  1. Robert, thank you for the insight and please count me in on a tour. I've heard great things about the exhibit from everyone at the design school I attend. It's also of particular interest to me as I work in kitchen design too :-). Blondie

    La Isla

El Flamboyan was a great and unfancy Ecuadorian (I think) place on First St. I'm told they're now at 10th and Willow. We used to go for the Pernil asado (roast pork) and rice with lentils. I'm hoping to try the new location next week. Yeah, they don't make 'em like Fabian's anymore. Are there any good dive bars left in Hoboken? Blondie
  3. Tony - From my dim college recollections, nothing says Redneck Riviera like the FloraBama Lounge and Package Store on the Florida/Alabama border in Perdido Key. Liquor store in the front, bar in the back with live music (hopefully something better than the endless Allman Bros and Lynyrd Skynyrd covers we suffered through). It's right on the beach. When you head toward Mississippi turn west at Foley and head up Scenic 98 which runs along Mobile Bay. You'll pass through Point Clear (I spent summers there as a kid), home of the Grand Hotel (beautiful grounds, just being renovated). It's a mint julep sort of place, if you know what I mean. Judge Roy Bean's in Daphne used to be the best bar on the Eastern Shore. If you don't stop in Mobile for anything else, if you take one of the downtown exits off I-10 you can get fried oyster sandwiches to take away (or eat in) from Wintzell's Oyster House. You'll be back on the highway in minutes. Blondie

    La Isla

This thread is making me so nostalgic for my time in Hoboken (6 very fun yrs) that I finally had to post. My first apartment was a few doors down from La Isla, then I lived 2 blocks away. I ate there maybe a hundred times, mainly in the luncheonette days. It was visited many a time before Fabian's or BooBoo's. I still haven't had a better Cuban sandwich. I used to love Flamboyan and understand they've moved uptown. Any one been? Blondie
