  1. Are you doing catering from there, Fink? A friend is looking for some barbecue catering. ← maybe fink can start his own thread?
  2. tried fat jack's last night, and the meats were very good. brisket was moist and tender, and had the most smoke flavor. the pork ribs were excellent, and the beef ribs were outstanding - charred, fatty, greasy and delicious in their dry rub.
  3. There are locations in Vineland and Clementon, and a new one is opening in July in the Acme Center at Greentree and Egg Harbor Rd. Anyone been? The menu boasts "championship ribs", and they have some local "bests" to their credit.
  4. We went with our kids (boys 3 and 6) and friends on Memorial Day, and we had a great day in the water park. it was all families early on, but the crowd became rougher around the edges after 4PM, when the park offers reduced price admission. We left shortly after 5. the food in the park was limited to hot dogs and pretzels ($3 hot dog makes the .80 super pretzel a bargain); other choices will be available as the season progresses. or are you concerned about Fat Jack's as a destination?
  5. Clementon Amusement park What is Clementon Park? And why would you get hollered at? ← http://www.clementonpark.com/ I just moved to South Jersey a few months ago, and was not aware of Fat Jack's. Thanks for the recommendation, coolpapabell.
  6. can someone please link to the location of the report itself, rather than a site's homepage? I can't find it on either phillymag or channel 6's sites.
  7. "cretins" seems like a mean-spirited, completely unnecessary slam at the hard working folks behind the counter at Tony Luke's.
  8. Mexico Lindo in New Castle DE is very good. They have a $6.95 lunch buffet that features a variety of taco fillings, as well as 3 or 4 hot dishes that change daily, or you can order off the menu. The lunch choices are around $6.25 and most include rice or beans and salad,
  9. What Holly said. But I think both steaks are very very close, and very very similar in quality and flavor, and quality of rolls. I''ve had both versions this week, and they are both superior steaks. ← I tried Johnny's today (wiz with)and found it a step below Steve's Prince of Steaks and Talk of the Town, my two favorite "flipped" steaks. The meat was a bit dry and chewy. The hot sausage I sampled was the superior sandwich, and I will return for that.
  10. Oscar's on Sansom St. and Philadium on Packer Ave.
  11. Talk of the Town is just north of Packer Ave, 6 or so blocks south of Snyder. You can easily walk there from the arena parking lot.
  12. Tutti Toscani by Lamberti in Cherry Hill on Brace Rd. 8oz. sirloin burger cooked medium to order, topped with gorgonzola and carmelized onions, served on grilled focaccia, with a side caesar salad for all of $7 (takeout price). also lunch portions of pastas, including the Tre P, cheese tortellini in alfredo sauce with peas, prosciutto and parmesan for $6.50. very good food at terrific prices.
  13. Don Franco's on Egg Harbor Rd at Hurffville-Grenloch in Sewell makes a terrific roast pork with broccoli rabe and sharp provolone...it may be the best broccoli rabe I have tasted, on a crispy seeded Sarcone roll. also a great variety of hoagies, and a promise of pizza and strombolis within the next 8 weeks or so.
  14. I second that salivation.
  15. we are moving to the burbs in a couple days after many many years of city living. we are leaving South Phila (Girard Estates), and here are our final takeout choices: Nick's Roast Beef - the original and the best, at 20th and Jackson. Beef combos overboard on the outs, with a side of gravy fries Jamaican Jerk Hut - whole Jerk Chicken with rice and peas, vegetable roti, and 2 chicken patties Tony Luke's - roast pork sandwiches with sharp provolone and long hots, may they open soon in Washington Twp Chickie's and Pete's - white pizza with lobster tail, mussels in red, buffalo wings, and hot shrimp in the garlic/pepper broth Happily, our family, friends and jobs will keep us in the city on a regular basis. If you have a better recommendation for delivery or take-out, let's hear it! Reading Terminal Market is too obvious. close runners-up are Bomb-Bomb for the BBQ chicken and rib combo, and Criniti's lasagna.
  16. very sorry to hear the news, Paul. I was looking forward to your opening. thanks for sharing the saga.
  17. Yes, raw sausage so I can make my own sausage and pepper sandwiches. Do you know the deli I was referring to, sounded great and damn if I can find it on the board ← Cannuli's House of Pork on 9th St. or at 17th and Ritner has a variety of italian sausage. Personally, I am fond of Maglio's in the local supermarket. In my wife's homemade gravy, the hot sausage is outstanding.
  18. you may be able to recreate the red hot at the vendor at 24th and Passyunk (with the exception of the poppyseed bun). Hot Dog Truck at Hollyeats.com
  19. We have about 9 weeks before we move. What are your S Philly faves or hidden gems worth trying before we go? Butchers, bakers, restaurants, take out and delivery... Also, any recommendations for the Jersey side are greatly appreciated. Jay
  20. I will miss franks-a-lot. I remember when they opened. It was my first "bacon-chili-cheese dog with mustard and raw onions...a great sandwich. their chicken was good enough to inspire occasional cravings. Their picture is featured on my RTM Centennial poster. the sandwich stand has had multiple owners, and won't be missed, except perhaps by conventioneers. the shame of losing the hot dog stand is, it was a low cost lunch choice for those with kids in tow.
  21. would Mahogany above Holt's on Walnut St. qualify as classy? They have a nice selection of single malts and cigars on the menu, and the food is pretty good. I don't drink mixed drinks (unless you count a dirty vodka martini as a mixed drink), so I can't help with signature cocktails.
  22. I was on the 7200 block of Germantown Ave visiting a customer, needed change for the meter, stomach started rumbling when I entered the store....so I ordered 2 pieces fried chicken with fries. it was only 11AM, but the scent had me hooked. the chicken was very good (leg and thigh), the fries excellent...has anyone tried the ribs? is the quality consistent across the many locations?
  23. Stein Boys Famous is very good. They have been on Krewstown Road for about 30 years, maybe more.
  24. I had the roquefort burger today. the bartender suggested medium, which was ok with me. mine came medium rare, dining partner's was medium as ordered. it was a bit underdone in the center for my taste. however, since it is an 8 oz. burger stuffed with melted cheese, topped with a pile of onions, I was full after about two thirds. the fries are weak. it was such a big pile on the plate, I was able to find a few crispy enough to eat, but unless they come with your order, I wouldn't bother. the pulled pork empanadas were good, and come with a very tasty homemeade bbq sauce. nice selection of seasonal beers on tap.
  25. You can great a great tray Sunday at the P & S deli at 17th and Oregon. make sure to include the chicken cutlet with roasted peppers and sharp provolone.
