  1. my folks call Andonio's Diner on Krewstown Rd in the Far Northeast their kitchen. They eat there 3-4 times a week. Consistently good food in a clean place at a low price. the parking lot is packed all day.
  2. Sweet Lucy's makes good slaw.
  3. Laban's review of Zento's sushi in this week's paper has me drooling and dialing for a reservation. For a small place like this, a review of this magnitude is likely incredibly influential on their future. Vonda Bucci at John's Roast Pork has told me more than once that Laban's naming theirs' the best cheesesteak in the Philly area changed their lives.
  4. Staying at the Bellagio in a couple weeks - is there a compelling reason to choose one over the other?
  5. um, no. not compared to the areas of South Jersey I visit. PA may have some loss leaders in the state stores, but on the whole, no contest. Also, many Jersey stores break open the gift packs after the holidays and sell the bar utensils, glasses, etc. for a buck or so in January and February. I guess PA just sits on the stock until the next year?
  6. I had the Good Dog burger at the bar today for lunch as well, perfectly medium rare, and it was fantastic. paired very nicely with the draught Stoudt's. The fries could have been hotter, but they did not detract from that amazing burger.
  7. what exactly is yuzu?
  8. San Miguel I had an excellent dinner last night at San Miguel. Worth a ride up Rt 55 for you to try.
  9. the sirloin, bacon wrapped chicken chunks, sausage, some other cut of beef, all were great. also a great chopped tomato salad and black bean stew on the buffet. the only thing not outstanding was the pork. it was a little dry. at $7 a pound, ridiculously cheap. I can't wait to go back.
  10. I think Whole Foods is trying to compete with Wegman's, rather than Trader Joe's. Wegman's poses a much bigger threat to Whole Foods, IMO.
  11. Couldn't we just let this part of our state be annexed by PA and be done with it, already? ← if it means I get to pay my old PA property taxes, and PA gets the casino revenue, I am all for it. perhaps NY should annex northern Jersey as well.
  12. Is that Liscio's on Oregon Ave.? ← If so, it is a new outpost. I thought all their locations were in South Jersey. The one near me is in Sewell, Rt 55 to Exit 56A, then 8 lights or so on Egg Harbor Rd, they are in a strip center on the right hand side.
  13. Liscio's makes a good room temperature sheet pie.
  14. It is such a horrible slice. the only thing it has going for it is size.
  15. The Liscio's near me (Egg Harbor Rd in Sewell) has a full line of baked goods that includes their excellent rolls, plus pizza and strombolis, also cakes and pastry, and a full service deli, plus a cheese case featuring pre-packaged favorites from DiBruno's, also P & S pastas. When South Philadelphians leave the hood, they head over the bridge to Washington Twp.
  16. correct. it is the South Jersey Washington Twp. I am trying to broaden the the reach of the NJ board to extend south of NJ Tpk Exit 9.
  17. got a good writeup today from the Discreet Diner in the Neighbors section of the Inquirer. Has anyone tried their food?
  18. There is a Fat Jack's BBQ in Vineland, on Delsea Drive. Great smoked ribs (beef or pork) and brisket.
  19. 13 (now 14) posts and I still don't know if the hot dog is any good, let alone whether I can choose brown or yellow mustard...and for that money a pickle bar would be appreciated...
  20. several of the spaces mentioned are not suitable for a reception of 300. if you are planning a reception that large and haven't chosen a venue for an event that is 3 months off, you are WAY behind. best of the luck to whoever has their name attached to that project.
  21. that is the rumor...what have you heard? on a related note, I have heard good things about the recently opened Smokey Bones in NE Phila at Grant and the Blvd.
  22. Popi's has the space, the food is very good, and they are located at 20th and Penrose in South Philly. (edited to put the link in the right spot )
  23. I had excellent jumbo hard shell crabs and crab cakes from Ed's Crab Shack on Egg Harbor Road in Sewell. Also cooked 100 little necks on the gril. They are takeout only. Can't wait to place my order for the 4th!
  24. I stop in the Moorestown store for lunch most Fridays. The parking lot is packed, but the store is easily navigated and there is always plenty of space in the upstairs dining area. There is more than enough staff on hand to deal with shoppers.
  25. had beef and pork ribs from fat jack's last night, and again, outstanding. also, the collard greens and mashed potatoes with cream gravy were among the best I have tried. the ribs are better than philly fave Sweet Lucy's (but Sweet Lucy's makes a better pulled pork).
