  2. Dum-Dums? Never heard of them.
  3. Yeah. Who wants an apple when they're already forced on you by your Mom?
  4. I do too.
  5. That was my favorite treat at Halloween. I was lucky if I even got one of them.
  6. I love my IPot, in fact I have two of them. The SV, not so much. Just not my style of cooking. I gave my Anova away. (old dog, new tricks, you know.)
  7. Here in the Northern Rockies we're setting records for the cold.
  8. Yay for Oregon!!!
  9. One year DH and I were on a trip to the Seattle area and I was driving; made a wrong turn coming out of a rest area so we decided we'd try to find our way back and got kind of lost. (I am notoriously bad at directions and tell everyone that I can get lost leaving an empty room.) Anyway, our new route took us through orchard country and I've never seen so many apple trees...miles and miles of them. Interesting, all kinds of fruit trees and lots of picking going on.
  10. For me it’s often soup, any kind. I just love making it nearly as much as I like bread-making. Next, maybe tomorrow, is Beef Bourguignon.
  11. Yes. I don't think electric can openers are particularly useful any longer. They're big and clumsy and take up counter space. I haven't used one in years since we bought the Oxo. It fits in a drawer and is very easy to use even if you have hand issues (like me). It requires very little effort to open anything.

    Nasty Ingredients

The wild turkeys here aren't very big, under well under ten pounds or so, I'd guess. I used to enjoy going out for the newspaper In the early morning and hearing their distinctive gobble coming from down the road. I had friends in a different neighborhood, however, who complained about the big groups that would come onto their property and poop all over their yard and driveway making quite a mess. I don't see as many these days as I used to but sometimes there are great flocks of them along the highways.

    Dinner 2019

My dinner tonight is a simple Potato Leek Soup from onceuponachef.com. Easy, which is paramount for me these days. It smells really good, I will report later after I’ve tasted it.
  14. Tonight’s cocktail recipe arrived in my inbox this morning. Apple Brandy Hot Toddy. Didn’t have Apple brandy, used Laird’s Applrjack. No honey liqueur, used regular clover honey. A nice drink on a chilly evening.
  15. I've started to unload the d/w only to discover that I forgot to run it or didn't push the start button. Oops, dishes still dirty. I can't always tell right away because I rinse pretty thoroughly before loading.

    Dinner 2019

Tonight's dinner will be Korean style short ribs. Into the slow cooker about 10AM. I've made these before and they're quite delicious.

    Dinner 2019

Polish cabbage soup is in the Dutch oven for tonight’s dinner. Pork butt, carrots, celery, onion, herbs, bay leaves (is that an herb?)’ potato, beef broth and, of course,, cabbage. My Mom’s recipe. Smells so good. Will serve with some nice homemade Amish bread.

    Costco

Without a doubt the best rotisserie chickens out there. Whenever possible serve before you refrigerate, they taste much better that way.
  20. Today’s loaf is Amish Potato Bread Warning, this one’s a grower.
  21. good to know, I’m sure I"ll need it someday.
  22. It’s a chilly evening here and I"m enjoying an Irish Coffee...finishing up that bottle of Jameson"s.

    Oreo Cookies

I do like Oreos, the original ones, but my two favorites are the Sweetzels Spiced Wafers (which I can't get here) and Biscoff (that I can get from Amazon or Walmart). My grocery's bakery also makes some very nice Ginger Snaps.
  24. It just looks....well, rustic. actually quite nice.
  25. Now that the weather is turning for some of us, I find myself looking for soothing hot drinks. I have a few: Percolator Punch, Irish Coffee, Tom & Jerry, et al. What are your faves? I’m always looking for new options.
