More Larburgers last night and some left over larbpatties for lunch today. I made a little sauce for it with sour cream, lime, chili sauce, and tamarind. Ben

Here are my thoughts on Todai from a little more than a year ago. It was a laughable yet seriously depressing/nauesating experience. Todai Gahhhh!!!

I think I missed this discussion back in the day. Here are my thoughts on Todai that I posted on Chowhound back then.

Jesus...the end is near. Todai is absoutely horrible. It makes me want to lash out violently.

I think that most of the flavored rums are just shy in alcohol content of straight up regular whitebread rum. Perhaps one percentage or so. What kind of rum do you normally drink Klink? Most rum, however, that you would find in an old school distillery will strip your teeth. Ben

I made larburgers last night too. Fan-tastic!

I bet you would have good results with a longer, shallow plug than a short deep one. That way the booze would distribute more evenly. But perhaps I am crazy. Ben

I think Klink is eating all of them at Mashiko's.

Sadly it is cherry season here and I can't partake unless I want some itchy mouth. Ben

Great thanks for the report, I will have to check out some of those places. Katie and I have decided on Manzanita (I know the town a bit and it is in a good location). Does anybody know of good tide pools nearby? Ben

I actually have my vacation planned this year for that week. I don't, however, think that the change in plans would go over too well with the little lady... Also, fundage is an issue too. Alms for the poor???!

The inside of Thai Tom's is a lunch counter and 3 tables within arm's reach of the counter. Very small and informal. A friend and I went there for lunch and the transaction went as follows. Order taker swivels around on stool: What do ya want? We place our orders. Order taker swivels around again when order is ready and gives us our food. We eat Order taker swivels around again to give us our bill we pay and then realize that we have just enough cash (cash only place) to pay for the food and not enough for tip. At this point, we figure that a) this place is one of those limbo places where you are not sure if you should tip or not and b) we would just tip bigger next time to make up for it. We leave out money on the table and leave. The order taker chases out after us onto the street demanding a tip. We tell him that we would have, but ran out of money that day. He turns around in disgust and slams the door. I have also had issues with their sister restaurant Tai-ger room further south on the Ave. I was eating with my girlfriend who cannot handle spicy food. We order a phad thai with one star out of five for spicyness. The food comes and is blazing hot. It was so hot that I could barely eat it (and I am no spicy slouch). I try to eat it so as not to make a scene, but give up after a few bites. I told the waiter that this is obviously not a one star dish and he agrees and takes it away. He comes back with the new dish, which is the appropriate heat level. He then informs us that he is going to charge us for half of the first dish on top of the new one since we ate some of it before sending it back. Ben

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

Thai Tom is good, they are bitches, but make good food. I have not been to Thailand so I cannot make the comparison.

Yes, very.

Chocolate nutrition "shake" cheese, lemon, almonds, and tea sounds better.

That sounds like a restaurant or its tagline.

On Saturday I smoked up a 10 lb brisket, a 4 lb pork shoulder, chicken wings, and a rack of pork ribs. The shoulder was the winner overall, but the brisket crust was insanely good. Sunday morning, I made hash with the brisket, potatoes, onions, and eggs. Sunday evening, I made a great Stroganoff with more brisket. I just ate some brisket for lunch. I still have over a pound of brisket. Mmmm, brisket. Ben

At theMistral Cooking Class we made a dish with striped bass. It was seared in olive oil, then placed on a bed of fava beans, baby artichokes, and grape tomatoes. It was topped with a watercress salad too. Really frigging good. Ben

Ok so for a chocolate milkshake do you prefer making it with chocolate ice cream and milk or vanilla ice cream, milk, and chocolate syrup (or other forms of chocolate)? Ben

I did not find any fresh mangosteen here (seattle), but did pick up some canned ones in syrup. Who knows if they will be any good... Ben
-
I didn't see them there. I was actually looking for mangosteen since I heard you can get them from hawaii now. I do know they have them canned though. Ben

If I get back down to the International Dist. soon, I will try out some of the tiwanese ones. Ben
