  1. Wow - a higher standard than some of the newspaper reviewers - you actually visit multiple times before giving a bad review! Cheers!
  2. Did you graduate from there too, Keith? Cheers!
  3. I'm assuming that was the same day I ran into your group of 4 there. The service that day was the worst I have ever seen there. I'm glad to hear that they have had some changes. Maybe I'll give it another try. I haven't returned since that day either! (I actually tried once for lunch to find that they were no longer open for lunch.) Cheers!
  4. I just took a more careful look over the menu and I agree I don't see any Cuban influence. Hm..... False marketing, eh?!?!?!?! Or does having a mojito on the drinks list qualify?
  5. Has anyone been to Chivana? I just heard of it and it sounds interesting. Curious what others know of it. Cheers!
  6. I would 2nd mangez's recommendation of Top Gun for dim sum. Currently my favourite by far. Just be sure to not get lured in by the seemingly random addition of sushi to the menu. Stick to the Chinese dishes. The Top Gun group also runs a hot pot restaurant in the next building over from Top Gun Dim Sum that is quite good as well. I forget the name of it. Cheers!
  7. Yes, I have been there. Very limited and over-priced selection. Many products seem like they don't turn often and were quite dusty. Cheers!
  8. For those interested, the closure list that Neil refers to is located here: http://www.vch.ca/environmental/docs/food/..._closures06.pdf You like szechuan chong qing, Neil? Yes, their health report was nasty, I agree. Cheers!
  9. What! How many is that now- I lost count. Ten in 20 years steve sidebar- somebody needs to exercise that place ← Agreed. The location is less than ideal in many ways. Perhaps it should just be converted to some other type of store?!?!?!? Cheers!
  10. Neil, your place has one of the cleanest records on the system! But in terms of the mice, etc. I agree they are not uncommon. But one would hope that the restaurant would clean them up at first sight, and not wait for an inspection to find the problem, no? Cheers!
  11. There was an older thread about these online inspection sites that I can't seem to dig up now. But Vancouver/Richmond have similar data available online regarding the latest health inspections here. For "interesting" reading there check Joe Fortes' string of reports, including the mice droppings. It seems that part of town has regularly had troubles as Aki also reports rodent droppings in the storage area and Samba has a report of a fruit fly infestation in its history. Cheers!
  12. I would say yes. Richmond is far superior for Chinese cuisine.
  13. You might want to take a look at this thread: Guide to Vancouver Bests which has links to the thread for many of the cuisines you have asked about. Cheers!
  14. If you like the izakaya style (like Guu or Hapa) then you may also like Alpha, which is located at 1099 Richards. I believe the owners used to work at Guu and Kamei Royale. Here is a link: Alpha Website Another possibility would be to do the kaiseki multi-course meal at Yoshi's on Denman. Here is a link: Yoshi's Website What happened to Chiyoda and Sakae? Is there a shake-up?!?!?!?! Best of luck!
  15. Ordinary cafe on 4th has been replaced with Sushi Hut? But the sign now readings Ordinary Sushi Hut! Cheers!
  16. It is also available at some Thai restaurants like Chili House on Beach. They do ostrich satay, ostrich lettuce wraps, and 2 or 3 ostrich curries. You could do an all ostrich meal! Cheers!
  17. Hi. So if you had 3 meals in Banff, what would they be? All tips much appreciated! Cheers!
  18. It is very close to that intersection. There are a dozen or so Korean restaurants in the neighbourhood. Not sure if that is the one you are thinking of or not. It is in that 2 level mall (on the upper level) above the Korean supermarket which is not H-mart. (Across North Road from H-mart.) Was that as clear as mud, fud? Cheers!
  19. For a different twist try the Korean Royal Cuisine multi-course meal at Be-ga-ne in Burnaby. Cheers!
  20. Dumpling girl has coined a new term for Senhor Rooster: http://nancyland.blogspot.com/2006/03/senh...-portugese.html "The East End, Portugese Bishop's" I hope we don't see Daniel doing White Spot commercials soon..... Cheers!
  21. For Italian bakeries I much prefer Calabria Bakery over Fratelli's. Their website is located at: http://calabriabakery.com/ Their Sfogliatelle are the most authentic I've had in Vancouver. (Be sure to call them a day in advance to reserve some as they only have them on the weekends unless you special order them.) In terms of standard bakery I've enjoyed several of the items from the Swiss Bakery. Their website is located at: http://swissbakery.ca/ Cheers!
  22. Glad you enjoyed it! I was quite happy with it the time I stumbled upon it on a shopping trip. I only later found that article written about it. I had just gone in based upon the sign written in Spanish that said, "Ship Money to Mexico here" right next to "Tacos." I figured it may actually be the real deal. I wonder if we could talk them into opening one north of the border. They apparently have a 2nd location in another Washington town now. Cheers!
  23. A nexus taco run. $50 taco, eh?
  24. I hope Daddy-A adds a link to this thread in http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=66736 Considering the number of Japanese in Vancouver the quality is not what one would expect. I guess the 99 cent sushi craze has taken its toll. Some place worth considering in Vancouver are: - Sakae - Aki Both are on Thurlow in the same underground area across the street from the Shangri-La construction site. Sakae specializes in sushi, but does a reasonable job on other items as well. Aki specializes in izakaya/robata. Only been once to Zakushi on Denman, but they did a reasonable job on various yaki and also have some Okinawa specialties on the menu. Of course there are always the do-it-yourself options by shopping at Angel Seafood. Cheers!
  25. Keith: Check item180 above. Tienda El Polivoz in Bellingham was far superior to Chilo's - other than the fact you have to go through customs to get a taco. Cheers!
