  2. these look amazing... congrats on a very successful day of baking!
  3. Milka... I've only had it once before and can't seem to find it around up here... but, man, it was heaven brought about by a purple cow.

    Breakin' the Law

The cat does all the cooking.
  5. I have to add Claytons, which is on the other side of the dreded parking lot from Mamouns(god, I miss that place)... but, give yourself a bit of time and order the oxtail stew... and thank you for making me so homesick

    Galettes

i just did one using puff pastry(with a border scored into it), mix of crushed nuts, ginger, butter and smidge of brown sugar... served w/a lemon creme... and came out well enough to serve on the menu that night.
  7. I love the last part about the bridesmaids.... you definately rock for that kind gesture. I'm getting to know the pastry chef at Cinque Terre--she also does their pasta. Great girl..dreadhead, but I have yet to head over there for some dessert one night. I have never been to Fore St. and am curious to know, from you guys, if the FOH is as bad as people say. I've only encountered them once, when I had to go there to get some basil and the one woman was great but the younger girl was not so pleasant. It's also been a topic of contention over on mainetoday.com in the dining area.
  8. I'm from albany... if you're looking for vegitarian: Honest Weight Food Co-op for lunch for burritos the size of your arm: Bombers on Lark for thai: Sukothai on lark High Class Italian: Cafe Cappricio Where everyone goes at least once in their life: Jack's Oyster on state st.
  9. I have not been to saratoga in over a year(I lived in albany until last november)... is Ravenous still there? their crepes and fries were divine.
  10. I started watching the show a few episodes into its run, and was curious ... was her homosexuality discussed earlier in the series? Or was it mentioned for the first time last night? ← last night was the first mention of it... but the gaydar was going crazy everytime she came on screen.
  11. The only thing appealing about Jessica was her redheaded gf... other than that, I'm very glad she's gone as she definately came off as more someone trying to stay out of the fire, rather than jumping into it.
  12. Interesting question but it would depend on the night. Most nights would bring the smell of garlic sauteeing or vanilla coffee.
  13. that is a great piece, steve. This weekend is 'campers weekend' in portland---which means that the parents are dropping their kids off at camp and the parents are enjoying the town... needless to say, I drove by HUGO's tonight and there was a line out the door. Same with 555 and duckfat. Made me smile. I know where I work, we were booked up as of last week for the weekend. Not a place in the city will be spared from the crowds, so you were wise to come up earlier. 2 fat cats is owned by dana street--of street and co./fore st. fame... and it's gotten amazing reviews. Mim's I haven't been to yet, but I always recommend it when people are looking for a lunch place when they come into our restaurant(which is only open for dinner). But, yea, it's a bit different from what I hear it was(i've lived in portland for about 9 months now). I think we're looking @ late august to try hugo's--anniversary dinner thing.. his menu really blows me away and I was in awe of chef evans when he was in @ duckfat one day when my gf and I were there.
  14. Chef Bourdain is one of the few reasons I miss cable...
  15. yes, but are you moving your arse while you're laughing it off? that's really what is most important..
  16. made some scrambled eggs using left over cilantro chutney from a local place... added some center cut bacon and crumbled potatoes...
  17. the whole michael to michael 3am pep talk was complete and utter shite...
  18. God, I can't believe you took a picture of the Friehoffers bag... *sniff* I'm from albany--living in Portland, ME--and you just made me miss home so much...
  19. Gotta love a show with the guy that played Xander on Buffy... no, seriously, you do.. too bad the preview did come off as painfully cheezy..
  20. Coffee Potatoes currently: Peanut Butter
  21. limoncello would be great..
  22. God, I miss having BBC America.... *sigh*
  23. oh Duckfat is AMAZING!!!! I'm a huge fan of the 'all day' duck confit and tuna melt... the cheese sauce for the fries is ok, though a lil skimpy of a portion. The truffle ketchup was blah.. Duck gravy, curry mayo and garlic were great... have fun and enjoy. I would also recommend their home brewed Ginger Beer... very refreshing. and the fries.... well, you decide for yourself... they've ruined all other fries for me...
