  1. Geez - Don't have to give me the entire history of Tasti-D. I was simply stating what I read in an article on Tasti-D, and also by looking around their website. No need to get so defensive of PinkBerry (are you part owner or something?). I was just saying how much better I enjoy Tasti-D, and how gross (and grossly overpriced) PinkBerry is.
  2. actually, there are stages of calories. 11-13, 15-17, 17-19. regardless of the 'sweeteners', in terms of fat content and calories, it seems to be healthier, judging by things i've read. plus, it has a much lower lactose level, which is always good for the digestive system... i think it tastes much better than pinkberry, you get more for your money (yes foodite, i have noticed the 'air space' too), and the people at the tasti-d locations i have visited have been much friendlier and more accomodating than at pinkberry.
  3. I'm the opposite of most people on here, it seems. I can't stand the smell, but I love eating popcorn. (On a side note, I am one of those people who hates cilantro, too...)
  4. look for 'decoding ferran adria', a special that tony filmed with ferran adria at el bulli. it's incredibly well-done and should be available for purchase on amazon.com...
  5. i happen to strongly dislike pinkberry. i've eaten their product twice and both times, even with a fruit add-in, the flavors were extremely bland and the price was insane. i much prefer a cup of tasti-d instead. it's much cheaper, not to mention tastier AND healthier

  8. just a side note (and this doesn't have a whole lot to do with the thread, just the most recent posting)... chazerai doesn't mean 'pig', it means crap/junk/a mess. my mom and grandmother are fluent in yiddish and have taught me many words and phrases. i am jewish and always grew up going out for chinese food on sunday evenings. it's sort of the jewish equivalent of a christian sunday dinner after church. chinese food is a total comfort food for me, and whenever i go home to visit my family, we still make a point of going for chinese food one night while i'm there
  9. I posted this 'dish' in another thread a while back but this thread seemed more appropriate... Around Passover (and all year round, assuming I can find matzah at the store), I bake my chocolate-covered candied matzah. It's always a hit If anyone wants the recipe I'd be happy to send it to you, just send me a PM (don't want to give away ALL my secrets!).

    yes, some cultures do eat embryonic, and newborn, birds. i believe it's called balut - someone please correct me if i'm wrong...
  12. i can't remember if it was mombar or not, but the place was TINY...a little counter and one little table inside with enough room for two people. there was a table or two outside though. and the food was a little 'off' if you ask mainstream america. not saying that i agree, but it was food that a lot of americans might not eat. intestines, brain, stomach, etc...

    I am looking for interesting uses for eggs (in cocktails, as a garnish, non food-related uses...), unusual recipes containing eggs, or people who devote their lives/careers to eggs. These can be any type of eggs - chicken, ostrich, snake, turtle, quail, fish (caviar and roe)...
  18. i - as does the rest of the boston area - have an absolute favorite chocolate chip cookie. it doesn't help you much, since it's in chestnut hill, massachusetts...but it's SO yummy if you're ever in the boston area go to rosie's bakery in chestnut hill. well worth it.

    the basic salty snacks work best for me - cheezits pickles cape cod potato chips (and french onion dip - my weakness!) wheat thins...not too salty but just enough to satisfy the sale cravings i always have chex mix

  24. Tony didn't show a lot of the 'popular' tourist spots or most well-known elements of the PNW because that's not what the show is about. Of course he had to throw one or two in to represent the region and work with the tourism board, but really...he wanted to show things most people don't know about and might be curious about.
