you're british, and the foreign version looks different. and it's probably not snipped either. but i think the pink and non-pink version are the same at the end of the day.

the chart house, in weekhawken, has an enormous view and deck, and horrible food and service.

every day i become more and more convinced that rail paul knows something, if not a lot, about everything.

but do we really think that the guys sweating over the stove/oven/whatever for 7 dollars an hour give a shit if some tosser wants their steak medium, and if they did do they really harbor that much resentment? i like it when people order their steak rare, and then eat only the outside, leaving the cold raw part in the middle on the plate. does the kitchen get offended then as well? i just realized why i've never bothered going to lugers. i don't think i like it's attitude, or its fans' attitudes. i'll stick with the palm and keens. they're nice folk.

my thompson thai book is in the condition of a book that's been around for 237 years. does that count? [at least it's not pink]

i don't know from "authentic," and i don't even know that there is a such a strict designation (of any type of cuisine for that matter), but i certainly got the impression that these were more authentic than most places. "authentic" is just a horrible word. i'd like to use something like "honest," or "pure," or some such. i've always considered los dos rancheros (9th and 38th, NYC) to be an "authentic" experience. but now i see that there's room for both types of places. they prepare food like i prepare food, or at least in a way that i like to think that i prepare food. clean. honest. fresh. i dig this place.

i don't see myself giving them my extra 100 dollars any time soon. fuck 'em.

c'mon dude. we've run out of things to talk about. can't we just go over this simple issue a few more times? i'm beggin ya.
-
this happens quite often in my experience. however, i think we need to get away from using words like "offensive" in this discussion, as it's all very clearly subjective.

ah, but i'm drinking coffee at work nursing a hangover. Dinner tonite alone at Gonzo. now i have to get some lunch.

you poor thing. the worst part is, he's sitting in key west on a computer. i ended up at the el grand mexican in bogota. a few others came along, so i didn't have to eat alone. i have to say i was quite pleased with the place. the "cheap tacos," as i like to refer to them, were outstanding. flavorful meats, onion, cilantro, a bit a cheese. oh man, for 2 bucks, you can't get hurt. now i have a craving for them

if you're referring to paul's example, i'm not sure that's the way the sandwich was ordered. i think we're all in agreeance, to put it in fred durst's words, that if you order a sandwich with x,y,z,a,b,c, and r, then you'll get just that. also, i thought we all determined that fish dishes, at least at the places i eat, are often made with meat based sauces.

Tommy, it's amazing--when eating by myself I usually bring a pen and legal pad with me into the restaurant (usually it's work and not related to the food). 99% of the time, I get service that's excellent bordering on fawning. Either I can really pick restaurants with outstanding service or the staff is thoroughly cowed by the pen and paper. It can't be because they think I'm a critic, because restaurateurs know that critics don't usually go by themselves. Maybe I've just been lucky with good service. It's uncanny. my point exactly.

what is shad roe? what does it taste like? is it served in any NYC restaurants?

oh yes. is it open? wanna join?

would it be silly to bring beer here?

yeah, NVG is "good." i just think they should do better. especially at those tariffs. they're not really pushing the envelope, at all. how about that new fish place in the mall on rt 4? that might be worth a shot. or gaffer's for a burger? good ideas so far. keep 'em coming.

not sure if it's a chain. i don't find it very good, though. although it's a decent choice for tonite. another poster who apparently doesn't want to post sent this in PM: eat at Tapas De Espana in North Bergen or Migdalia's in Bergenfield for a great Cubano or Fink's or El Gran Mexican in Bogota and that is what came to mind
-
where should i eat tonite? anywhere in northern jersey is reasonable. preferable to dine at a bar, as i'm alone. nothing too fancy. table works as well. any cuisine. is lou open at An American Grill? thanks for your help.
