish it— so rich. We had the pepper jack creamed corn, fried okra and sautéed mushrooms with a bottle of Heinz Cabernet. They offer half portions of the sides so you can try more. We took a pedicab home which I loved.

    Happy birthday!!!

My husband loves beets to.  I like all vegetables, even celery and green peppers ;)

Me too, I can’t  think of a single vegetable that I DON'T like.

Guilt free potato chips.  sliced thin, soaked in cold water for 30 minutes, dried well, 1 russet needs about one tsp oil, same setting as french fries.  Keep shaking and moving the chips so they don't stick together.....make while you are in the kitchen doing something else.

    Thank you!

I am so going to make some of these in my Airfryer!

  9. There's this recommendation:

    Non stick pans

I have a couple All Clad non-stick sauté pans which are my personal preference; both are about ten years old and have held up well.

The newer All Clad, however, is now hard-anodized.  I haven't tried that but had Calphalon hard-anodized many years ago and it was just okay.

  10. I happened to spot my sourdough starter while digging around in the fridge for something.

It's been there a while but I brought it out and will start resurrecting it today.  It may take a number of feedings to get it going good again since it's been put away for quite a long time.

My favorite Raisin Bread recipe is here.

  11. I often crave tuna salad sandwiches.  I have some Genova yellow fin canned tuna and some very nice honey wheat bread from my favorite bake shop.   I may have to mix some up today.  I like mine with mayo, white pepper, sweet pickle relish (Steinfeld's, preferably) minced onion and celery.  Yum.
