That made me laugh out loud My roman catholic Italian M-I-L would have said many novenas if he looked like an Allman Bro. Can't think of anyone famous he resembles, unless some mafia guys in the news lately count for famous. Saw you said you hit the Ark while you were in PPB. I've stopped going since I don't like the musty smell that seems to permeate the entire restaurant. Have they taken care of that? Frankie's is great too. Even better off season.

I was looking for you too Friday nite! Our kids got settled in reasonably early, so my hubby and I were at the sushi bar around 8:00. The Tiki Bar looked pretty dead at that time, guess it was early. Saw a guy sitting at the sushi bar with a woman, for a fleeting moment, thought it might be you (from the pics posted earlier at American Grill) only saw the back of your head in those. But the guy at the bar was drinking some blue concotion in a beer mug, so figured it wasn't you. I headed out to walk back home about 9:00 - was done for the night. How sad am I?? Didn't go out to eat this weekend as our condo was celebrating the "renters" leaving with a party on Sat night. Entertained by a kick ass band that has played at Broadway called Dynamic Duo. They were great. But damn, the boards were packed on Saturday. Everyone came down to see the 10' waves. Too bad you didn't get to Tardi's. One of my favs down that way. We'll be down again in 2 weeks for the seafood festival. Will get there early (10 amish) to beat the crowds. Can't beat life down at the beach. Edited because I'm tired and can't spell

Is it too late to Trademark my screen name?

Not especially all that great-tasting, but my vote is for Social Teas. They remind me of my dad. I smile when I eat them, thinking of him with a cup of instant coffee and his Social Teas. Sigh.

The men in our party felt the same at Restaurant Nicholas. They were probably the only ones in the restaurant when we were dining that did not have jackets. A Sat evening in the spring last year. They got over it very quickly once they sat down and started eating and drinking. Didn't bother them one bit by the end of the evening.

Shorts would be fine. Spikes in PP Bis OK, but Reds is better (on the inlet, next to Shrimp Box which is yucky). It is VERY small, however. You might be ok this weekend. Rockafellas is ok too, as per Rock. I know that you mentioned Used To Be previously. As of two or so years ago it was there, but I don't know about now. I think I remember hearing that the restaurant attached to it on the other side had changed hands, but I don't remember if it included UTB. Damn memory loss - too much alcohol! Capt'n Ed's is ok if you want steak on a stone. You can get a tshirt that says "I got stoned at Captn Eds" See you on the Boards!

PPB area Tardi's - Bay off Arnold. Forget the menu, just listen to the specials - there are plenty. BYOB Spano's on Arnold, off Bay. BYOB (NOT the Spanos at the White Sands - it just doesn't work). Heatwave in BayHead has a new building. Haven't been there yet, but loved the menu at their smaller digs as well as when they rented out White Sands. Mahogony Grill in Manasquan. Enjoy!

what time? i should still be around. i forgot about clark's. that's a good call. i see the Nerds played every thursday at jenks. i love them, and it's a shame they probably stopped this week. Saw the Nerds this past Saturday. I think they are still around though on Thursday for another week or two. Too bad Jenks doesn't have their September schedule up. The bar was packed on Sat- it was raining and Martells is open air, Jenks is covered. Crowd was *young*. Early 20's as opposed to me and my husbands mid-40's. Martells has an older crowd. The Soul Cruisers are there on Thursdays. They get the place going. Dr. Cheeko is there on Sat afternoons - good too. Depending on how soon the kids get settled in to what they are doing - it's the Sushi bar for me around 8:30 - 9:00. Look for the tired couple slumped over the sticky rice

Have a condo down at PPB - and usually hit Martells and Jenks for sake of convenience on the weekends. Crowded on weekends, less so during the week, though. Broadway (on the Boardwalk) has live banks too, but teenagers (including my son) can also venture in to listen as long as they don't saddle up to the bar. Clarke's on Arnold Ave has a nice bar as well as decent restaurant. It won't be as crowded now as it was during July & August. check the schedules for both Martells and Jenks at Martells Jenks Look for me at the sushi bar at Martells Friday evening! Edited because I can't spell

Must have been my carrier. I had better luck with my cell on 9/11 than on "Black Thursday". Shows just how dependent you are on them. I used another commuters phone to call home. My 16 yr old son said "Huh? There's a problem in the City? When will you be home to cook dinner?"

Just a few items are off for NYC. You would needs lots of $$$$ for a cab ride home - if you could have found a cab. Some were gouging for rides back to the boroughs. Also, with the amount of people on foot in the streets in the City, traffic was almost at a standstill. There was disregard by pedestrians for vehicular traffic - unless they could hitch a ride with them. It was almost impossible to get a line out for a cell phone call. Carriers couldn't handle the volume. Same thing happened 9/11. Many people spent their batteries trying to get calls out. I've now ordered emergency kits for everyone in our office - just a few handy things that they could use. Got the 1 Person Fanny Pack. Don't want anything too heavy when you have to walk down from the 41st Floor of an office building. Emergency Kits Talking afterwards with co-workers and co-commuters, we all agreed that although this was not of the magnitude of 9/11, we got the feeling that NYC still does not really have an effective immediate disaster emergency plan in place. Scary.

What do you use it for? Historically, I've always had some around but have never used it for anything. adding my two cents, i use this to marinate (along with soy and black pepper), skirt steak when making fajitas. I have a receipe for a bbq sauce that calls for a dash of W. Sauce along with some coleman's mustard and cayenne pepper. Some other stuff in there too (ketchup, red wine vinegar...). Yum.

That cracked me up. Really, though. How do you consume all that mind-bending stuff and still stand up?? After 4 glasses of wine I start to see double. But that's my 40+ year old body complaining about the abuse I heap upon it.
-
How much wine can you ingest in one day?? Regardless of the food that you took in - I don't think I would be able to function after the pre-dinner libations, never mind the rest of the evening. You are my idol.

Our office, located in Midtown NYC, staffs about 25 people. A group of health conscious employees would meet daily in the late afternoon in our kitchen, located centrally in the office, to whip up a batch of fruit smoothies. They used the fruit that was paid for by the firm (stocked in the beginning of each week for all employees) and added their own smoothie stuff. The sound of the blender plus their whiny voices was enough to drive the rest of us insane. They did, however, offer the us a sample, but unless it had rum in it the rest of the group was not interested. Us non-smoothie drinkers decided one day to steal the blade out of the blender. The smoothie group did not notice it was gone until they tried to whip up a batch. It took them quite some time to figure out what was wrong. A blender war ensued and did not end until most of the smoothie bunch was let go in a downsizing. One lone smoothie drinker was left - our blender now remains silent.

From my grade school days: "Bungalow Bar Tastes Like Tar The More You Eat it The Sicker You Are!" Bill, our Bunaglow Bar Man, would just smile when we sang our song. He would gladly split double ice bars for us on the edge of the garbage bin located on the outside of his truck. 5 cents would get you 1/2 the bar, trouble was deciding on a flavor that you and your friend would share. I miss Bill.

My daughter and her girlfriend tried the Fried Oreos on the Boardwalk in Point Pleasant Beach, NJ, this weekend. They pronounced them "yuck" and then went back for a cotton candy. Some things just shouldn't be fooled with.

I hit the Sunday brunch in Meritage about 2 years ago. It can get crowded this time of the year, but it one of the best down the shore for a brunch. Only about a 10-15 minute ride north of Bayhead. Molly Pitcher has a nice brunch but is way too far from Bayhead - at least a 30 minute ride north. I've heard some good things about Sisters in Spring Lake and that is close by too. Old Mill Inn has been done over, but I think there has been some chef changes during the past year. Still a nice pick atmosphere wise. I'll be down in the Pt. Pleasant Beach area, but dining much more casual - Tiki Bar sushi for me!

Not yet White - but bi-color corn is out at Samahas! Bought one dozen and husband, kids and I polished them off last night. Tomatoes are just so-so. The wet spring has not been kind to NJ crops I think with the exception of asparagus.

another story contradicts the safe nature of the feces, even though the findings were questioned. That topic can probably be discussed till the cows come home (cow dung anyone?) Salerno said health concerns also arose after taking water samples from lakes. "We'd seen elevated levels of fecal coliform and a human pathogen was found in the feces of geese, so it was a great concern," he said. "And we had hundreds of complaints a year from park users saying, 'My kid came home and had goose droppings all over his hands or shoes' and, 'I used to be able to walk here and now I can't."' But Feigelson said the claims of health concerns are unfounded and not based on thorough research. geese story Still a drastic way to deal with the geese. I don't think anyone here is condoning euthanasia, but an effective method of controlling the population has to be addressed.

My Italian mother-in law who has some pretty tableclothes, used to entertain very frequently. Whether it be family or friends, there was always someone at her table eating (usually some sort of pasta). No matter what the tablecloth, there was ALWAYS a heavy sheet of clear plastic on top. So heavy your dish and utensils would stick to it. (I think it was the same plastic that she had covering her couches and chairs). Always made me feel as if she thought we were so messy that we would spill or drop something on her lovely clothes. A few years ago, after she had stopped entertaining and relegated the family function to me, I had asked her about handing down to me some of the ones that she used at the family dinners. "Oh those", she said laughing, "I bought them at the flea market for a couple of bucks." I didn't ask why she felt the need to protect them with the industrial strength plastic - but took them anyway. I use them now at our family holiday dinners - no covering! She always makes a remark when we sit down about everyone being careful not to spill anything on the cloth since I don't have anything covering it.

Sure, that's a good reason to kill all the geese. Especially since their poop is non-toxic and non-disease carrying. Maybe we should emulate Greece, where they are solving their "nuisance" dog and cat problem (They beg for food in the outdoor retaurants) by methodically poisoning them. They will poison 1/4 million animals in preparation for the Olympics so that no one sees the problem during those 2 weeks. As a matter of fact, poisoning dogs and cats in Greece has become "sport"; you can never let a pet dog or cat out of your sight. More on this: Olympic Greek "Sport" Maybe we can eliminate ALL the other species of animals on the earth so we don't have to be "inconvenienced". dude, did i say anywhere that I condoned killing the geese?? Tell me where you came up with the fact that their feces is non-toxic and non-disease carrying. Interesting fact. Good to know the next time I'm cleaning it out of my daughter's soccer cleats. Maybe the towns dealing with this all over their athletic fields can make some extra cash by marketing it as some type of non-toxic and non-disease carrying shit.
