  3. You're allergic to chocolate? That would suck.
  4. Hi Craig, I like Gibsons for the "whole package". I find the steaks very good and the atmosphere terrific... I definately rank Gibsons in the top 2 of steakhouses in Chicago... Mortons and Smith & Wollensky (albeit a NY based joynt) are my other favs... My all time favorite steak, however, is in Milwaukee...Coerpers...
  5. You're so right, Quajalote! Celebrity spottings galore on Wednesday night too! http://www.suntimes.com/output/sneed/cst-n...s-sneed281.html
  6. Thx Suvir... All the desserts are to that scale...Allison was again there tonight taking clients to dinner and they ordered a chocolate cake that was beyond belief...she brought some of it home after 4 people had some and its still twice as a big as the largest dessert Ive seen elsewhere...and the quality is very HIGH! When you walk past the street-side windows of Gibsons you can sometimes see a table with one of these desserts and it draws your attention even from the street! They're HUGE!
  7. Im not sure - Im not a huge fan of some of his bottled sauces... But if you had the filet that I had @ Gibsons this week, you may change your mind. But then again you may not... I happen to love a nicely cooked prime filet whether it was done at Charlie Trotters, Gibsons, Ruths Chris or by myself @ home...
  8. Foie Gras...with fava beans and a nice Chianti....
  9. Filet Mignon is steak, maybe not for everyone's taste, but I can assure you it can be a GREAT thing...
  10. I was wondering if anyone was going to spot the hidden Inspector Gadget toys around our table PS...Dont tell Emory that we forgot them there...

  13. Pixel, I thought I didnt like banana Cream pie and I wouldnt have ordered it except my wife begged to order it...and since it was her birthday.... It was one of the best tasting pieces of pie Ive ever had!
  14. I took Allison and our kids to Gibsons Steakhouse for Allisons birthday last Tuesday... Gibsons was best described by a local reviewer: Here are some pics of the night: Arriving @ Gibsons after a 2 block walk from our house... Liam checking out the menu Gigantic Shrimp Cocktail with Cocktail Sauce with Horseradish Your average House Iceberg Salad with a very nice Italian Viniagrette Prime Cuts of Beef and a Lobster Tail like none other... 1996 Chateau St Jean Cinq Cepages to go with our forthcoming Steaks... 12 oz Prime Filet - Medium Rare with Bernaise Mountain of Garlic Mashed Potatoes Allisons Petite Filet Emorys Grilled Cheese sandwich and homemade Fries Discovering he likes Fries better dipped in Kiddie Cocktail Banana Cream Pie that could feed a family of 12 What we did to it... Also it turns out that 15 minutes after we left Michael Douglas and his father Kirk Douglas just popped in for dinner... http://www.suntimes.com/output/sneed/cst-n...s-sneed271.html Here is Gibsons website if interested... http://www.gibsonssteakhouse.com
  15. Ben Pao - you dont see too many Asians here...but yet you dont see to many French people at Ambria either and they have authentic French food. Anyway, maybe its not tried and true authentic Chinese...but its damn good in my opinion with an outstanding decor and fair service...
  16. Cheesecake Factory to pick up chicks...
  17. Do you have a Lettuce card? They are awesome and its easy to rack up points for gift certificates...im bummed that Big Bowl is no longer part of the group though!

    Our kids and cooking

Our son, Emory, loves to help cook and we give him every opportunity we can to help out...He particularly loves to dress up as a "chef" before he helps Dad cook!
  19. I wish to eat fiddleheads even more after reading this thread!
  20. Sorry about calling you Stone...I had just seen his name or responded to one of his posts or something...sorry VARMINT! (I corrected my previous post) I have found that homemade gnocchi with a pesto sauce or cream sauce is always a HUGE hit!
  21. Sounds like fun, Varmint! Can you get some potato gnocchi in there?
  22. Thx for the link FG...Phil Vettel, my bud, is right on re Ben Pao...its very very beautiful inside and I think the food, for the most part, is very high quality and terrific there... I was just there last Thursday for lunch and had the Seven Spice Beef which was amazing as well as General Tso's Chicken which was fair...
  23. Charlie Trotter loves to use Fiddleheads...and we love to eat them when he serves them! Here is a pic I took back in the kitchen of Trotters. At this station you can see the Fiddlehead Ferns in the far left container...
  24. Ben Pao is Chinese. On Lettuce, I disagree with you partly... Althou some of their restaurants probably arent wholly authentic..like Cafe Ba Ba Reeba and Scoozi some are tremendous and very true of the cuisine they represent...tru, Everest, Ambria come to mind immediately....
