  1. Hopefully machaca is close behind? Cheers!
  2. Not being a food loser that listens to that station, what did Feenie have to say? Was he being a real weenie? Cheers!
  3. Wouldn't something like that chocolate party you posted pictures about a while ago qualify as the same thing? Cheers!
  4. Somehow this entire thread brings out the sarcastic side in everyone. See what you have done, Feenie!!!!!!! You've turned the normally loveable egullet-folk into a sarcastic bunch of brats. (Me included.)
  5. [sarcasm on] HSG Chef Neil Wyles joins Air Canada, courtesy of Harmony Airways Vancouver, BC, July 17, 2006: Vancouver-based Harmony Airways is pleased to announce Canada's own GBP Chef, Neil Wyles, will apply his culinary expertise in flight at 39,000 feet as the new executive chef for Air Canada. Wyles, the GBP Chef North America champion and restaurateur of Vancouver's award-winning Hamilton Street Grille has created a menu of steakhouse inspired appetizers, entrees, deserts and wine pairings now being served on all Air Canada routes that still serve food free of charge. "Harmony Airways is proud of being a Vancouver-based carrier, and we try to make sure we maintain a competitive edge over our arch rival Air Canada. Having Neil Wyles take over their menu will give us a strong advantage on the culinary front. It was difficult to reach Nyles, but once we got through to his frequently disconnected cell phone he was happy to join the cause," said the head of market strategy for Harmony Airways. "I just like to do my part to preserve my financial future, and helping attack the Air Canada brand is my little way of investing in my family's future," said the cranky Nyles. This deal comes on the heels of a recent deal completed by Translink to have Chef Nyles remove his photo from all public transit in the Greater Vancouver area for which he received an undisclosed amount. Harmony Airways is an industry leader in full-service, competitive air travel, offering full meal service, complimentary wine and comfortable leg room in every seat. Harmony's fleet of four 171 seat Boeing 757 aircraft includes harmonyone business class, featuring Rob Feenie's menu, wines, personal on-demand entertainment and luxurious wide leather seats. [/sarcasm off]
  6. Great. Next trend in Vancouver will be Trashy Lingerie tacos. Sheesh!
  7. They have real cutlery. It is more an issue of what the altitude does to the taste buds - need to up the spice quotient substantially to get the same flavour bang.
  8. Ahhh....That hadn't been clear from the menu. I thought it just said "beef"? Thanks for clarifying. Do you keep the pieces large and grill them? Or is it more of the stewed type? I know my description is not so great, so I tried to find a picture. The only one I could find of what I meant is on the right hand side of this link: picture Oh wait, just found another one that is much better: Skirt steak taco
  9. Any plans to add a skirt steak taco?
  10. Was it more of a fiasco that just getting pulled off the air? Cheers!
  11. I was thinking of the path he takes - not that the future is in question. First White Spot, now Airlines. What's next? Cheers!
  12. Here is the news release. Excerpt: New menus are here. Has anyone tried them yet? Any thoughts on Feenie's future with this move? Cheers!
  13. They are open. I had lunch there today. I'm going to reserve comment until I try it again (after they have been up and running a while longer), and they get the opening kinks out. Cheers!
  14. Hi. There are some specific previous threads you might find useful: * Master list of useful threads: http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=66736 Other quick trip threads: http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=66451 http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=65482 http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=64794 http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=63293 http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=59143 Have fun and eat well! Cheers!
  15. I'll confirm that! My only visit was for dim sum at lunch time and I have never returned. I have always read the rave reviews of them with that dim sum lunch in mind and really questioned what the heck was going on with these positive reviews and if it was somehow influenced by some random Chinese wine brought to a big dinner? Now that I know there is a big quality difference for dinner I feel a bit better and may actually give them a try for dinner sometime. Cheers!
  16. Yes, that is the one - the uncured corned beef. Kaplan's does have it here in Vancouver. It is decent most of the time. Every now and then it is too dried out, but many times it has been good. The posts upthread suggest we are getting a different cut here in Vancouver, but I haven't noticed that with Kaplan's. Sometimes you get the really moist part from the fattier "good" part and on those days Kaplan's satisfies the craving. Cheers!
  17. I don't know that older is really better per se, but the oldest NY Jewish deli I know of is Katz's: website which opened in 1888. The young whipper snappers up in Montreal at Schwartz's didn't open until the 20th century! Cheers!
  18. I'd suggest Angel Seafood for a wide variety of flash frozen fish. It is located on Grant east of Clark. They supply a large number of the sushi bars around town. Cheers!
  19. Does anyone know of anyplace in the Vancouver/Richmond area that serves a lobster dim sum similar to the one from Yank Sing down in San Francisco? Picture here on the Yanksing Website
  20. I still crave an excellent NEW YORK style brisket sandwich. The smoked meat is fine for what it is - but New York style brisket doesn't get that pink brining that the Montreal variety has. No big debate on the relative merits. Just different styles. Cheers!
  21. Reading over the guide I see they took a few of my comments and used them - go figure! "Howard Johnson's decor" for Tojo's is one. Cheers!
  22. Try giving Zakushi a call. It is located on Denman. I haven't been there for a while, but if my memory serves me correctly they do a variety of yakitori including organ meat ones. They are from Okinawa I believe. Additionally many of the local Vietnamese places have various organ meats available. Check out the area on Kingsway and explore the various Vietnamese restaurants/cafes and I bet you turn up some winners. Additionally several of the Korean BBQs have various organ meats available. The area on Kingsway out in Burnaby has several that would be worth exploring. Just some thoughts..... Cheers!
  23. The Vancouver version seems to really miss most of the good Chinese, Taiwanese, Vietnamese, Korean, Malaysian, Singaporean, etc., etc. places. It covers all of the places you would expect to see in a hotel guide book sitting on your desk when you check-in to a downtown Vancouver hotel. I agree - give me a laptop, wifi, and egullet! Cheers!
  24. Might want to read the health report at Toshi: http://www.foodinspectionweb.vcha.ca/Inspe...A8-005004AE1145 Cheers!
  25. I used to agree. But my last (and final) visit there was pretty bad. Details: http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?showtopic=76613&st=35 Cheers!
