    French Red Wine

The irony of which is that wine has more calories than beer!!!

    Murdering Merlot

Now this is something I've heard before and I don't understand yet... why is it that cab is seen as more 'worth it' ? Is Merlot just incapable of reaching the levels of complexity of a cab sauv? Why is it Merlot is looked down on? As someone who knows very little about wine, <standard caveat> I have a few bottles of Regusci 2000 Merlot and I think its really a fabulous wine. Big fruit bomb. really full and rich. Delightful to drink.
  8. This is a lovely movie, but why people think of it as a food movie is beyond me. I prefer Eat Drink Man Woman over Tortilla Soup. But that could be because I saw EDMW first and thought it was brilliant. So seeing it remade just didn't seem right... Babette's Feast. Fabulous film. Tampopo is probably the one film in that everything, EVERYTHING in it has to do with food. Even in the death scene the guy's last words are about food LOL
  9. salt n pepper prawns from any chinese joint that makes them well. the hong kong style noodles at Sea Garden Ginger & green onion crab at Sea Garden oeufs meurette at Cafe Campagne uh... that's just a few
  10. foie gras
  11. LOL oh no I wouldn't be. how long ago was this?
  12. ya know, I wonder about the 'rummie's stealing the food' thing. one, alcoholics usually aren't interested in food. it wrecks their buzz. two, this is *almost* like you were set up. Thieves are usually after things they can sell, stereos, cds, leather, etc. one helluva story.

    Chimay

LOVE your sig line. Chimay was my first taste of Belgian beer waaaaay back in 1985. My fave is the Reserve.
  14. rose water?! wow... I'd be WAY into that...
  15. rabbit confit, harissa, fresh thyme and smoked mozzarella.
  16. ah I missed the 'dry' part. hmm I seem to remember having a dry oloroso that wasn't nearly as dry as a fino, but perhaps I was inebriated LOL I do like the drys. I bought a bunch of sherries from Spanish Table awhile back and let the BF try one of the finos. He said "there's something WRONG with that!!" he's just not used to how they taste. philistine!
  17. YES!
  18. Uhh, so you're more OK with restaurants that you don't know about that you HAVE eaten at then??.... YEAH!
  19. The Oloroso will be lovely as an after dinner drink. Ohhh Carolyn. Sherries, I LOVE them. way way underrated. And affordable.

    Wine as art

Nice review Jim. Is it still possible to find this?
  21. dammit! I hate it when I hear about a restaurant I don't know about. I especially hate it that I haven't eaten there yet!!
  22. The last paragraph of this article is sorta interesting. Wonder why CNN felt they had to add that "oh BY THE WAY, mad cow disease was found in Washington State!!!"
  23. I feel sorry for anyone who lets the dog & pony show at the Herbfarm keep them away. Jerry Traunfeld is an amazing chef and the food I've had there has ranged from fabulous to an epiphany.
  24. what the hell is the name of that argentinian place?? isn't it in belltown?
  25. Dolce Vita on top of Queen Anne has closed, they are going wholesale only.
