  1. Malahide is a lovely seaside town much closer to the airport than the city centre. She could visit Malahide Castle or take a long walk along the strand overlooking the Irish Sea down towards Portmarnock. Although it's been ages since I've eaten out there, it's an upscale bedroom community and has plenty of dining options for a town its size.
  2. Great answer, FistFullaRoux.
  3. Ah, the Florabama. I missed many a Monday morning class because of our Sunday afternoons there. It has a permanent spot in my list of all-time favorite bars. They even have a website.
  4. Just when you thought you'd seen enough of Rocco... Personally I wasn't curious about what was under Rocco's kilt, but considering his current circumstances, maybe this could help his image Actually some of the other guys at the Dressed to Kilt benefit, especially Huey Morgan, don't look bad at all. 5. I'm tempted to try the Bialetti model that includes an electric heating element. Seems like a great idea for travelling, but the automatic shut-off would make it easier for me on those mornings when I have a 6am crew call - I can get ready for work without having to keep an eye on the stove. Any feedback?

    Sripraphai

Williamsburg Bridge: Stay left, take the BQE (Triboro/LIE direction) to the Roosevelt Ave. exit (toward Broadway). Left onto Roosevelt, bear right onto 39th Ave. and Sripraphai will be on the right.

Is the subway not an option? I stop there on the way back and forth from Long Island, but would choose the train if I wasn't already in the car. Assuming you're coming from Manhattan, which East River crossing will you take?
  8. In Ireland they'll usually make them with Harp and Guinness, but only American tourists order them
  9. I spent several of my teenage years in Manlius.
  10. According to New York Magazine, Amanda Hesser has the job for the time being...
  11. I was going to bring up the Duke of Cambridge, but seeing as it is the only gastro-pub I've ever been to, I assumed my sample size was too small to comment I had a lovely lunch there on my last visit to London and would go back in a second.
  12. I occasionally have lunch at the original location (75th and Third) since it's right near my design school. I'm no vegan but I've had some very good meals there. The new location, Candle 79 (79th and Lex), is promoted as more of a fine dining experience. If I get a chance to try it this week I'll report back. Here's their website.

I just found out I won't be able to make the 26th because of work. Sorry

    Making Cheese

I would *love* to learn how to make cheese.
  15. I tried Young's Double Chocolate Stout a while back. It was nice, but not close to knocking Guinness off the top of my list. The Young's site description:
  16. i actually have a few audio tapes of some sessions. complete and utter nonsense. So what exactly has changed?
  17. I went to Rome just over a year ago. My report from that thread: It's modest but very well-located, and they do have a lift. If I hadn't been there in November I would have tried for one of the rooms that opens onto the roof terrace. Here's the hotel's website.
  18. project, based on your approach, I'd be willing to bet you're getting a different "special sauce" on your Big Mac.
  19. As visitors to Ireland (and some Irish pubs) no doubt quickly learned, the Irish word for woman is "Mná" and the word for man is "Fir". Add some clueless tourists and several pints of Guiness. Hilarity ensues.
  20. 18" is standard, but going a bit higher is a great idea in your case.
  21. Oh. My. God. That's some beautiful work, Neil. Thanks for sharing it with us
  22. I thought they were going for the terrazzo look with that speckled Corian, not granite. Does that make it any more acceptable?
  23. Hmmm... perhaps I can live with my conrete counters hiding the dirt and never looking clean. I enjoy them in every other way except for that, it would be stupid to replace them with something that isn't low-maintenence. (Another consumer hood-winked by a good ad campaign.) I'll post some pictures of my kitchen so y'all can give me some advice about what you think would work, but won't be able to do it until the weekend. Meanwhile, perhaps I should get a copper sink with the money I "saved" by not redoing my countertops? Or, perhaps spend even more money having them make me a whole copper countertop w/ an integral sink? Take a look at the soapstone site fifi posted. If you want to do something interesting and dramatic, you might like their custom soapstone sinks.
