I think broader - all the doughy dumpling things. I lived 6 months on my mom's vegetable soup with some chewy ones during a relationship return home meltdown. Just flour, egg, milk my sis says. Oh the world of Austrian Nockerl My Panamanian had me do some part cornmeal based drop dumplings for cows foot soup. Memorable.

Ex gifted me a really nice one from an Alaska trip (he is a knife guy) but as with many things I've lost it after many moves. It HAS to be here somewhere. Now ya got me thinking of hunting.

When mom used to drag me to downtown l.A. to get school uniforms (talk about sadistic fashion) the reward was that lunch. We never had grilled cheese or tomato soup at home. Thanks for the memories.

Like @Smithy I also enjoy learning about the traditions and the food intersections. We are entering deep into that territory as Lent approaches. All mixed up now as immigrants have "re-invented" over the years and marketing for Mardi Gras became so intense. I look forward to all of that in a dedicated topic. My favorite this go around @Duvel with carrots for camels

Out here we don't have weather bunnies - we have Dallas https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dallas_Raines New term to me - I only know the bunny hill at the slopes I did not grow up wit chicken fried steak - don't know that I have had a good one Low on the to be tasted list.

Lovely and you gave me inspiration. I'm looking at these plump baby bella shrooms and have decent frozen spinach so why did I not think "creamed" Tomorrow creamed with coconut milk as the lubricant and tossed with linguine and topped with poached egg. Funny how our minds work.

Where does the time go?!? We always did something for 3 Kings but the day now unfortunately famous for something else. Traditionally last day of Christmas decorations. The King Cake in New Orleans - I'll look at but too sweet for me and the colors are jarring to me. But that is more associated with Mardi Gras. Pics welcome of your festivities and foods

Oh ya just hit on my current pet peeve - Kenji. Serious Eats keeps reposting his narrative about how he got his kid to eat various foods as if he the god invented child rearing. I think he may have even done a book. Self serving ridiculous crap. Ggrrrr They even have a banner on their site about how good cooks know the science. I'll cook you under the table and I do not need to know why I just know what works and I respect taste. Rant over

They used to have a row of their house made pickled things lining the bar. Glad you enjoyed. My favorite is no longer a standard - duck livers wth hot pepper jelly. Carry on
