  1. I agree, whipped cream does not belong on apple pie. I love cheddar with apple anything.
  2. That all looks delicious, but the noodles are calling my name.
  3. Before the Euro, they used to separate guilders and centen with an apostrophe in the same way we place a period between dollars and cents. Looks like they are writing their prices the same way as in pre-euro days.
  4. @rotuts That ham and cheese thingy is a Dutch pancake, called a pannenkoek.
  5. Sounds right. I haven't had one in ages. It's time......
  6. I don't recall that we rolled them and filled them but I don't see why not. I'm familiar with the flat variety with things cooked into them, for example bacon or sliced apples which have been sauted first. They are large, and cover a dinner plate. There is no leavening in them, so quite different from what we eat here as pancakes. As kids, we used to spread jam on them or plain sugar. Like the chain out west, there are Pannenkkoek restaurants that serve nothing but pancakes and they have a lot of different toppings.
  7. I'm really excited about this. I haven't been to Amsterdam much, but went to my cousin's wedding which was in Vogel Park. Beautiful. My aunt lived in one of those houses lining the canal. I was born in Zutphen, a town in what the Durch call the Achterhook, (translated as the backhook which I suppose colloquially is the the back end of Holland that hooks into Germany. Have you ever had Dutch pancakkes? NOT dutchbabies, but real dutch pancakes. If you haven't, you should try one. There are restaurants that specialize in them.
  8. Ahhhhhh, the country where I was born. Are you in Amsterdam the whole time?
  9. @Rieke3520 I apologize. I knew you were in Belgium, I don't know why I posted German. I've corrected the post. I'm Dutch, having been born in Holland but my mother never made anything called mustard soup. I'm looking forward to seeing the recipe.

    Jerusalemy kugel

It says " or chopped apricots 70....." was there a range for the apricots?

    Jerusalemy kugel

@shain Thank you! I assume it is the milk listed under the pasta that gets mixed into the caramel? And did you mean for the apple kugel to stop at 70....?
  12. I believe it about the blood thinners, having been on them.
  13. Hi Ria, welcome to the forum. I had a friend, many years ago go, whose name was RIA, although she was Dutch, not Belgian. What is mustard soup? Looking forward to your posts.
  14. Oh my, I'm drooling over here. I have never seen a sweet dish using pasta that appealed to me until now. Any chance you would share the recipe?
  15. My sister does not belong to this forum but if she did, tonight she would say " when sitting at the dining room table, I will never again shake the whipping cream carton without first checking to see if the cap is on it".
  16. Egads! I forgot about the ribs (backs only please) and the bacon!
  17. Pan toasted bun, mustard, dill relish/pickle and onions.
  18. I made a loaf of sandwich bread this week using this yeast. Has anyone else used it? The packet contains a bit of rye flour which is why the bread is darker in colour. Very good bread.
  19. I think pork shoulder or butt are my favorite pork cuts.
  20. StainedShirt. Great name and welcome to the forum.
  21. We had this again last night. There are just the two of us, and we eat the whole thing. I like the idea of adding some lemon juice, I'll do that next time. I also like the broccoli idea, I may try that as well.
  22. What has happened to me is that phyllo goes soft if it is covered while it is still warm.
  23. I made a Korean chicken recipe for dinner last night that called for spinach. Half of it is left so I am making the shrimp dish again. It's delicious. You will love it with or without the spinach.
