Boy, it would be nice to know what the various options would get you on any given flight. I prefer vegetarian, but I don't eat eggs, so that meal option is often a problem for me. Being confined to my seat and surrounded by people having eggs (if a breakfast flight) is my own personal hell. I would welcome the smell of curry.

You know what...when I was in college one of the best meals was hot ham and cheese on a toasted kaiser roll. It was (I'm sure) processed cheese, it got all kind of gooey. I can see ham working with fondue!

Bob’s Red Mill has free shipping on all orders today (US only), code is FREESHIP.

I work with a couple of hunters. One of them bow hunts pretty much exclusively and doesn’t need to buy meat most of the year since he has enough venison in the freezer. One of the other guys is Native American and always uses the word “harvest” for his hunting results. I can only bring myself to fish, but have no issue with people hunting warm blooded animals for food when you respect the process.

I bought myself some new half sheet pans, Amazon had a deal on Viking, a two pack. I think I want a quarter sheet pan now. And I need a new SS wire rack to go in the pans. Maybe a new instant read thermometer. Not very exciting.

@scubadoo97, I have a couple of recipes I found online and will probably do an amalgam of them. The one constant is it looks like a 3 day cure in the fridge. Will update when I do it.

I've decided I'm going to make some Gravlax and share with 2 people at work that I know will enjoy it. One of them is a woman whose husband has a major aversion to fish so she never gets to eat it at home. The other is the guy who has a big garden and gifts me veggies in the summer. I've also got a small jar of cajeta that I know I won't want to continue eating off a spoon, so I'm thinking a thumbprint kind of cookie.

Aha, flaw in the system. You request small package of chicken thighs (let's say 1 lbs). All they have is a 2 lb pack...so they say "out of stock" and the system isn't programmed with the logic to search different package sizes as alternates.
-
Sheesh, being out of stock on chicken doesn’t sound plausible, assuming garden variety chicken and not some exotic type. I go to a different WF location from the one you are ordering from (probably 1-2x a week) and they are certainly not out of stock on proteins. I was in fact admiring some of the fresh fish yesterday, both whole and fillet. Have you tried calling the Princeton store to complain?

Sheet pan (part of it) dinner. Honey mustard mixture on some chicken breasts, Baked at 400 on foil lined sheet pan, midway thru added a couple of halves of twice baked potatoes that were leftover from Thanksgiving (they defrost/reheat well). Potato shells crisped up a bit, nice. Microwaved froz peas for the veg. Sometimes I need a dinner with 10 minute prep.

We keep a box of Grape Nuts in the closet for adding to yogurt. They are good as a non-sweet alternate to granola for that purpose. Usually a box of some kind of Cheerios (multigrain most often), since DH is diabetic, he can't do too much harm if he grabs a handful. I also like Kashi honey almond clusters. We did have sugar cereals at home when I was a kid, along with "healthier" ones like Special K and Raisin Bran. I actually think those strawberry Rice Krispies would be kind of interesting to use for Krispie Treats...

I like “drunken goat” cheese which is semi soft, they bathe the exterior rind in red wine while ageing.

Visited a local Aldi today and they had a sign that they were now offering delivery via Instacart.

I like jello when its made with just a little less water so it becomes kind of chewy. As a kid I liked squishing it thru my teeth, and red was the preferred flavor. Whatever red was supposed to be in the “fruit” spectrum. When I was in my early 20’s and living by myself, my parents came to my apartment when I had the flu to bring me prepared jello. Very nostalgic.

Leftover apple pie (reheated a bit). And ice cream (vanilla caramel).

Doing Thanksgiving prep, today was the tomato bisque. One bowlful which didn’t fit in the storage container.

@suzilightning, I haven't had that in years. I was introduced to it by a Memphis native many years ago and I know if I made it today even in all of its trashiness (in the best way possible) I'd eat WAY too much. Of course I could say I'm eating it in honor of my friend Randall and enjoy the memories.

Minnesota and likely Wisconsin. When my husband worked for Land O Lakes many years ago he was horrified when served pie with cheese the first time. All opportunities to support the dairy farmers were promoted. I like cheese with a fresh apple, so the idea of cheese worked into the crust does sound tasty.

Ack, to add to the stress of food prep, I'm sick. I had to write out a list for hubby to get some items since I planned to start some things this weekend and freeze to make the actual day run a bit smoother. I am making a tomato bisque and mushroom/shallot/herb dressing (I've made the dressing before and I know it reheats well). I also planned to make turkey gravy with purchased extra wings (looked for them on Monday and didn't see any, getting nervous). Balsamic/honey roasted carrots. Will be interesting to see what he comes home with (despite my detailed list organized by location in the store), I am really trying to avoid the supermarket this weekend. My sister is bringing a spinach-based veg side dish and Mom is making twice-baked potatoes. Apple pie will be purchased from a local farm that makes good ones. Ice cream. Perhaps Ghiradelli brownies (box of mix at the ready in the pantry!).

I usually have around 6 yogurts in the fridge at any time and I will eat them based on expiration date. Since DH will only take what is on the front edge of the shelf. And his yogurt consumption ebbs and flows.

Roasted seaweed snacks are pretty common in our local supermarkets, they show up the in the Natural/Health food aisle, or the Asian food aisle. I like them, although some of the brands are quite greasy. Several years ago I was treated to a sushi lunch by my boss in NYC and we got a seaweed sampler platter as an appetizer/salad course, it's interesting to try the different textures. Hijiki is probably the one we see most often in our local Japanese restaurants (cold salad).

As I was the one who originally posted, I will update to say that I will not be having a guest with gluten issues, so I no longer need suggestions, but thanks to all.

as the Chipotle thread looked like it was starting to veer to "non-Mex" discussion, I thought I'd open up a new thread. There have been a bunch of quick serve/fast casual chains (of varying sizes) opening near my home an office. There is a local burrito chain Bubbakoo's, which started in NJ in 2008; it seems to be a "design your own burrito/bowl/taco salad, etc." Haven't been yet, just opened about a month ago near my house. The Simple Greek is (as the name alludes to) Greek style, start with a bowl or pita, add your protein, etc. Haven't been there yet, but I do go to Zoe's, which has a lot of vegetarian options and is marketed as "Fresh Med". There are places specializing in Poke Bowls near my house and near my office, which also offer some "cooked" food options for those not sure about raw fish. The QC varies day to day in a lot of these places, but as someone who seeks "healthier" and vegetarian options, it is nice that there ARE more options to choose from.

Not a bad idea, I can just separate a small amount of the stock. Will keep it in mind if needed.

Of the "fast casual" type Tex-Mex chains, I liked Baja Fresh the best. Unfortunately they closed the one near my office a couple of years ago. They have a fresh salsa bar with 6 types of salsa, usually hot, med, mild (green?), pico, and 2 seasonals (IIRC) plus fresh chopped cilantro and some other stuff.
