  1. Sweet potato fries, which were actually crisp. Buffalo chicken wrap was pretty good, the fries were da bomb.
  2. have you tried: Spice It Up - spiceituponline.com 229 Glenridge Ave, Montclair - (973) 744-3344
  3. Texturally, the ones I've had were very dry and cookie-like, not dense like biscotti because of the eggs. Haven't had them for many years, since as a young'un I decided they weren't of much interest.
  4. I like Pyrex storage containers (you can find sets on sale pretty often on Amazon for 50% off). They have square-ish or round shapes. I do stack them in the pantry, maybe 2-3 high (smaller ones). The lids are plastic, but do seal tightly. The one thing I've noticed is that food keeps longer in glass than plastic.
  5. What kinds of toppings on your pizzas? I like to do things that aren't too similar or complement the other flavors. Instead of green salad, what about a salad of shaved fennel with olives, oranges, parsley w/olive oil vinagrette? I like having something acidic, and this is good to prepare in advance.

    Leftovers

I enjoy trying to figure out how to use leftovers to create something else entirely. Eating last night's dinner for lunch isn't always appealing. Example: leftover veggies and/or meat into pasta dish. By putting it into a seasoned tomato sauce, you don't really remember what it was in it's prior life. Works for highly seasoned dishes like curry or chili, too. Authentic, no, but serves a purpose.

    Rosh Hashana

Lior, I have a question about this recipe, since it's unfamiliar to me but I find it intriguing...it looks like this is a sweet for dessert, what kind of texture is it? Should it set overnight in the refrigerator?
  8. Yes, I bought a can of Nestle this week (in an Asian supermarket, actually) and my initial impression was that the flavor seemed a bit "thin". Unfortunately, my husband discovered it in the fridge and it disappeared before I could do any further studies Although I did enjoy dipping Snyder's Homestyle Dark pretzels in it...
  9. I really enjoy the show...but it is about traveling around to experience the culture of food. I found the bit with Nugent and rifles a bit self-indulgent, since that was really just about blowing up things. Bowhunting as it relates to procuring your own food is one thing, shooting a rifle into a hanging bottle of explosives is just about blowing stuff up. Yes, there was a part of that segment about food, but the theme of giving Tony automatic weapons for amusement seems to be recurring a bit more than I'd like. There was so much more interesting stuff he could have explored in the SW show and he just skipped it.
  10. If put into a glass/pyrex container w/lid in fridge, how long does it last?
  11. While you're brewing, why not try expresso, too? maybe some cocoa powder mixed in?
  12. OK, today I bought heirloom tomatoes at an Asian supermarket for 99 cents/lb...they are on sale at Whole Foods for $2.99/lb
  13. Having been stuck in boardrooms/training for whole days at times...I vote for lighter fare. Really, if you have hot food, who doesn't want to take a nap about an hour afterwards? If you do want to have something warm, a nice kettle of soup goes over well. A selection of interesting sandwiches (not the usual deli stuff), side salads, fruit, cookies. The hot food that worked best for a recent meeting was a mexican theme, where you could make your own soft tacos or make a salad (chili-seasoned warm chicken and beef; seasoned rice; shredded cheese; guac/sour cream/salsa, etc). You might want to skip the beans. It being a closed room and all...
  14. Local chain supermarket has racks (attractively located back by the restrooms ) with discontinued/dented clearance items. Snagged some great Asian stuff (5 spice powder, thai curry simmer sauce, $1.50-1.99) and raspberry chipotle dipping sauce (will be great for grilled chicken breasts $1.99). Couple of these things retailed for $3.99 (and I saw them at another market). So got about $10 of goodies for about $5. Since I only cook for 2, that's enough to make me happy.
  15. Took Mom to Toppers Spa for a birthday treat, and snuck out while she was getting her pedicure. Got blackberry and thai coconut gelatos. Tried the dark bitter chocolate (thought about that one, but didn't see something I wanted to mix with it...). Guy who worked there was telling someone the fleur de sel mixed with (one of) the chocolates was like eating a chocolate covered pretzel. Glad I live 45 minutes away, it's just too good.
  16. Agree with 6, I went to a similar event last year and that was the number. Also suggest that the last one should be not too sweet and not too heavy (if you are serving them in succession) since we were on sugar overload at the end.

    M & M Premiums

Saw them first at a local drugstore, and I did think they were individually wrapped. Saw them again yesterday at Target...they don't seem to be selling well. I agree that they aren't doing a great job of marketing them. Should be in the "close out" stores (Odd Lots) soon.
  18. Summertime salad: fresh white corn cut off the cob, mixed with diced tomato, diced avocado if you have it. Little chopped up sweet red onion or scallion, drizzle olive oil, splash of vinegar. S&P. Fresh herbs if you've got them.
  19. The other thing which is kind of nice to smooth out the texture is to mix a little sour cream or yogurt with the mayo. You might still want to thin it out with a little cider vinegar and wisk it until it is more like creamy salad dressing texture.
  20. Tried the caramelized onion flavor over the weekend, it wasn't overly sweet. Would be nice as a sandwich ingredient/spread.
  21. What about chopped BBQ (brisket or pork) - served with vinegar-based or mustardy BBQ sauce to dip?
  22. Definitely New York, I can see the license plates. Plus the street sign on the left says Washington (something).
  23. Local supermarket (chain) had no shortage of rice when I went on Saturday. All of the regular, specialty, etc were fully stocked. In fact, some varieties were on sale. Why can't I get over the suspicion that some of the "hysteria" over rice is self-propagating?
  24. Lundberg's rice chips (seaweed flavor)...I think I stopped myself once from not eating the whole bag...but maybe I just looked in, saw a few small pieces left and tossed the rest out of self-loathing. Doritos nacho cheese flavor Tortilla chips ditto on the pistachios I think I discovered that if I eat more than 3 chips, I'm a goner. Somehow only eating a couple doesn't activate the "lizard brain" (to quote Miz Ducky).
  25. Second for sinkers. I like the slightly chewy texture, sort of gnocchi-like.
