  1. I have to admit that on my recent trip to Napa Valley, San Francisco, and Monterey Bay I took photos of the food I and my friends had (did it as quickly and discreetly as I could). My eating experiences are some of my most memorable and I wish to share them with my friends and family. I ate at Auberge De Soleil, Bouchon, and Flour and Water to name a few. WOW! I don't expect to eat that well again for a long time! Will longingly look at those photos for years to come. And I am not a food blogger!
  2. Bring on the recommendations!!!! All times of day, all price ranges. Would like to eat well, see cool places! I am travelling with 3 other people, all interested in good food, wine, good times. None of us have been there before. Only one reservation made so far, to The Girl and the Fig restaurant in Sonoma the evening we arrive, 8/1/12. TIA, Donna
  3. I can't tell you how many times that has happened to me!!! It has happened when I bought a bag of lemons, it has happened when I bought several single lemons.....coming into my kitchen and just finding one lemon covered with mold. I just did the best I could to dispose of the offending fruit...knowing it was spreading mold everywhere, then wiping down everything in the vicinity with the antibacterial wipes. No one has gotten sick and no other untoward effects that I know of. I'd say....you did what you needed to and don't worry too much!
  4. I have tried to use cloth towels more frequently....even bought many of those microfiber towels (though I have no idea what has happened to most of those). Keep returning to my Bounty paper towels! I don't like the select-a-size ones for the reasons mentioned by others.

    Dinner! 2012

Lovely spread, Kim. Wish someone would prepare that for me sometime!!!!
  6. Yes, Anna. It is induction and, in fact, the moka pot is aluminum. I use the interface disk just for coffe making. Tonight, as I told you, we had sweetbreads. I soaked them 3 hours in salted water, quickly blanched and cooked in salted butter. I served them on a bed of peas and favas. Now, it's time for me to go to sleep. Not sure what I'm going to do tomorrow. That looks SOOOOO good. I had sweetbreads for the first time a few months ago at a local restaurant and found them quite enjoyable. Again..I would not even know where to source them or how to prepare them, though.

    Dinner! 2012

Morcilla is not something I think I can source locally but that sure does look delicious. What do you think might make a good substitution?
  8. Thank you for blogging. Looks like it was a nice, relaxing week. Hope you have a great homecoming with your family!

Kim, the carrot cake bars are not listed in the recipes on your web page. They look delicious and my husband loves carrot cake. Can you share?

    Easter Menus

There are just 3 of us. Planning marinated and grilled lamb chops for my MIL and myself and rib eye steak for my husband, roasted asparagus, roasted beats, a white bean gratin, and a dessert of fried pound cake with vanilla ice cream and a fresh strawberry sauce.

    Dinner! 2012

    Drooling here, too!!!
  18. I'm also in the butter camp! Beyond that....I always have half and half, eggs, bacon on hand. Prefer Hellman's mayo but have tried Duke's without being disappointed, however I must have one or the other in the fridge at all times. Will not use any other ketchup but Heinz (I grew up near Pittsburgh)!
  19. For New Year's Eve dinner, I made two recipes from a new cookbook that I received for Christmas. It was Cook's Illustrated "MENUS". I made braised lamb shanks that were quite nice and enjoyed by all BUT the recipe that really rocked was a White Bean Gratin. Onions were carmelized with 1/2 tsp of brown sugar, lots of choped garlic and a pinch of red pepper flakes then added to that, then about 1/2 cup white wine that was reduced until almost completely evaporated. The onion mixture was spread into the bottom of a 9 x 13 inch baking dish. In the same pot (now empty) goes 4 cans of rinsed canellini beans, 1 cup of chicken stock and 1 tsp fresh minced rosemary. This is simmered for about a minute, a cup of grated parmesan cheese then mixed in and this was spread on top of the onion mixture (it can be seasoned with s and p at this point before spread but I forgot. Didn't miss it). Grated gruyere then put on the top of it and the whole thing is baked until golden. Sooo good. Even folks who said that they don't like beans had seconds!!! Now...looking forward to RECIPES THAT ROCK 2012!!! Happy New Year to all!
  20. Thank you!!! I enjoyed this week with you.
  21. Finally made the baked kale ships that are all over the cooking blogs....I may be the last one to have tried them!!!!! WOW! So quick and easy for such a crunchy low carb snack!!! I think my fridge will soon be well stocked with kale! Who would have thought......................
