  1. I don't know if I hate it when I agree with her. I figure there are reviewers that can mesh with my own personal tastes most of the time and there are reviewers who can also clash with my tastes most of the time. But the keyword is 'most'. In this case I agree with her hands down. There was a thread on this fact before. I believe it was Lorna's friend who felt hungry afterwards and ate somewhere else to 'top off'. I felt the same way when I went but I DID enjoy the food. I was just s little surprised that for the price point I wasn't sated. I will say that the service when I went, however, was absolutley first class. The waiter was attentive but not overbearing and he made us both laugh. Especially the face he made when insisting we not look at this sushi like any other sushi and how soy and wasabi are BIG no nos I had no idea the bar required a minimum order though. That is surprising but I guess the demand for it is high enough that he can get away with that.
  2. Any Jackson Pollock's yet? I hope someone is carrying my torch
  3. Note to self, read ALL of the first post before opening my yapper. Thanks B. I hadn't noticed it was mentioned. Anyone been on the patio of Red Robins on broadway and Oak? It looked like a decent patio (as patios go).
  4. There's a nice patio in around Jericho. But I don't want to tell everyone about it in case it becomes flooded with people. But I'm sure if you happened to be sailing past it you won't miss it. The patio is super nice with an incredible view of the ocean and the boats on the water. Maybe not that centreally located though. It's pretty far west.
  5. I have spies. They saved a morsel for me and delivered it. I'm not sure which group's I had though they didn't say.
  6. So fatty. So good. Had to force myself to store the rest for later. Later being now.
  7. That piggie looks SO good. OMG. I just had a surprise visit by two dashing women presenting pork belley. That's got to be one of the best surprises! mmm yumm bring on the pictures!
  8. Interestingly, I judge the cleanliness of the kitchen by the bathroom. If the bathroom is a mess I assume the kitchen is no better. The Coastal health reports are an interesting read indeed. Banana leaf was cited numerous times but I have to admit I love the food there and I havn't personally gotten sick yet. I really like the Ontario rating system. It puts health code violations right on the forefront of attention since you either comply or are branded. I liked how they even do it for grocery stores (read the thread on supermarket nigthmares).
  9. One more question. I used onions and carrots for body and sweetness. Do you normally blend this all in with the walnuts and pomogranate? I did but I wasnt' sure if it was more traditional and rustic to leave the carrots and onions as-is in the Fessen Jun.
  10. Ouisi - Dinner First time there and I enjoyed the Ribs (the meat really came off the bone) and the corn bread was so good I was full on it before the meal came. Then I finished myself off by asking for more and dipping it in the gumbo. The Pistachio encrusted catfish was a really interesting - and good - concept as well. I wish the sangria came with booze infused fruit. Moxie's - Dessert / Drinks I was DD but my friend mentioned the drink she had was pretty 'weak' in potency. The Xango (Chango) which consisted of Bananas in Phyllo and then drizzled with Carmel, brown sugar and cinnamon was really good. Au Petite Cafe - Lunch Feeling dejected from Cafe D'lite being closed we headed for Au Petit and waited in the nice line (at 12:00). Not the best plan of action on a Sunday (to go to this super busy place) but it was worth the wait. We ordered the number 1 and 2 Bahn Mi as well as some Pho, the lemon grass chicken on Vermacilli and spring rolls. This time round the spring rolls were as I had said to Sandy 'the best I ever had'. The buns were SO soft on the inside and toasted on the outside. The meat inside was moist and juicy. I looked across the street and cursed at the kids who went to school there. Lucky bums.
  11. [Wikipedia] yellow journalism is a pejorative reference given to various practices or tendencies of news media organizations which, by the standards of journalistic professionalism, are considered to be unprofessional and detrimental to the principles of journalistic integrity as a whole. [/wikipedia] Yes. This is a much more accurate description.
  12. ^ predictable yes. Maybe it's just me but don't we all need at least one really bitter cynic in every crowd? Helps balance out the industry? I'm sure this is how she feels about her role as a food writer. Again I think this is pushing the envelope of responsible journalism. Slander should be left for the politicians.
  13. ^ well that explains it! Overnight soaking probably made it way too soft! I will try for 1 hour next time. Here's a picture of my 'Taduk'
  14. That's wonderful! And who shouldn't thank their fish and cows and lambs? They worked hard to be tasty. They just did't know it.
  15. Ostrich is really very much like beef to me. But it's softer and has a bit more of a gamey flavour. I really like it actually. So good in congee mm with some preserved egg! Kangaroo I have no tried. Although I was tempted when Storman's had it on their menu (the 'roo burger' it was called). Then my neighbour went off on a tantrum about how cute Kangaroos are and I had to tune her out. I'm equal opportunity. I eat ugly and cute all the same.
  16. I find his writing inspiring and really entertaining. I would like to meet the real person.
  17. The Congee house on Main and 15th also has Ostrich. Unfortunately it also had a shooting last week (doh). Congee noodle house also serves seabass congee (my favorite) but I've been avoiding it to try to be oceanwise.
  18. To further the Provence bandwagon. They also have a deli side which makes very tasty panini's and other assorted goodies. You could also grab a big to-go bag and take mum out onto the seawall and find a nice patch of grass to picnic. Kids can go wild on the grass, parents and mums can chill on the lawn.
  19. Clear as mud. That is exactly the one I was thinking of. Is the Wickininnish far enough out? But maybe not so far from the industry? What am I saying? How bout making your date dinner?
  20. someone...quick! wipe the drool off my chin!
  21. Dang. Why have I not walked the 15 steps to this place. Why?? Congrats to Jeff! That's quite a shakeup this year!
  22. *** BURGER PORN ALERT *** Don't look if you're hungry. Great "meat" (oh and good meet too). So nice to see so many burger lovers. The patty was a perfect medium-rare and pink inside. Juicy and soft. The bun was nicely toasted on the bottom and still cool on top and the right springy bready consistency. I'm going back for sure. Thanks to Pez for organizing. Can't wait for the next one. P.S. Arne, here's the address of the Witch Pub [MAP] <hint> <hint>
  23. Is that the one in the mall-lette by Lougheed and North? I've heard a lot of good things about that place. It's on my list of places to try!!
  24. Despite the state of mind issue (famished = anything is good) I think this will be a nice baseline test of the burgers and now you can put the hunger matter in check this sunday!
  25. In addition to this I thought BSE didn't go away with cooking (no matter how long). It's a problem with the DNA(RNA?) in the proteins or something. Rare or cooked if you're exposed to it, you're going to be equally screwed.
