I'll second the recommend for Matt's in the Market. Great place to go alone. Sit at the bar, chat up your neighbor. Or they'll chat you up. Or not, if you are absorbed in a book. I love that place. edit: breakfast out alone: My sentimental favorite is Lowell's. Sit and watch the ferries come and go while reading the morning paper...

oh- I was at Redhook last spring, so not real recently. The food there is adequate if uninspired. None of it is horrible, but its not memorable either. Its a really good stop on the bike trail though

Been to Celtic Bayou, many times. In fact, one of its owners is someone I used to work with hiya Rob Why I didn't think of this, I don't know. I guess I always automatically think "Seattle" when it comes to anything. Yes, CB has really decent Cajun, and the other stuff isn't bad either. Everytime I've been there the food is more than acceptable, its good. And their beers are pretty damn good too. The eastside does have a Rock Bottom, but I've not been to it. Plus there's that brewpub on the redmond/woodinville hiway... (which I went to once in its original incarnation and it stunk, both the food and the beer) And ever since they lost the Rose Hill Ale House *sniff* I guess I haven't paid much attention...

Gross. And this coming from someone who absolutely adores irish car bombs. don't knock it till you've tried it.

LOL why would you ruin Guinness that way?! Actually... its quite good. I wouldn't do it with a vintage champagne... but I like Black Velvets, a lot. but I think stout goes with all kinds of things. I was offered an interesting after dinner drink at one of my fave Seattle restaurants: a glass of Guinness with a float of ruby port on top. Yes, the flavors worked together, quite well.

Well, awhile back I would have told you... Hilltop Alehouse; 74th Street Alehouse;(and some of ya'll have heard me sing this song of bitch & moan before) BUT they've gone downhill in terms of food as of the last year or so. maybe two years or so. They used to have IMO the BEST pub food in town. Recent rumblings I've heard in terms of GOOD: the Jolly Roger (Maritime Pacific's pub), Reading Gaol on 65th and 5th NW, Fred's Rivertown Alehouse in Snohomish (I've been there, its good pub food). Elysian and Tangletown's food is uneven at best. I've had excellent food at the Hale's Brewery (aka House of Hales), but I've heard some not so stellar reports lately. Good luck, post some reviews for us if you go out snacking...

oh my god, can this be found in BC?! I've never even heard of such a thing... but now I need to try it, that's for sure.

I think this wins the truly disgusting award.

Since when is using sex to sell something clever?! Don't get me wrong, I'm not offended, but geez, its hardly original.

I'll agree I love our farmer's markets in Seattle and Portland, BUT, I've never seen terrines like that at ANY OF THEM. Kindly direct me to one where I can!!!

REDMOND... close to a certain large software company... so we can show the unwashed masses of engineers that Top Pot kicks Krispy Kreme ass...

somebody just HAD to bring these up didn't they?! I found some at the PCC the other night (maple stroopwafels ) and had them in my grubby little paws all ready to take up to the checkout when I thought 'what the fuck are you DOING put those BACK'... I'd eat the whole box in my current state

How much do these trainers charge? Depends on whether you are hung over or not.

"....He tried five varieties but cut back to three after experimenting the first few years. His hop crop consisted of the West Coast varieties Cascade, Williamette and Mt. Hood." you WILL be assimilated.

KONA The 100% Kona I brought back from Hawaii is STILL in my memory. Fabulous.

I would add to that list: Cafe Campagne (lovely for weekend brunch but dinner is also quite fabulous) Matt's in the Market Le Pichet Nell's (for a high end special night out) Flying Fish Elliott's for classic NW seafood: raw oysters and dungeness with drawn butter.

Went to Union last night. ya'll will NOT be disappointed. Started off with an amuse of oxtail, sitting on top of a puree of... beets. YES BEETS. (beets work for me, soooo) 2nd: Tuna Tartare with apple and ginger. Lovely dish. Nice balance of flavors, with the crunch from the ginger & apples. 3rd: Creamy Lentil Soup with bacon and braised lamb shank. Yummy dish, interesting to me to have something so hearty come before another fish course... 4th: Seared Fluke with shaved fennel salad and avocado puree. Fabulous dish, but I might have paired it with sliced avocado instead of the puree. the puree struck me as a bit too 'guacomole-ish'. (or would that be guacamolish?) 5th: Muscovy Duck Breast with rosemary scented oyster mushrooms, port reduction. Wow, garnished with some fleur de sel, this was beautiful. I think the shrooms could have been cooked a titch more, but wow, the duck was perfect. 6th: Fourme d'Ambert bleu cheese with toasted pecans, garden greens. Really great stinky cheese, everything on the plate matched wonderfully. This one also went with our wine quite well 7th: Goat Yogurt Sorbet with grapefruit soup. A great palate cleanser. this dish did NOT go with our wine but that's understandable. 8th: Chocolate and Espresso pot de creme. YUM. This, folks, is a screaming deal. The size of the portions are typical tasting menu size, NOT scaled down in any way. We had 3 bottles of wine, the first one being something I can't remember, but it was a french red, heavy heavy tannins, which we decided was a bit rich to cover everything. Next two bottles were 2001 Kiona Cab Sauv. This is a really nice wine for not a lot of money. The waiter raved over it, saying it beat out several bordeaux in a side by side tasting. GO to Union while they are offering this!!!
