hollywood and matthewb were clearly separated at birth. clearly. i feel that my title as "king of the meaningless post" is in danger. time to regroup and rethink.

    Roasting Peppers

tommy, you're doing an awful lot of defining today. i've been talking out of my ass much more than usual today. could be the heat. regardless, don't you dare wash that delicious carbon off of your pepper.

    i didn't mean washed. i meant cleaned.

aren't coals primarily carbon? all of the impurities are burned off in the coal making process as far as i understand. although i can see how it might be a bit dirty. given the fact thay they'll be washed, though, i don't know that i'd be too concerned.

not if you're not planning on grilling. i usually put them on the range. doesn't take very long at all. but this is a neat idea. what else can we think of to put on a pile of coal? that picture, btw, is beautiful. i might frame it.
  7. they are the big steak fries, so i kinda expected them to be how they were. however, i spent most of my time looking for the small ones (cooked more) if that's any indication. to me, they were probably how most people would want them. i like 'em done until they're basically just a shell.
  8. quizno's isn't so good. there, i said it. the diner part of hagler's appears to be called "The Diner". that's what the menu says, and that's how they answer the phone. of course, it will always be "Haglers". the burger is quite good. the roll, as jon mentions, is very good too. it's a kaiser roll, which i usually don't appreciate for a burger. however, the all important bun-to-burger ratio was right where it needed to be. i think a cheeseburger, fries, and a soda was 6 bucks.
  9. neil, those are just per diems though, yes? does everyone remember that wall streeter who tipped 10 grand on a huge bill? didn't he get canned after all of the publicity?
  10. this is very cool.

  13. By having policies that clearly define appropriate T&E expenses. right. and then people need to decide to either play within the bounds, or stretch them inappropriately. if you're honest and do the right thing, there's no worry. and, as with life in general, if you're not honest and don't do the right thing, bad things happen to you.
  14. me too. i've always said that they could charge double what they do and i wouldn't think twice about buying them. i'd imagine a lot of others would feel the same.
  15. [having a hard time typing what i'm thinking...]
  16. my pleasure. hell, i even kept the pepper that it came with as it wasn't so bad.
  17. i hope they rethink that sign of theirs. the place is horribly uninviting.
  18. where does one find these elusive 12 dollar beers anway.
  19. i gots this one. works fine for most applications, although if you have a lot to grind, it gets tiring.

jason, that looks fantastic. care to share the process? i made sloppy joes tonite. from Manwich ®. mmmmmm.
  24. pick up a jar of fermented bean paste if they have it (red). it's got a nice kick to it. grill some meat, rub a bit on a piece of lettuce, drop in the meat with a few thinly sliced bits of raw garlic, and you've got yourself a healthy and tasty treat. yummy.
  25. it's got a ramp. but i accept your decision.
