I have not follow this thread until now. I wish I had earlier. I could have given you some unique suggestions, which may or may not be of any use. There is a place in NYC called Tiro A Segno (77 Macdougal St, New York, NY 10012). It's an upscale private lunch/dinner club, frequented by many top business and political figures. As a magazine article called it, "The privatiest of all private clubs". They are always looking for great pastries vendors with an Italian connection. Many political functions look for interesting pastry suppliers. Two weeks ago I was in one with Bill De Blasio complaining how lousy the pastries were. And he was being kind. But you will be moving to Florida. dcarch

Persimmon as a fruit is not a very strong tasting fruit. unlike apples, bananas, strawberries, oranges, mangoes, pineapples etc., any spice can easily mask it's taste. I would not use any strong flavored spice, and certainly very sparingly used if you must. I do like to buy dehydrated persimmons from an Asian store, chop them up and add to my persimmon recipes, kind of like raisins. dcarch

I have no idea. I don't remember not seeing live crabs in the Korean store near me and other Asian stores. Of course every time I travel to Canada, winter or summer, it's carbs and crabs as often as I can fit in my schedule. dcarch

All Asian stores in Canada and USA have live Dungeness crabs year round. dcarch

Asian stores often sell crabs (and lobsters) with one or two missing limbs at 1/2 price. Wonderful deals. dcarch

You can get King crabs, and snow crabs live in many Chinese restaurants. dcarch

Are you sure you are not talking about blue crabs? Are you sure the last time you tasted was cooked live crabs? Dead crabs taste not too good. dcarch

1. Do not pay final payment to the GC. Ask your expeditor what the GC needs to supply him with to close out the project with the DOB. Or else it will take you years of phone calls. 2. Buildings were not square and level because they were built before laser tools. 3. Get a smoke bomb and turn on your exhaust and see how it pulls air out from your kitchen. Here is my movable (store-able) system: PVC pipes greenhouse film. You can get greenhouse film very cheap from Farmtec remnants. All parts are modular, removable. PVC pipes are 4' and 2' long. The finished cold frames are 4'w x 8'L x 2'h. Takes about 10 minutes each to assemble and 5 minutes to disassemble. The greenhouse film is what holds the cold frame together. The Greenhouse film is UV resistant to 4 years, but for cold frame use, it will last at least three times longer. Storage after disassemble takes very little space. I use bungee cord to anchor the cold frames. We have had very high wind storms, no problems yet. dcarch

There are three kinds of flat roofers. The one who gives you flat roof that leak today, and the other gives you flat roof that leak tomorrow. However if done by a qualified roofer who knows how to build, flat roofs should not leak. But back to kitchen /home renovations. Plan carefully. Due to major hurricanes and fires, significant labor and material shortage is here and will be much worst in the coming months (may be years). dcarch

Tell your architect to check: a) If all pipe hangers and retainers are correctly done, otherwise you will get strange noises inside the walls when pipes expand and contract, in the middle of the night. b) Tell your architect to check if there are pipe runs which may require water hammer arrester. Very beautiful board. Weights a ton. Have your wood shop make a smaller one with matching wood for heavy chopping. Beautiful project. Worth all the aggravations and $$$. dcarch

The biggest problem with copper pipes is if the plumber does not electrically isolate the copper pipes from iron pipes (plumbing Code), causing destructive galvanic corrosion. For the plumber who does isolate the pipes, they sometimes forget to re-ground the electric power wiring to preserve electric ground for your appliances. dcarch Something strange with this post ? It's not a very good idea to do renovation around this time of the year. Religious holidays, Thanksgiving, New year, football, ------------------------ Everyone else wants his/hers renovation done before the holidays ----------------------- Businesses need to use up their budgets near the end of the year, tax write offs ------------------- Snow storms can delay your job ------ There was one recent year in NY area, snow storms every other week. dcarch
