  1. I'm relieved to not be alone in my heathenism 🤣 No, not a new recipe, just slashing and that's an Everything Bagel spice mix that is super good on there. I can get Murray's at the Dillion's I go to in the big city-Kroger owns Dillion's. In fact they just redid the inside of the store and the Murray's section is much bigger now. I like the basket that they keep of small odds and ends of cheeses that they sell for cheap The guys either microwave them here at home or they rewrap them in foil and heat them using their little heater in the shooting cabin. The pockets sound good thank you!
  2. Saturdaaaaay!!! I got the breakfast burritos made. I shouldn't have to make any more breakfasts unless they get sick of them lol. I'd love to come up with some new ideas for breakfast for next time. It needs to be portable because they take it with them sometimes. And not sweet. And some kind of meat has to be included. Any ideas? Deviled eggs and pickle roll ups for appetizers. I KNOW I bought green olives. I was going to put slices on top of the eggs. I searched everywhere for them. The Yeti must have taken them. Then, here the guys come with a buck! I'm told he's old. However, the tenderloins don't seem super tough. We will see how the backstraps are..... I think they are going to hang out in the garage, work on the deer and watch football. It's super cold and foggy--dense fog warning until noon--so a good day to stay home. The evening got a bit hectic and in that Scout got left inside while I was in the basement rummaging for some of my tomatoes. I came back upstairs to find pickles....without the cream cheese and roast beef....scattered on the floor. Sigh. Been shown before but here's a little pictorial on gutting a deer--skip down if you don't want to see: When things calmed down I fried wings--I made I think 18--there are only two left lol. Mac and cheese and spinach on the side Tonight is game night --vension tenderloin and I think I have some doves frozen. And I have a bunch of raspberries and blueberries that I need to do something with. Another galette probably and then I'll freeze the rest. My poor new fridge is quite filled up at the moment lol.
  3. I need a looooooot of practice. I also need to read back through the thread here. When I get the crust done like we like, the top is too burned or if the top is good the crust isn’t done enough.
  4. WOW now that is a cool coincidence It's a dark, cold morning here. Weather says a wintry mix is happening but I was just out for morning meeting and didn't detect anything. I think they "plan" on getting a deer today. Sure as I say that and they won't see a thing lol. Our friend had Christmas gifts sent here for us--I always tell him not to but he does anyway. I LOVE what he got me: My new favorite wine glass and tea/coffee cup (sorry for the cuss words.....what can I say, I'm a heathen lol) Baked bread --should have done that before he even got here but PROCRASTINATOR is my middle name Decided on the good 'ol charcuterie board for appetizers Cheeses Blue cheese stuffed olives, my pickled okra, pickled mushrooms, herbed roasted cashews and meats Since the Kitchen Aid bowl was dirty from making bread I decided it would be a good night to do a pizza. Made some pizza dough and let it rise all afternoon. Did a couple bags of that Asian salad on the side. So it was an easy-ish meal. I was too scared to use the new Breville pizzaolio--I'm still having a hit and miss relationship with it--so I had to take all the pots and pans out of the oven. Venison/bacon cheese burger pizza Breakfast this morning was the same as yesterday I have to get moving a lot sooner today. Misfits boxes supposedly coming (they are a day late) and I need to make breakfast burritos for the remaining mornings. And figure out an appetizer. And dinner LOL.
  5. I've already made sprouts once during our hunter's visit but I'm (supposedly) getting some today from Misfits and I might have to do this!
  6. That looks really good. Onion soup mix on top? I use that a LOT.
  7. I wonder if they are really big- huge- gigantic tacos?
  8. This will be the year they get a nice tender one and then by next year I'll forget my good intentions lol Ohhhhhh I am definitely not doing the royal feast treatment. My "nap" today consisted of laying down and being repeatedly reminded by Newman's paw that it's an hour before I usually feed them their wet food and he's making sure I don't forget 🙃
  9. If that deer wasn't tough as chewing gum then that is sad. Was it last year or the year before our friend shot a big old buck and OMG even the tenderloin was tough. I knew as I was cutting the steaks that they would not be to our liking and I was right. I should have tried the SV on them .....when our friend is here I'm usually rushed and not thinking wisely.
  10. Same same. Trust me, Ronnie has plenty of mounts in his man room with nice racks (deer for those gutter minded people like me lol) so we don't need anymore.
  11. I have yet to try--which I know might be a bit surprising but when they are so tough we don't usually waste time making roasts or steaks. It all goes into the grinder for burger.
  12. Our friend leaves Monday the 4th. Season runs from yesterday until the 10th of Dec. I think a doe season opens back up in January for a week. As always I hope they get an older dry doe (that means she can't have any little ones). Our friend always likes the bucks with the huge antlers but boy their meat is tough.
  13. I think your darling would like it too....if not he could just dump some of his BBQ sauce on It's 2:30 and I have no idea what I'm making for dinner. I'm fun like that lol.
  14. Yes, the tenderloins. I'm almost certain I got the time and temp from you. Pork tenderloin was the first thing I ever sous vide . I like this temp. It's very tender. Flavor was excellent--I mean, it's store bought so it's not super porky tasting you know? But it was good.
  15. Foggy this morning. This is looking out of the shooting house. To the right of the tree you can just barely make out the deer feeder.
  16. Good morning! I came in from evening meeting with the cats (everyone was in attendance btw), got ready for bed and crawled in......to a big puddle of Scout pee sigh. I have a liner so it doesn't get to the mattress or anything but Shelby got to "sleep" on the couch last night. Needless to say I'm not feeling super sharp this morning lol. Back to yesterday. The guys went straight from the airport to the field. They saw a few nice ones ...they don't seem to like to shoot anything the first day though. Deer peeking through the trees--I think it's a doe, I can't spot any antlers: Not near as much snow left out there as there is here They took our side by side out so they didn't have to drive the truck clear in to the shooting house. We just got it--I suspect it isn't as shiny and mud free any more lol. Inside the shooting house Meanwhile, I puttered around the house. Did more cleaning (couldn't tell it now, though--why do I bother when it's sloppy and muddy??) and started cooking. The broth from the chicken wing ends that we cut up the day before. I get strangely excited when it gels up like this. I hadn't made a chipped beef cheese ball in a while and I had all the ingredients so that became the appetizer. 5 oz. of chipped beef, diced (reserve about 1/4 c. to roll the outside of the cheese ball in) 5 diced green onions (reserve some to roll the cheese ball in) 1TB Worcestershire sauce 1 c. shredded cheddar cheese 2 bricks of cream cheese (softened) Mix it all up, roll in a ball, roll in the reserve onions and beef. Serve with a sturdy type cracker--I used Wheat Thins Then I got the pork loin out. I didn't realize there were two halves in the bag. Decided that one would be enough for dinner. Earlier I searched around the web looking for new pork loin recipes. Nothing really tripped my trigger so I went back to the tried and true. I seasoned both of the loins up with salt and pepper and pats of butter. One loin I vacuum packed and froze for another day. The other I added fresh sage, rosemary and thyme and then vac packed it. Into the Sous Vide water--2 1/2 hours at 135F. While that was cooking I made an apple galette (apples were going south so I had made some apple pie filling in the IP a few days ago). I was worried the apples might turn into apple sauce after more baking but it worked. I also made a pot of mashed potatoes--added a chunk of cream cheese and butter. Nice and creamy. And a skillet of onions and Brussels sprouts. The chicken broth came in quite handy. I used some to add liquid to the sprouts and the rest I made gravy out of. Pork after searing in a screaming hot cast iron And dinner--this was my plate. Our friend dished his up much prettier lol Dessert was the apple galette and this super cool new product I got at the liquor store--Whip Shots. Vodka mixed with whipped cream (except it's not--I don't even think there is any dairy in it). Comes in peppermint, caramel, vanilla and mocha. Don't even need a glass, just shoot it straight in your mouth lol. OH and this was breakfast this morning--I made it yesterday ...although I could have just gotten up and made it fresh since I was wide awake on the couch lol Wind is switching back to the north in a few hours and rain/snow is coming in. Might be a day where they come home early and just hang out. We'll see. I think I might be getting better at just going with the flow....or maybe not 🤣. I have stuff to make sandwiches or chili in the freezer so if lunch is wanted I do have something quickish I can do. I'm off to make a cup of coffee--rare for me but this morning calls for it.
  17. Deer day is upon us tomorrow! Our hunter friend gets here around noon which is a few hours later than usual. Thank you Delta Airlines sigh. The plan is to pick him up from the airport and then they are going straight to the shootin' house. So, I have tomorrow to get the house looking better-- although he just called to insist that I don't clean. But, I will do a bit. Due to the snow (we still have quite a bit) and Scout and the humans it's very difficult to keep the floors even halfway clean. Christmas decorations are up so I figure that covers a multitude of sins lol. I'll start this round with a story about the pumpkins that we grew and that I posted in the last installment. I'll digress for a second though. When I lived in Colorado and still to this day, there are deer that migrate into town and stay there during winter. Easier to get food etc. They LOVED pumpkins that were leftover from decorating. When we moved here I was floored when I put ours out and the deer completely ignored them. I was lamenting that fact once again this year when it struck me "HEY! The cows are here!!" Some of you know our farmers are wintering their cattle at our place--they keep some, sell some, some go to get processed into meat--burger, steaks etc. that you will find in the grocery store. I asked permission to feed the pumpkins and got told for sure it won't hurt them but we doubt they will eat them. Well. They were a HUGE hit. I had the best time everyday splitting them and watching them eat. A couple of the girls RAN to see me when I was spotted. SO CUTE. Just an example of growing things...feeding them to cattle...circle of life and all that. That was a few days ago and now it's to this: After morning cat meeting I go out and break the ice in their water tub. Can I add rancher to my CV 🤣? We loaded up and went to the big city store today. As per me I have a sketchy plan for meals but who knows lol. Got some wings. The only brand they had were Heritage Farm. I don't know much about them but somewhere in my brain I think I've read derogatory things. But beggars can't be choosers. Picked up a pork loin that I think I'll SV for tomorrows dinner The rest of what I bought.... I always think of @rotutswhen I buy mortadella I'm off to cut up the wings, make some broth out of the ends and figure out dinner. Nights like this I wish for DoorDash lol.

    Dinner 2023

So sweet of you! Most years I have teal coming out of my ears (this year the drought is so bad that the birds just aren't staying). So in the good years come on over lol.

    Dinner 2023

@scamhiWhat a delicious looking meal. That turkey! @Kim ShookGlad to see you're back Been busy getting Christmas decorations up. Got 9-12" of snow which went well with the decor Hot wings, Mac and cheese, slaw Venison cabbage rolls with ribs and crescent rolls Roasted chicken, cheesy broccoli and @Mmmpompspotatoes Ronnie wanted venison burgers with some of the last of the garden tomatoes I've had a craving for hotdogs and kraut More teal were gotten so roasted those Last night fried chicken, Asian bagged salad, mashed potatoes and gravy Dessert was eggnog ice-cream done in the Ninja creami. Had some apples going south so I made apple pie filling and put that on top--good stuff
  20. Those pineapples are so cheap! Looking through the pictures I felt like I was in Dillons--which is the store I go to when I venture to the big city. Google tells me Kroger operates both of them so no wonder they look alike
  21. I'll give it my best shot......my inlaws aren't really food picture takers so it's awkward if you know what I mean.
  22. Happy Thanksgiving to you! I've gotten my French bread all sliced and buttered. Going to heat it up a bit here at home and then hopefully there is room in an oven at the inlaws. If not. Oh well. I'm slowly becoming less worried about little things like that lol. Maybe.
  23. I need a new torch. Mine has a crack and shoots flames out the backside. Kind of a bad deal 🙃 I don't need or want anything huge. Looking for recommendations please
  24. Maybe combine those two plans.....keep whole but reheat in stock covered with foil?
  25. I am so with him. In that very line of thinking --not me but several members of my in-laws family have at least two if not three Thanksgiving dinners to show up at--years ago I suggested doing something like lasagna and salad etc etc. When I got there to help, along with all of the usual turkey and sides was a huge pan of lasagna and a salad. Sigh. That wasn't what I meant lol. Bless her heart.
