  1. when I went to temple university in ph illy I smoked a tonnnnnn and I was really poor so I ate: nissen (sp?) top ramen chicken flavour with lots of cabbage kimchi thrown in at the end. now, I do it once in a while and instead I eat a huge bag of cheetos with orange or grape soda. eta: Mr. Keng Wang noted that this post is my 420th post

    Dinner! 2007

chufi, whats the korean name for that buckwheat salad dish? Is it bi bim naeng myun? By the way...everything looks great. I had to see your dishes after you posted about them in the elsewhere and asia thread
  3. I never have a problem when I am making kimchi jeon and I use the same recipe as you: equal parts water to equal parts flour. Then again I use a premade mix and I am not sure if it has rice flour or ap flour in it...I think its regular flour. Also when you are making kimchi jeon, be sure to throw in some kimchi juice. That will loosen it up and maybe make it a little to your liking. Also make sure you are using ice water, because it helps to crisp up the batter
  4. the only place with snow like that is colorado, right?
  5. fage with some honey sounds good right about now...and maybe some rolos dipped in fleur de sel
  6. I have been trying to watch what I eat lately and well it's really hard. I eat a lot of rice and apparently one serving of rice is only 1/2 a cup. I don't know about you all, but that just isn't enough rice for me. 1 cup yes ...but half a cup? regarding the 1/2 cup of ice cream, thats just stupid. I can easily eat a pint of ice cream in one sitting no problem. I can't even begin to think how much fat and calories is in one pint of english toffee hagen daaz
  7. I like them plain and I love to chew them instead of swallowing them straight like alot of people do
  8. when my boyfriend burns his mouth, which happens alot, he sprinkles sugar on his tongue. he says it works, but I have never tried it for myself
  9. seollangtang sounds like a great idea. I always make the soup with the oxtails, but I forget what thats called. I think its about time to make another batch of that.
  10. sam = 3 and o = 5 so I think it has 5 layers of fat or meat in it instead of 3. I believe it is a bit more expensive then sam gyeop sal. I have never seen it, but i see it at the store all the time.
  11. haven't read the entire post yet, but I just want to say that its great to see a fellow maryland posting. Yes I am from maryland (not massachusetts) and I miss it terribly. I also visit frederick once in a great while, because it is close to where my grandparents live - hagerstown. I'm sure you have heard of it. How about odenton? That's where my parents live and it is right next to Fort Meade.
  12. unfortunately I don't know if you can just slice it and eat it. I'm sure there are some parts that are not usually eaten? If it was me, I would just eat the body on the "outside" and get rid of the stuff on the inside. I mean it's a sea squirt, it's not going to have any organs or anything like that...really nothing too complicated. then again, I don't want you to listen to me and then get sick. remember, I am just guessing here...I have no clue what I am talking about this is what my mom and sis ate: I'll try to find a recipe for the gochujang based dipping sauce eta: nope, I have never seen or heard of that in my entire life! sorry. do you need a recipe for it or something?
  13. thats frightening yet cute, but I like my cell phone charm better. mine is hello kitty sitting in a bushel of asparagus
  14. that looks absolutely delicious! do you have a recipe for that dish? I don't think I have ever asked for a recipe on egullet, but that looks scrumptious. I am in the mood for something with fish sauce and pork rinds. omg
  15. oh my god that looks so good. I guess I should've asked this, but christian are you part korean? If not I think you are an unofficial korean by now with all of your delicious korean meals. I just had a great home made ja jang myeon at a restaurant in the balt/dc area a few weeks ago. They used hand pulled noodles and home made sauce and it was excellent. I had it with seafood though and it was called something else...I forget. It had squid, octopus, and some sea cucumbers. Very very delicious I like your garnish by the way, reminds me of ja jang myeon delivery style in korea. Now if only it came in that green bowl with the white spots on it. also, what are you making next?
  16. you know that raw crab is my favorite!!!!! I think that jelly is made from acorns not mulberrys. I like it better when it is brownish tan in colour though because it looks more appetizing. Do you cook the kimchi on the grill after you cook the sam gyeop sal? My family does that and it tastes really awesome, but its kinda country style and might be looked down on. so how much did that meal cost for your whole family? any soju? also, have you ever had o gyeop sal?
  17. oh you eat those raw and they are usually sliced and dipped into that gochujang based sauce mixed with vinegar and sugar. I forgot the name of the sauce, but it is usually served with anything raw (fish, squid, octopus, etc). my mom and sister used to eat those things when we lived in korea, but I wouldn't touch them. Those things scared the bajeebus out of me. Now however I would definitely give them a try.
  18. If I'm hungover and near good korean food I will eat: spicy pork neck soup with potatos, soon dae guk - spicy blood sausage soup or pretty much anything that is incredibly spicy with pork products thrown in if I am REALLY hungover and too lazy to make food or go out to eat, I will just run down the street to burger king grab a double whopper value meal with a side of chicken fries. Yes, I can eat all of this in one sitting. Papa Gino's (new england pizza chain) large pepperoni pizza with their mozarella sticks and a liter of mountain dew will also do the trick. why is it that when one is hungover the only thing one craves is really spicy and/or greasy food with lots of carbs?
  19. as I was watching the newest episode with my boyfriend I thought I caught a glimpse of ling. I wasn't sure it was her and then when I saw hlodesign it sealed the deal. me: hey, dan (boyfriend) I think that girl is on egullet! dan: wow, you are such a dork he wasn't impressed with all the food tattoos either. He has full sleeves of mostly sailor jerry flash and well he is very snobby. I thought the morton salt girl was very cute, but it definitely needed the blue background and the yellow umbrella
  20. I add any combo of the following: that pink japanese fish cake - I forget the name... or any other fish cake korean sliced ddeok raw egg placed as a garnish after cooking the ramen or cooked egg swirled in sliced kimchi + it's delicious juices sliced green onion spam or hotdogs (don't knock it until you try it) sliced korean nori sometimes I also throw in some barely cooked bok choy for that nice added crunch or any other leafy veggie that is available
  21. yesterday was new year's day, so of course I had rice cake soup. I am at my parent's for the holidays and my mom made some rice cake soup for the family with some homemade kimchi mandoo thrown in. very delicious other homemade dishes/foods I have had here are: yuk gae jang (this is great for hangovers) bibimbap with leftover namul and kalbi korean sashimi homemade daeng jang chigae
  22. ethiopian food is so delicious. I have only had ethiopian food once in west philly (when I used to go to college there back in the day) and it was divine. what did you eat? vegetarian or non vegetarian? eta: whoops, don't answer
  23. More's the tragedy, they were connected only by landlord. Z, when it was open, was a lovely place featuring Italian wines (although they had some nice French and US stuff too). The kitchen was small but they were a member of slow food and sourced locally whenever possible. Even made their own Limoncello. It was a great place and it just NEVER took off (again, I'm convinced everyone thought the same as you). Right before I moved back overseas, the owners were selling out. Don't know if it remains or is as good but the original was outstanding. *sigh* edited to correct stupid spelling error. there may be others... ← made their own lemoncello? classyyyyyy,.....nice. I should've went their when it was open. I always commented about it when I walked by it : "what the heck is a classy joint like this, doing next to a shithole like the abbey?" how was the food, btw? oh and this thread reminds me of a great misfits song. whooaaaa hell night eta: was it that great? considering danzig was no longer in the band
  24. I say make seollangtang. Let's see how white you can get it!
  25. so what's in that pinnochio pizza? looks yummy, its only 3:44 am and yes I am hungry. can't wait to see how you made your bulgogi and what you ate with it. if you didn't consume kimchi and rice with the bulgogi, I will drive to seattle and personally beat you up
