    Dinner 2021

pork marsala, "baby broccoli", mashed potatoes
  2. That sucks. Is it the ignitor?
  3. Some of it was certainly endogenous. Success and acclaim don't necessarily bring happiness. Orson Wells...Bourdain.

I see your point but, as tedious as it can be, taxonomy isn't trivial. Let down your guard on prawns and before you know it barbarians are at the gates

    Dinner 2021

Pedant that I am, I still distinguish between the two. And I'd contend that they cook differently too and the distinction is useful. In cooking we even distinguish between subtypes of one species all the time. Think of all the tomato and potato cultivars.

    Rosemary gone wild!

Yup. Celery has a lot of nitrates. The juice will make perfectly corned beef. It lets a sausage maker claim "no added nitrates" on what is an obviously cured meat.

    Rosemary gone wild!

Like using celery instead of nitrates to cure meat.
  10. The way pilot lights use gas,a new oven might not be that expensive. When we redid the kitchen and got a pilotless range , we used so much less gas that our propane company actually called to ask what was up.
  11. Surprising PB would give a POS knife to those luminaries.

    Rosemary gone wild!

I saw a big mother rosemary in Charleston that was nicely trimmed as a garden shrub.
  14. Yup, panasonic. Good phone. Of course I peel them. Sometimes I tourne them, because as was established the other day, I'm a classy guy.
  15. Yes. Broccolini is a hybrid of an asian plant and broccoli.
  16. My first load from Misfit. 2 days late because of the storm. A few potatoes are too small to be useful, "baby broccoli" looks like broccolini (which is better). Pretty good stuff.
  17. I'd say its a domed pan bottom. I have a few pans like this where the dome is obvious. Bad pan.

SV pork loin roast with veg and apple mustard sauce
  19. Yeah I have few of his books. Good stuff
  20. 😀Compared to the rest of the internet we are staid. Not that that's a bad thing. eG has been a refuge of civility.
  21. Oh I don't know about that. eGullet runs deep
  22. I never venture down the cereal aisle.

    Latkes - the Topic!

Yes! I was pondering the distinction the other day. Goyishe latkes are more hash brownish.
  24. I went to our local (hideous) supermarket, Acme, yesterday because I didn't feel like driving far to get Schweppe's Diet Tonic. They actually had a big sign at the door reminding us that there's a big storm coming and we should stock-up. Schmucks. I so hate that chain...outdated produce...lousy meats...high prices..they run holiday sales on critical holiday stuff like heavy cream, run out and fail to restock. Their only good thing is Ivin's Spiced Wafers (in season) They had no Schweppe's. But, the pandemic has trained the locals not to overshop for a piddling two day storm. All the staples were plentiful. So there's that.
  25. It has 3 different locking settings as opposed to a ratchet kind of lock which would accommodate more varied diameters (eg carrots). It may be designed for a proprietary machine of some sort. I lean away from a cooking use, although the red handles don't look industrial at all.
