  1. A photo of my first chrome KA model G mixer is in my avatar! It is a 1936 model and is absolutely cherry! The second chrome KA model G is mechanically great but the finish when closely eyed is pin pocked. Nothing real bad, but not cherry.
  2. You are a girl after my own heart, I have all of the Cuisinart sizes from the mini mate up to the 20 cup! And yes, sometimes having all of them really comes in handy.
  3. I recently bought a second chrome KA model G mixer ---circa 1930s, so I could do some multi tasking. I also made sure I have several extra bowls [including a copper bowl] for the machines. My Webpage
  4. I went to a church thrift sale a couple of days ago. I found a 12 by 18 inch black marble slab on rubber knobs that I put next to the stove for hot pots. It was a whole 50 cents. I also got an Oxo apple slicer corer for 10 cents. And a Crock Stick ceramic sharpening steel system for another 50 cents. It has 2 ceramic steels that sit in a wooden base at the correct angle. I think I did real good!
  5. Even though I have not recieved it yet, I just had to tell you guys about my new/old knife! I bought it on Ebay, and it is a 14.75 inch [including handle] butcher's knife stamped with the face and hat of a chef and says "VERITABLE BRESDUCK, SABATIER, PARIS, FRANCE, and then "CHEF AU RITZ'. The steel blade goes all the way through the handle and it has 3 rivets. I didn't have a butchers knife and they seem to be fairly rare in the Sabatier line.....
  6. Yep, it sure is a nogent style knife! You got a really great deal on your Elephants!!!!!! That price just can't be beat! Are they carbon or stainless?
  7. My favorite is a little 2 1/2 inch paring knife that is so old, you can't read the markings! My favorite chef's knife has a 14 inch blade and it is marked on the blade Professional Sabatier. It is a beautiful tool.
  8. Thanks! They are a mix of different Sabatier carbon steel knives from various eras and various lines. I thought the case was very appropriate for the knives....... I just had to have it, so I paid about $100 bucks for it on Ebay.
  9. WHAT? NO PICTURES? Sorry. I don't have a digital camera. My knives look like yours though. ← Finally got a cheap digital camera, but no flash and the room is small and dark. The case is too heavy to move to a brighter area! Forgive my horrible photos, but you will get the point.
  10. Beating egg whites to their highest peaks is the best usage, and now your KA can do it for you! I don't know about pricing. The last I heard they would go between $120 and $250 or so.
  11. I found a source on the internet that makes them -- similar to the one I bought from Bridge Kitchenware! Bridge Kitchenware does not make or sell them anymore, so I was looking around and look what I found! "Thank you for your interest on our up and coming Kitchen Aid copper bowls to fit the specifications of the mixers. There will be 3 models 1) professional 600, 2) Heavy Duty, 3) Artisan / twist lock model." David Black French Copper Studio North American Division" sales@frenchcopperstudio.com http://www.frenchcopperstudio.com/ Isn't this great?
  12. There is a neat little attachment that came with my Hobart N-50 mixer called a pastry knife. It is the bottom one on the left. It really makes cutting the shortening in easy, but alas, it is no longer available.
  13. When I first read about this I thought it was awful, and I still do. Ms. Lewis is being kept from her family by this man, and I suspect his motives in the "partnership". I have family about the same age and in similar physical and mental health. I would do everything possible to ensure they were not being exploited and returned to the bosom of their family.
  14. Ah jus loves my okra yall..........and I like my offal with hot sauce (chitlins that is).
  15. I own 2 Vita Mix Commercial 4000 Maxi blenders. They are great. I wouldn't trade them for a new one or for any other brand blender.
  16. I bought a 20 qt aluminum clad stainless steel double boiler from a used restaurant supply store, and an extra insert. I took the insert to a metal fabricator, and had them drill colander holes in it like a spaghetti pot. The shop did a wonderful job, and it looks like it was manufactured that way. Now I have a big double boiler, and when I need to blanch or steam large quanities of food, I use this colander insert. Works like a charm.
  17. WHAT? NO PICTURES? Sorry. I don't have a digital camera. My knives look like yours though.
  18. I have a large set of these old carbon sabatier knives. I keep them in a very large wood and plexi-glass Sabatier retail store display case I found on ebay.
  19. Lord, lord. It makes me want to holler, it looks so good.
  20. These do have separate lids available in solid stainless steel.
  21. I like the Vollrath stainless steel, aluminum clad stockpots you can pick up in restaurant supply stores. They are relatively inexpensive, sturdy, and they do the job well.
  22. I got a double [2roll] vintage country store butcher paper dispenser, which I will use for big rolls of foil and plastic wrap. I got 3 different rolling pins for my collection. I got a 3 tier Kitchen Carousel Utensil Organizer. And a commercial rolling doughnut cutter.
  23. I was involved in a recycling project, and every Saturday, I would go to the metal recycling center. Every time I went there, I would see the same old faces bringing metal in to earn cash. I noticed a great amount of cookware coming to the center. There would be huge Vollrath stockpots, the heavy square aluminum army roasters, Vollrath steam table pans, sheet pans, you name it, it came through. Some of it was dirty, like the dishwasher refused to be bothered. Some of it looked brand new. One day, I saw a case of hotel pans unopened! Yep, employee theft was going on!
  24. I always tell my friends, if it does not have Hobart on the Kitchenaid mixer, don't buy it. Of course the Hobart N-50 mixer is the best of it's size, it is expensive. I own a very used N-50 I bought on Ebay for about the price of a new Kitchenaid -- built when Hobart first came out with the N-50....1947. My neighborhood Hobart Service shop said it was in excellent shape, and better made than the new N-50 mixers.
