I like mine a little sweet and have made mine based on this recipe several times. http://tvwbb.com/archive/index.php/t-15057.html Keri's Cornbread (1st place, OK State Fair in Tulsa, 2002) 1 1/2 cups plain cornmeal (not cornmeal mix or self-rising) 1/2 cup flour 1 Tablespoon baking powder, preferably Rumford 3/4 teaspoon salt 1/4 cup sugar (to 1/2 cup) 1 1/4 cup milk (fat-free works fine) 1/2 cup vegetable oil (can cut to 1/4 cup if desired) 2 large eggs Preheat oven to 400, placing pans in oven while it heats. I use 2 cast iron stick pans, 1 cast aluminum stick pan, and 1 non-stick scone pan, as seen in the picture at the link below. Blend dry ingredients in large bowl. Blend milk, oil, and eggs, and add to dry ingredients. Blend till all is combined. Remove hot pans from the oven one at a time, and slip a small amount of Crisco or bacon grease (say about 1/4 tsp or so) into each stick form, brushing it to cover all surfaces well. Place back in oven for a few minutes - you want these puppies HOT. Remove pan from oven, set on heat-proof surface, and, using a tablespoon from your silverware drawer, put a generous spoonful of batter into each form. You should have enough batter for 24 cornsticks and 8 thin crusty wedges. Bake at 400 until golden brown on the tops, about 15 minutes for the sticks and about 20 minutes for the wedges. (If you prefer, bake the whole recipe in a 9-inch cast iron skillet for about 30 minutes and just cut into wedges to serve, or just use a 13x9 pan and cut into squares.) To remove from pans, gently ease the tines of a fork under the edges of the cornstick and carefully pry up. If you preheated your pan well and greased it right, it should pop right out. Serve with pinto beans and fried taters, BBQ, or just with a cold glass of sweet milk.

Hi Patrick, you got me thinking and doing a quick internet search brought up tons of wild rice stuffing recipes. I think I'm going to try one in my turkey this year. I'll still have to make a batch of the bread stuffing, which I do in my crock pot, for my DH.

This month, my GF and I got together twice for lunch. Both places are repeats and have become favorites. Early in the month we returned to the TopWater Grill in San Leon. It had been over six months since our last visit. My GF had the Three Reef Pasta - Crab, Shrimp, and Scallops with Pasta tossed with Asparagus, Spinach, Broccoli, and Mushrooms in a Garlic Butter Sauce and Garlic Bread. She said all of it was delicious! And I had the Grilled Shrimp Salad with honey-mustard dressing. And just last week, we returned to the Cheesecake Factory. My GF had a bowl of New England Clam Chowder and The Club with Sweet Potato Fries. I had the Fried Calamari!

Hi all, My GF and I have gotten together twice for lunch this month. A couple of weeks ago we visited an old favorite we hadn't been to since last October, the Flying Dutchman in Kemah. My GF had the Shrimp and Crab Cobb Salad, and I had the best dish I've had in a long time, Mini Crab Cakes on Crawfish Etouffee - topped with Jumbo Lump Crabmeat and Lemon Butter. This week we returned to the Cheesecake Factory (again) and my GF had the Cuban Sandwich with a Green Salad, and I had the (Asian) Chicken and Mushroom Lettuce Wraps.

My GF and I got together for lunch a couple of times in July. Early in the month, we visited the Ichibon Japanese Seafood and Steakhouse restaurant in Kemah. I decided to have two of their appetizers for my meal: Teriyaki Mushrooms Yaki Tori My GF had an appetizer of Crabmeat Puffs, and for her main, their Ebi Tempura Bento Box, which also came with soup and salad. She took a loaded to-go box home! And later in the month, we returned to Farley Girls Cafe in Galveston. My GF chose their Shrimp Po-Boy, which came with French Fries. And I had for their Grilled Fish Tacos.

I had been out of town for a week, so my GF and I got together for lunch last Friday to get caught up. We had liked the freshness of our food at the Cheesecake Factory, plus their menu is so large we had many items we still wanted to try, so that is where we went. My GF opted for the Hamburger on a Toasted Bun with a Green Salad from the SkinnyLicious menu. And I had the Vietnamese Shrimp Summer Rolls from the Appetizer menu.

OMG! This topic just continues to amaze! So many wonderful dishes that inspire! Thank you everyone! Our dinner tonight: Grilled chicken thighs, duck fat fried potatoes, and (from our neighbor) home grown tomatoes.

Thanks Kerry. Tookie's onion rings are always awesome! Your meals are looking very appetizing, too. Yesterday, my GF and I had lunch at the new Cheesecake Factory that opened at the end of 2012, just north of us by Baybrook Mall in Friendswood. Their menu is huge! We made our selections from their SkinnyLicious offerings. My GF ordered the Turkey and Avocado Sandwich, which came with smoked bacon and tomato on a toasted bun and a very nice green salad (instead of the usual fries). I had the Asian Chicken Salad and, since my GF was doing the driving, a glass of Chardonnay. We were both very happy with our choices!

It has been a busy, busy Spring, but my GF and I have managed to lunch together at least once a month since I last posted on this topic. In April, we had lunch at the Stingaree Restaurant in Crystal Beach on Bolivar after visiting one of the bird sanctuaries in High Island. I had grilled shrimp and my GF had fried oysters. In May, we returned to Little Daddy's Gumbo Bar at their League City location where my GF had their clams and I had their Greek salad with fried chicken. Sorry, no photos from either of those lunches. But, just this week, we went back to one of our favorites - Tookie's in Seabrook! Tookie's Squealer Burger was recently featured on the Travel Channel's Burger Land program, and while I opted for a bunless Chili Cheeseburger, my GF decided to change it up and forego her usual #99 and go for the Squealer! And we shared an order of Tookie's awesome Onion Rings:
