  1. Dinner. Tomatoes, basil, and burrata salad. Roasted capone White meat for my husband Dark meat for me
  2. But we have plenty of ice (or snow)! So all beverages should be OK.
  3. Shelby, our stove is electric. Damn that condo building. Blankets are ready. Laundry is done. I have access to Hospital facilities for showers so that helps in case power is out. Vacuuming can wait till whenever .
  4. Bourbon aside, may be we do not have enough wine...
  5. Oh, I forgot to mention that I infused bourbon with Benton's bacon. Two great tastes reunited at last.
  6. Thank you Lisa Shock. Excellent suggestions. Boiling eggs right now. Boiling pasta to make pasta salad. I can not grill due to living in a condo building (trade off for a great view).
  7. It seems that DC area is not prepared for any inclement weather. Rain or snow sends us into panic mode. I actually tried to buy food last night and the night before but lines were so long that I simply left and cooked with whatever we had in the fridge. Long food lines give me PTSD after growing up in Soviet Russia.
  8. Roasted pork at steam roast 350 degrees for two hours. It was a large roast so I cooked the other half in pressure cooker. Cuisinart pork wins hands down. Although I did get nice broth in pressure cooker.

    Dry whites for cooking

Do you have sous vide? You can probably sous vide left over wine and it will last for a while. I never tried it since drinking whats left in the bottle after cooking seems to be a logical choice in our household.
  10. Something good about the inclement weather. Williams Sonoma is currently having 30% off all sale and clearance but due to the weather all food items were extra 50% off (at least in Arlington store). I bought Acquerello risotto rice 500 gr tin for about 4 dollars. It is near expiration date but that does not bother me. Usual price is about 19 dollars even on Amazon. I mean I bought several tins. Actually, all four that they had. May have to start gifting.
  11. Breakfast today (technically prior to blizzard but one needs to practice): roasted pork, fried egg, kimchi.
  12. My husband's contribution: water in bathtub and tasty beverage.
  13. Went to grocery store this morning. Empty shelves. And long lines. My plan was to make a loaf of bread and to roast a chicken. You can eat that cold in case power goes out. No chicken. But there was a frozen capon. I never cooked capon so it is a bonus to try something new. And it was on sale.
  14. We live in Arlington VA which is currently experiencing one of the worst snow storms in history, blizzard to be precise. Nothing to do but to cook. Not that it is any hardship. My closet also needs attention but that would be hardship. No snow this morning. Started to snow around 2 PM. Current view Usual view
  15. Les Bones were delicious. And yes, there was toast involved but it was so mundane compared to the silky bone marrow...
  16. Beautiful marrow bones (12 pieces for about 4.50) in a surprisingly upscale Giant in Prince Frederick near our beach house. 350 degrees steam bake for 30 minutes. Got few tablespoons of beef fat as a bonus from roasting four pieces.
  17. A gorgeous 12 inch well seasoned cast iron skillet from our beach house neighbors who own an antique store.
  18. Not my photo, but still deserves to be on this thread
  19. Pre order price of 199 also includes access to Chefsteps premium content.
  20. Baby turnips steam baked for 25 minutes, broiled for 10 minutes. Oh so sweet!
  21. Happy birthday, Kerry! Are you going out or cooking in?
