KFC? hell yeah! Kuma looked like a sushi bar when i walked by though. i'll definitely consider it. BYOB?
-
yes please. drop off 4 duck legs at my house, as i'll be very keen on making that duck salad that i've been craving for ever since seeing this month's Gourmet, or whatever it was. pick up 6 if you'll be staying for dinner. and bring wine as i'm not running a frickin' soup kitchen over here. best regards, tommy

is that the place next to KFC?
-
dumpling, those dishes sound interesting, much better than the usual "chinese fare", and worth a shot. anyone else been to Lotus Cafe? kuma is a japanese place, yes?

take your "probablies" and send them over to Whole Foods. thanks. edited to show angry thingie.

someone's sig here is something by Andy Rooney ( think), and reads something like "Vegetarian - that's an old Indian word meaning 'lousy hunter.'". i love it. who is it. please step foward and correct my butchered quote.

i like everything, as odd as that may seem.

i'm *way* late to this. but i think i'm with sandra, sandra l, and beans (their first few for sure). maybe FG too, but i usually skip over his posts.

it really is one of the best things on the planet. in fact, during my first trip to paris, i spent about 3 meals eating it, as i fell in love with it.

dumpling, i've only been there once. it's unfair of me to characterize their service as unfriendly, and i hope i haven't done that. however, it's not near my house (but near friends') and i probably won't return because of that. and i do have sort of a love affair with China 46, so i can't see straight anyways.

i'm getting tired of going to Whole Foods for duck leg confit, just to find that they're not carrying it "this week." i'm getting tired of seeing d'artagnan products at a bunch of places, and not committing to memory where those places are for future reference. i'm pissed at d'artagnan for not having a list of retailers on their website so i don't have to call every shop in my county looking for duck leg confit when i need it, only to be met with a person on the other end of the phone saying "WHHHAAAAA?!????". so, i want to start a list. i admit that i'm using this thread as a personal database, as i'm too lazy to start one in a Word document. sooo... Whole Foods in Ridgewood: has them sometimes. Goffle Poultry in Ridgewood: has them most of the time. i'll add to this list as i discover more. also, any place that offers duck leg confit from producers other than d'artagnan should be added as well, as i don't care who shrink wraps the stuff...i just *want* it when i need it. not finding any fucked up my whole dinner tonite. glad i got that off my chest. ...and if double 0 suggests that i make them myself, i'm going to slap him silly.

oh i agree. but it's apples and oranges. i thought the Peking Duck House was a slightly above-average "chinese place." what stood out in my mind was the horrible nasty service. even if they offered dishes like pepper and salt shrimp and soup dumplings and ruby pork pork, i wouldn't return because of that service. but, they seem to do well, especially with the drive-up window, which is really a brilliant idea.

No question, their turkey club is kickass. And for me, thats a benchmark diner dish. yup. for me too. i should have said that, although i thought it. and a cheeseburger as well, which they do well.
-
had the turkey club this weekend. i think i've confirmed that it's one of the best "diners" in the area. i used to fight the lines at the Tom Sawyer in paramus, but i think i'll just pass that and go right to this place.

Dumpling, is the Peking Duck House of which you speak up by Alpine?

wow, oddly enough i completely remember my first experience. i was about 19 or 20. it was at a place called "A Taste of India" on Bleeker street in NYC. i was underage, so just ordering a beer with this incredibly interesting food added to the excitment. i recall lamb vindaloo. i was blown away by it. i returned several times to that place, usually with dates of some sort. those were some nices memories for me.

i'm with zilla. it's an invaluable part of the research that goes into choosing restaurants, especially when one is going on a trip.

16-18 chestnut is most definitely New York Pizza Factory. i wonder if they're going under. they seem like they do pretty well. the "parking on premises" bit seems way off. i don't think they have any sort of private lot there. and the bit about the full bar is strange. this should be interesting.
-
ah. so that's what you're calling that?
-
oddly, NY Pizza Factory is listed as 16 Chestnut. i don't know of any liquor licenses available in Ridgewood expect that one that's going on the market. however, it hasn't been sold as far as i know. i can't picture what is next to the NY Pizza Factory, but i'll take a swing by and check it out. i'm very curious now.

it's not "fusion." regardless of what zagat's says.

never trust anyone who gives you recipes for "deserts".

more than just blue hill is missing from the list. edit: yeah, what fg said.

served at the Cowgirl Hall of Fame in NYC for those interested in trying this but not actually making it.

potato chip sandwiches. bread, mayo, potato chips. you can gussy them up by eating the crust off all the bread first.
