What about places that automatically add a tip into the bill before it is presented then neglect to announce that fact? This has happened to me several times in South Beach. That is not right. I have learned to always total the bill if dining at a place I have never been to before. Then if they add before tax, making me pay tax on that tip, then i really get steamed. And that has happened.

Holly, you do realize that I have a feeling that I will not be able to locate a Moon Pie anywhere in Tulsa, I may have to make a run over to Arkansas this weekend.

My Granny always had either the chocolate or the banana flavored moon pies in her pantry. I never remember a time without them. And my favorite Mobile Mardi Gras parade was the Order of Myths, as a kid. Now, it is probably the Order of Polka Dots or the Mystics of Time and always the Joe Cain parade which goes to the graveyard in order to raise Cain as Joe Cains Grave. And Moonpies, with Coca Colas. When I went to help my friend Johnny Earles of Criollas in Grayton Beach, Fl do a Mardi Gras celebration dinner at the James Beard House, I had homemade Moon Pies as a gift to everyone there as they were leaving. It was great fun and not hard to do.

now Brooks has done flung a cravn' on me. My favorite was Plum Street Snowballs, because when I lived on Lowerline, i could walk over. And I loved the cream almond flavor. also, the wild cherry. I never made it over to Hansens. I wonder where davebr went on the west bank?

back in the mid 90's, I was making a sweet corn ice cream for one of my desserts at Criolla's in Grayton Beach, Fl. I served it with a cornmeal cookie and a chili chocolate fudge bar. It was well received then.

Simone Rathle's web siteHere is a link to Simonesez that gives a press release on Gunther Seeger's restaurant at the Willcox. I hope this helps with any questions. From reading about the property, I would expect this type of dining here.

Aiken does not look to be that far from Augusta. Maybe he is using it as a way to attend the Masters every year. Besides, White table cloth dining is not limited to just big cities. I love the fact that you can find a variety a good food styles and price ranges in out of the way places. I remember being pleasantly suprised while dining in San Ignacio, Cayo District, Belize. I remember when finding decent dining in the Napa Valley was not that easy in the early 70's. I have eaten at Seegar's restaurant in Sandestin Beach Resort Florida and will go back. So dine on.

Julia opened the door to me. It was because of watching her show way back when and reading her books that I decided to cook for a living. The captain has left the ship, but she has left it well informed. A toast to a culinary friend. We will miss you. Obituary from todays New York Times

There is a company in St. Louis that makes a most incredible chocolate covered blackberry and it is only available for 4 weeks of the year and that time is coming up quicklyl Bissinger's is the place and I need to stop doing this and go order a couple of boxes before they run out.

Should we alert Lowe's to stock up on power drills in preparation for the wine drinkers rush? you learn something everyday. I have used a Wagner power sprayer to paint with chocolate, now another use for those power tools that I love. Another excuse for we closet power tool junkies.

Ida, here is a link for fresh peach daquaries at www.drinksmixer.com. Just do a search on their site, they have several fresh peach beverage recipes.

I did stop in when I was in town. If they can keep it up, they can change the entire market of convience stores. We are getting a new brand since 'Get n Go' went under. It is called 'Kum n Go'. I do not know where they are from, but the name is awfully suggestive. Now if someone in Tulsa could figure out how to make a real cuban. I have memories of the Silver Ring in Tampa back in the early 70's.

THe first time I heard this quote, the wording was "as an erotic sigh or a baby's kiss" from the cellarmaster of Domaine Chandon before they had their original press tasting at the little restaurant I was working at in San Francisco at that time. This was late 70's and the restaurant was the London Wine Bar on Sansome Street. It was a great time, I remember when we had our first shipment of the 74 Mondavi Cabernet, it retailed for under $10 a bottle. This was back when families owned the wineries, not corporations.

A very good friend of mine has cooked at Andalusia for a while and they have that beautiful garden space if you are looking for outdoors

I would recommend picking up a nice bottle of Villa Maria Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2001 on the way home, those crafty New Zealanders have managed to put really good wine into a bottle with a screw cap. Opener not needed.

Cocktail times Ida, first, welcome to egullet. This place is amazing. The link above is for making a fresh fruit infused vodka with which you can make other libations. Hope it helps give you some ideas.

Houston's web site I found nothing about dress codes at the Houston's web site. Actually, I found very little information at all. But it seems their corporate hq is Arizona. I appreciate no cell phones when dining, I guess this is a hangover from my childhood, when the television was turned off during the meal so we could talk about the days events with no interruptions. As to hats, I do not understand how so many males have had such bad upbringing. My brother and I were both trained to remove any and all headgear when entering a room. It was the gentlemanly thing to do (and still is for me). If someone wants to keep that nasty dirty baseball hat on, it is their choice. But a good southern upbringing taught otherwise. Maybe they should have two hats, one for everyday and another for stepping out. About the tank tops, okay for the dive bar or that little fish shack down the way. And the women need to be cognizant of what they are wearing also. Some women really should not bare that midriff or squeeze into those daisy dukes. It just is not a pretty sight. Unless you have spent too much time at that dive or that fish shack down the way. Somehow, i have trouble associating dress codes with food quality. What do dress codes have to do with food quality. I have been to some jackets required dining spots and the food was plain awful. We do not have a Houston's here in Tulsa. So I guess I will never find out. Oh well.

I agree with Brooks, now I have got a craving done flung on me, where are those eggs.

Thanks Longhorn Gal for the great directions. I will be in Austin on Wednesday afternoon and staying through until thursday when I head to Dallas for the Robb Walsh booksigning. Did they ever decide to go to dinner and where? I am looking forward to doing a basic drive through to get the lay of the land, but i will be checking out that pastry case I have not decided where to eat dinner yet, but hopefully it will be someplace delicious.

I am going to be passing through "Austin next week, now how exactly do i find this place? The last time I was in Austin it was probably 1953 and I was very young. so I know nada about this city. I plan to over nite here before heading to dallas for the Rob Walsh booksigning.

I grew up in the South and because we always pronunced it "mew- instead of moo" i completely missed the similarity when the ad first came on. I probably will not make a special stop at the DQ to try one so all of the fuss is about more than I am willing to waste time on.
