  1. Jason, Entenmann's does sell individually wrapped mini-coffee cakes in their "Little Bites" line. My kids love them - that is if they get to them before my husband and I do. They taste incredibly like the Drake's line. My local Shop-Rite carries them, but not all the time.
  2. These dots are a favorite of my kids down at Point Pleasant Beach (NJ Shore). I must have spent at least $150 at the damn booth this summer. Must admit I did try them. They have a chewy consistency, and I can't say that I like any ice cream that I have to chew. My daughter also found them in a vending machine in a mall in Florida in April of this year. I'd like to see them try to put these dots on a waffle! Nothing beats good ole vanilla ice cream on a belgian waffle while walking the boards!
  3. At first glance I was thinking vulva - and conjuring up all sorts of possible food related scenarios to go with that body part. Of course, I then read further saw your uvula description - that thing in your throat. Whew - I'm relieved. Sorry to hear you miss it, but some things we are just better off without.
  4. More of a drinking related injury rather than eating... while pulling a cork out of a bottle of chablis with a "waiter type" corkscrew, misjudged the exact time that the cork would be leaving the bottle and did not adjust amount of pull used. Hit myself square in the face with the back of my hand, falling backwards and losing half the bottle of wine on me. I now leave the uncorking to others, I do what I do best: drink the wine.
  5. Just spent a long weekend at the beach with families that included lots of teenage boys as well as some pre-teen girls. Glad to be at work today. Menu included for all: Barbequed chicken (extra wings and legs thrown in) Corn on Cob (though not good for those with braces) Mac anc cheese Submarine sandwiches Pizza Hut Baked Ziti (a BIG hit) Mozzarella Sticks Cracked crabs in a spicy fish sauce (this one is best eaten outside) Grilled Salmon in a Teriakyi Sauce (went over surprisingly well) Chicken Fajitas Of Course - Hamburgers, Cheeseburgers, Hot Dogs More soda than I could have ever imagined being consumed in a four day period. They purchased: Funnell cake, fried oreos, french fries and ice cream. I am wiped out emotionally and financially.
  6. Oh boy, you've hit a nerve. Foy's is, by far, one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. While his menu and execution was top notch, the decor and service were the worst I have ever experienced. Minimalist pretty much sums up the decor, which would be ok if it were comfortable. The chairs were the closest thing to folding chairs that he could have found. Service was abominable. The hostess ended up taking our orders after we had been seated for well over 30 minutes, and when our server found out they had a screaming match at our table. He ripped up the order she had taken while he was standing at the kitchen counter (located facing the restaurant) and made us order all over again. We should have left then, but we were gluttons for punishment. After dinner was finally served and then bussed, a busboy came over to wipe our plastic topped table down with a dirty rag. Did we pass on dessert after that? YOU BET!! Went to Hoffmans for ice cream. I'm sure that they were happy to turn our table as there was a line outside waiting to enter. This occured last year, and I have not even passed Foy's at all this summer. Don't know if he is still there, and I frankly don't care. I can't help but think that in some warped way he is in the back of the restaurant laughing at all the patrons that sit in those damn chairs and take that abuse.
  7. I don't expect a Cape May place to be cutting edge..its not the market.
  8. Kim, Sorry to hear about your experience at WI. While mine was not that bad, I can certainly empathize with your feelings of disappointment. Do you think this is a case of a once excellent restaurant having run its course? I don't know if they have had any kitchen or management changes over the past few years, but at this point I think they can certainly stand a shake up. There are just too many other fine dining establishments in that area for them to slack off and rest on their reputation. Did you dine anywhere else during your vacation week? I know in your previous post you talked about K&R. How was that as well as anyplace else you ate?
  9. Kim, Was at the Washington Inn in April of this year. I had been several times before, but not during the past 2 years or so. I have to say that I think some of the shine that I first felt during my prior visits was no longer there. Don't know if it's because I'm older and wiser or if it has really just gone down a notch or two over the past few years. Service was not what I had previously experienced; not that it was bad, but just not as polished. Wine list and food were good, but all in our party (6) came away with the same feeling that it was better in the past. Anyway, for a first timer, you are certainly in for a good experience! Water's Edge and Daniels are other faves in the CM area.
  10. Omigod! I'm from Matawan, and we went to Samaha's religiously in the summer. They've always had the BEST corn. My folks still live there and still go. I'm glad to see it's still around and that their little corner of land hasn't been developed yet.
  11. WHITE CORN! There's a local farm called Samaha's in Matawan between the GSP and Rte 34. Best corn out of all the locals I've tried over the past 20+ years. Lovely delicate little kernels of white corn. Eat them right out of the pot, nothing added. You have to make them the same day they are picked, so time it so you are at the stand as the truck is offloading them into the bins. I made 12 ears last night, and my husband, two kids and I finished off the entire batch.
  12. Not to change the subject too horribly, but as you've brought up Delicious Orchards (Fresh Habaneros! Be still my heart...), have you had a chance to try Christofers Cafe across the street from DO? Very nice little gem...
  13. David, I was about to have an shock attack just thinking that the store part of Delicious Orchards was changing hands! Upon further investigation into their websites http://www.eastmontorchards.com/ http://www.deliciousorchardsnj.com/ I figured out that it was their orchards that moved away from the D.O. name. WHEW!

Rosie, I've had dinner at the Molly Pitcher, but never brunch. What about the brunch didn't you like? Have you had brunch at other places in Monmouth or Ocean Counties?

Lamb - welcome aboard, and thanks for your comments. As time permits, would you share a little more about your trip to the Reef Club? Thanks

Paula, you've visited my favorite restaurant! I have visited J&M's about a dozen or so times over the past two years, and every visit surpasses the previous one. Since the menu is seasonal, there might not be a lot of change from one visit to the next, but there is certainly more than enough choices so that you don't have to repeat (unless you want to) any one dish. The crabcakes are the best I've had, and I love their country apple & pear salad, the fried oysters, and every entree dish I have ever ordered! I have also visited Indigo Moon, but have not had the same experience as you. While the menu is very limited, I have found both food and service to be above par. My only complaint was Chef Adam's use of saffron in a manilla clam dish. It was not disclosed on the menu, and I absolutely HATE saffron. He was very apologetic when my server advised him that I was not touching the dish, and he comped me the appy. Another nearby that you might want to try is Reef Club in Long Branch. I was there for the first time in March 2002, and was very happy with the experience. It's on my go back to list.
