A week in Jakarta and Bunaken island, Indonesia

I used to be able to eat spicy food but my husband wouldn't go near it. Now, in my older age, I can't eat anything too spicy, but my husband laps it up. One time when we were in a Vietnamese restaurant we used to frequent, the chef came out and presented him with a Bird's Eye chili. My husband happily ate it up. Go figure. I make a Scotch Bonnet hot sauce that he loves - i can't go near the stuff. I make it in my Thermomix on the balcony. -

This may be a dumb question, but are all sambals spicy? I use sambal oelek so I know that one is, but I'm wondering if they all are? -

Looking forward to reading more about your eating adventures. I always have a bottle of ketjap manis in the cupboard. Good stuff. -
That's for sure!

I did do a search for garlic scapes but I got a message that nothing could be found. I thought that odd. Now that i've checked again, there are a bunch of ideas. I must have searched on "topics" rather than "everywhere". Thanks you.
-
Does anyone use garlic scapes? If yes, how to you use them? I have a bunch and don't know what to do with them. They came from a joint garden we have with my SIL.

I think those monstrosities are disgusting.

After talking to several Amazon people, I still don't know why they won't ship to Canada when they say they will. They even have import charges showing. In the end, when I add it all up and do the exchange rate conversion, buying it no longer makes sense. I'll wait until GE starts selling them here. Not that I'm going to buy one, mind you, but more as an um, curiosity.
-
Did you ever scale the recipe? I'd like to try it but don't want 3 1/2 pints.
-
Except that when I go to place the order I get a message saying they won't ship to my address. Following up with Amazon.
-
What a great deal. Appx. $100 shipping to Canada.

Food Truck in Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland

Jeremy Charles, the chef, co-owned a restaurant in St. John's called Raymond's which was considered one of Canada's top restaurants and placed first in 2011. We had dinner there a couple of times on our several trips there. Fabulous food, service, everything. We always had the tasting menu and if it works, I'll post the links to the meals we had. I'm thinking we should go again for those lobster rolls. Thanks @TdeV for your post, it brought back happy memories. https://forums.egullet.org/topic/153633-a-good-scoff-cod-tongues-toutons-and-tea-on-the-rock-aka-newfoundland/page/6 https://forums.egullet.org/topic/159226-swarvin-in-newfoundland/page/6/ -
Apparently model SD-BMT-1001 is nearly identical to the SD-PT1001. This is a link to that manual. I hope it helps: https://manuall.co.uk/panasonic-sd-pt1001-bread-maker/

@JoNorvelleWalker I know you didn't ask me but here is what Food Network has to say: When to Use Pork Butt Because pork butt has intense fat marbling and a concentration of connective tissue, it can endure hours of cooking. Pork butt is an ideal choice for barbecue pulled pork, but it also lends itself to braising and stewing, which tenderizes the meat and melts the fat. Use pork butt in any recipe where you’re looking for fall-apart-tender meat and a rich, porky flavor, such as pulled pork, carnitas or stew. Pork butt can also be roasted or made into ground pork or sausages. When to Use Pork Shoulder When you want the meat to hold its shape when sliced or chopped, opt for pork shoulder. Pork shoulder can be roasted whole and sliced, like ham, or braised and sliced or chopped before serving. It can also be cut into chunks for stew or chili recipes. Since pork shoulder is sold with the skin on, pork shoulder is also your best bet if you’re looking to obtain a crisp skin (although you can trim the skin if desired). Pork shoulder can also be used to make ground pork. I much prefer the butt.

I understand that. What I was referring to was where it says "Sold and shipped by Sierra LLC". Looking at the dimensions, the generic one is slightly different but that should surprise no one. That way, it isn't an exact duplicate. As @rotuts pointed out, they certainly look the same. I'm still lusting for one, but I'm sure not buying anything from a company I can't find any info one, especially given the $$$ involved.
-
@rotuts I tried finding some info on the company. Couldn't find a thing.

@Duvel My father grew up on a farm in Holland (the Achterhoek) and when we movedved to Canada he brought the old customs with him. Thus, potatoes were stored in a barrel of sand in the basement, which was unheated. They lasted from harvest around late September (I think, I was a little girl at the time) until at least the spring.

I hope you don't but if you do, you'd at least know what to do about it!

I recently bought this one from a thrift store for $2.49. It too is over 800 pages. I hope this store gets more of these.

We enjoyed her as well. Apparently she was found in the shower with pills surrounding her.
