A minor correction on my order i got this : https://fatherscountryhams.com/collections/hocks-seasoning-meat/products/fathers-bacon-seasoning-6-pack-bs6 its " Father's Country Bacon Seasoning " I mistakenly read into this that it might be 6 flavored i.e. seasoning packs from this : https://fatherscountryhams.com/collections/bacon/products/americas-best-country-bacon-selection-abbs its not. Im guessing its the standard hickory bacon I actually prefer standard bacon to seasoned bacon

This is the closest I've ever been to the genuine KFC recipe
rotuts replied to a topic in Ready to Eat
look into Todd Wilbur there are books and a TV show. KFC might be one he ' won ' a duplication contest. his shows are fun to watch. -
Nope. Im a Benton's Man. my sister sent me some of their bacon and that's that' not top suggest that F's is not as good. just that's that' Ill review after i try the 6 pack of F's seasoned stuff but for me Bacon is 'hard wood' cured. I can add my Personal Seasoning to that. What ! no BratWust bacon ? I do use Penzey's Bratwurst seasoning on scarab;ed eggs just an idea ; BratWurst Smoked Bacon.

P.S.: fortunately Pig Fat is significantly healthier than Beef or Chicken or Turkey fat, its a bit of a shame that ducks , with their therapeutic fat [ed.: water fowl , i.e. animals that fly w features and land and swim in ice cold water have therapeutic fat for Folks like Me built in Statins I call the effect ] don't have Hocks this big. just saying.

here is my order : Hocks and Bacon , in the box. its a big box 12 hocks on the counter. the size varies a little , but all are larger than I expected. viz a viz hocks ive purchased in the supermaket this are much more like little hams. the bacon seasoning sample. again much larger than I tho0ugh. I was going to weigh a few , but the scale demanded new batteries and I was missing the point . you will be pleased w all sizes the UPS box said 19 lbs , so Im guessing 18 + lbs products. im as please as Ive ever been with any new order w this particular Father's new oder. indeed this tops them all. the box was so heavy that I developed Quite the Thirst , which I have to deal with right now. outstanding stuff , and for the total price a real bargain Im still a might fan of Benton's Bacon but high quality country smoke pig ' seasoning ' product , Im set for several years. and the packaging does not need further VacPacking you might need a new Freezer , though.

the NYTimes has an article on Amazon/WF in the paper: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/01/technology/bit-by-bit-whole-foods-gets-an-amazon-touch.html for review purposes a few snip its : "" Some signs are subtle, like the “Whole Foods + Amazon” one near the bananas. Others are more obvious, like the kiosk with Amazon devices for sale. It has been six months since Amazon took over Whole Foods, a $13.4 billion deal that made the internet retailer a major player in the world of brick-and-mortar retailing. For the most part, the 470 stores are still the same upscale, expensive healthy food emporiums that they have always been. Amazon has grander ambitions as well. The company’s executives are busy devising ways to connect its Prime membership program, which offers benefits like fast and free shipping and video streaming, with the stores."" "" The company has said that Prime will eventually become the Whole Foods customer rewards program. It recently took a baby step in the direction of weaving together Prime and Whole Foods by giving Prime members 5 percent back on Whole Foods purchases made with an Amazon-branded Visa card. Whole Foods has signs about the offer all over its checkout stands.'' "" A few days before Amazon completed its acquisition of Whole Foods, it announced a series of price cuts on grocery items, a move to change the perception of the chain as “Whole Paycheck.” It slashed the price of a dozen Organic Valley large brown eggs by 27 percent and cut the cost of a 16 ounce jar of 365 brand crunch almond butter by 13 percent. For Thanksgiving, it made turkeys cheaper, and for Valentine’s Day, it dropped the price on roses. Still, much of the selection in Whole Foods stores still carries premium price tags. Studies by analysts have shown that overall prices on typical Whole Foods shopping expeditions have decreased only slightly. Whole Foods said there was more to come. “We’ve done quite a bit,” Brooke Buchanan, a spokeswoman for the market, said. “There’s still so much more we have planned.” "" of AMZN ( seems to be pushing its electronic gadgets : "" The most conspicuous sign of Amazon’s agenda inside Whole Foods is the kiosks containing Amazon electronics that now lurk near store aisles. Not far from the Honeycrisp apples and bulk bins of granola, shoppers can now pick up an Echo, a Fire TV or a Kindle. In a handful of Whole Foods stores, including in Denver and Chicago, Amazon has opened big electronics stands called pop-up shops, which are staffed by Amazon employees who can answer questions about the devices. The pop-up shops, which are at dozens of shopping malls around the country, give shoppers an opportunity to try the devices in person, something they cannot do when they browse online.'' other than that , not really that much brand new in the article.

@lindag that's why I put two sets in my cart. It looks like they are Vacsealed. if sealed well I just freeze them that way or add another VacSeal as i have a sealer.

@TdeV Bentons has some excellent hams some are ' older ' and prosciutto-like "" Our Aged Whole Bone In Country Hams are dry cured and hickory smoked: incorporating time, patience, and the traditional family recipe to produce a delicious product. These hams are aged 12-14 months, giving them a much more complex and intense flavor that many of our customers prefer when enjoying them as charcuterie; similar to how folks enjoy an Italian prosciutto ham or Spanish serrano ham. "" https://shop.bentonscountryham.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=awch they seem to be very reasonably priced. my Hocks and Trimming Sample is said by UPS to be arriving today. Unless the UPSs truck gets washed away by the rain. and yes I know I should not joke about bad weather.

Ah yes. but better to admire it on you shelf.

@Anna N i bet they bought that little puppy somewhere in the GTA ask next time.

interesting its available in USA from Gourmet Kitchen Gallery via Amazon USA for 199 USD free shipping maybe no tax unless you haven't left NJ just yet. alas, [ed.: He knows you've been waiting for it ] no steam also some reviews on Amazon suggest very poor support unlike what Ive experienced w the CSO I wonder if this is just a ' branded' product and not a product created from scratch by Cuisinart. 200 USD for baking seems nice, if the support were there.

I agree IACP should dissolve itself pick 4 other letters , and precipitate. then give the award back. easy peasy. a P.S.: https://www.eater.com/2017/5/3/15500638/james-beard-award-restaurant-reservations-business-economics

the book stands on its own. an award , any award , cannot change that. Awards perpetuate more awards. IACP screwed up badly. but the book has not.
-
@kayb that's close id never cook proscuitto nor older country hams but the others: after a really really long soak and simmer the only way Id eat ' ham .
-
@TdeV well its Ham , but intense in the best possible way. if you have only had ' store ham ' or Canned Ham as I had growing up baked w cloves etc this is much more intense if you want to try it, go to one of the above and get some vacuum packed slices it salty but you can soak in in ice cold water first. Mu Uncle , in Ohio used to get these and soaked them for a few days changed the water then baked them I was albe to stop by on the way to Job ! cooked , cooled and ready for snacks unbelievable it was.

I think I mentioned way back in this topic or a topic about what your SuperMarket had both ready to eat or to take home and cook. my higher-end Supemarket Roche Brothers , a family chain in the BOS area and a fine store had both microwave packs and cook in your oven packs changed daily and ' fresh ' what Interested me about this is that a supermarket has Tons of fresh stuff packing that Stuff for home use , either in a kit or for your oven or your Micro makes a great deal of economic sense : if you think of economics as efficiency using a delivery service , UPS or what have you adds an additional cost layer one might need that but I was intrigued to see that a supermarket has 'Pick me up , and cook me tonight packs ' now we await The Amazonians to deal w this via WF.

@lindag http://www.fatherscountryhams.com/all-products/hocks-seasoning-meat.html its under " Hocks and seasoning meat "

@btbyrd how do you make the dash ? Ill freeze the bacon seasoning and use the fat finely chopped up in my turkey meat loaf which starts out 93 % lean. thanks for the tip on the shocks. they were very nice over the phone and sent the package on its way in a few hours. it too some time Im guessing to cross the road. the PC tip is a nice one. Ill try it in the iPot.

Fathers intrigued me I called and ended up ordering 2 sets of Hocks the fellow I spoke to will actually pick out big ones ! and a believe him. very polite. ( he was across the street ) and a 6 bacon seasoning sampler. I got the second Hock order as shipping is on par for Food , and it was minimal to get the second set of Hocks. Ill freeze them and That's That !

I also use sink # 2 , on the L of the larger deeper sink ( is has the dispose-all ) as a drip-dry tub It nicely fits a plastic coated metal dish drainer

one example : B '17 : this is two boxes of Bell's , Vintage 2017 it will be used up before the '18's arrive I think I read its rated 97 ++ some ware

I can't show you my spice cabinet because , well ........... but Id like to add something Ive learned in the last year or so Im fortunate to have a chamber vacuum sealer. Oil Pump. I get Bell's seasoning 2 weeks before Thanksgiving as the price drops dramatically and its fresh. but its ground etc etc so I put the ground spice in trimmed vacuum bags and seal I keep them in the freezer and open them when I need them and as the bags a longer on purpose I re- seek that same bag the stuff when I use it is as fresh as it was when I first bought it. now when I get my Penzies spices , the ones I know Im going to use as my main herbs and spices I by larger bags , as it ends up cheaper in the long run and vacuum seal them in the same way. one can take a large vacuum bag and make several long ones for this the length allows no - fuss re-sealing if you have a vacuum bag or chamber vacuum bag system please consider this as its well worth it id you have the vacuum systems already for SV

Its a bit of a shame Benton's doesn't make sausage their bacon and ham are first rate and they are a pleasure to deal with on the phone even just before Christmas during their busiest Rush !
-
@MetsFan5 if you have not had a Country Ham , why not consider a sampler pack ? Edwards makes good products. they are other places that are similar if not more Country-ish consider ; https://www.edwardsvaham.com/product/virginia-smokehouse-sampler/country-hams similar price , but some bacon and sausage to boots many people over look country sausage. It is a remarkable item to try sausage will be more variable from establishment to establishment. Im a big fan of Benton's they make ham and bacon no sausage
