  1. Maybe they can make a Fool's Gold loaf...
  2. Melissa. Finally.Along with Ramsey's salutation to the Blue Team of Chefs and Sous Chefs, paraphrasing here, "You were beaten by a nanny, a Waffle House cook and a pastry chef." ← Not to mention that the nanny had the winning lobster dish, too. What a lame, made-up punishment, too -- go through the trash for recycling. I was glad to see Rock give it back a bit to Ramsey when he was called to the shoot, too.
  3. I thought JAG could fit a gaping hole on the food network, but with Simply Delicioso starting next week, they've got a Latin American food show now.
  4. Third consecutive week of someone crying...
  5. Top Chef http://www.bravotv.com/Casting/index.shtml
  6. CMON! That's a spoiler. Thanks a lot.
  7. Widely available in Atlanta, at least in-town Atlanta. My daughter had one yesterday, in fact. ← I've never seen them...or, I'm just not looking for them. I prefer my calories from food (and better drinks)
  8. I completely missed this -- sorry! It went over great -- my friends were stunned that I had made it. After first, they were a bit tentative, but I assured them that I had eaten plenty and was doing quite well
  9. And Alton said as much...
  10. I used this recipe for lavender creme brulee, and the flavor turned out wonderfully:
  11. It isn't as if I'm asserting it as fact.
  12. No it's not. I've lived in Madrid and Barcelona and traveled the entire country, except for Galicia.
  13. Highest-cholesterol foods: http://www.nutritiondata.com/foods-0000730...0000000000.html Of course, this doesn't account for good vs bad cholesterol, but it's a start.
  14. Most food in the rest of Spain is better than Madrid's
  15. Since there are 15 chefs to begin, we've barely gotten to know quite a few of them. It is "too early to call". Last night, I was still saying "Who is that? Where did she come from?" Notice how the two worst dishes were from foreigners? They were at a severe disadvantage, and I think this should've been taken into account. Too bad they couldn't boot the guy that flaunted his immunity by using lobster.
  16. I couldn't disagree more about Five Guys; it is one of the few places that I'll get a hamburger that is up to par with what I could make. Anyway, my first thought is on the fact that there are SEVENTY-FIVE kids, and that makes things extremely difficult. In fact, I'd say that rules out Five Guys -- they couldn't handle that many people. Hey, Jose Andres' Jaleo is right in Crystal City...they could handle the group. Paella anyone? Crystal City isn't a destination, and empties out on weekends.
  17. Sadly, though, Georgetown isn't accessible by metro. I think Five Guys would be a perfect place to go... I would recommend Old Town Alexandria, but its a loooong walk from the Metro to the river, and there's not too much right around the station.
  18. Very close. Should be an easy walk.
  19. http://www.typicallyspanish.com/news/publi...cle_11146.shtml Spanish chef, Ferrán Adría, to concentrate on cooking The owner of El Bulli says he is to abandon his business interests from next year Top Spanish Chef, and owner of the famous El Bulli Restaurant, Ferrán Adría, has said that he will be giving up all his business interests after 2008 to concentrate solely on cooking. He gave the news during the presentation of two new Spanish books about his famous restaurant. Adría currently owns several companies including a publishing company, and a catering company and is an advisor for NH Hotels. But after all the business success he now says all he really wants is to be happy, and he would be going back to basics.
  20. That's total crap. All of the reality shows do it, to create conflict. On the Apprentice, they had little to no access to media (TV, email, etc), so they had plenty of time to talk, drink, and get in trouble. That said, what does that have to do with this show? They aren't trying to create drama by pitting personalities... IRL, I don't think the winner will live by him/herself, shut off from the world while he or she tries to film shows.
  21. That's probably going to be out of their price range.
  22. Truffle salt.
  23. Cold eggs? Yuck. I'm so glad that there are others that agree -- I thought anything but outright devotion to the egg in all forms would get one ostrasized from here.
  24. Fruit. I'll see it in the store, buy some because I think I should eat more, then forget about it. This especially happens when I buy fruit that isn't ripe yet, like mangoes.
  25. For a good breakfast/brunch/lunch in Mt Pleasant, try Charleston's Bookstore Cafe (formerly downtown). Get one of their "islands", which is mildly fried slices of potatoes with other good stuff on top. Great after a long night The Hungry Detective profiled them, as well.
