    Top Chef

I agree! Harold said, hey all I had to do with this was hang back and cook, and the judges were fine with that. Maybe the judge's animosity was due to the fact that Harold was on the winning team? ← and had indemnity from winning the sandwich challenge.
  3. Who is Sharla? ← The pretty blond cook.
  4. Time to go to West Seattle: Eats
  5. Well, Tom and Jackie getting into chocolate! I have to say, I see nada wrong about a "Chocolate Lounge!" ← Tom talked about it on the radio show a few weeks ago. They are working on savory dishes using chocolate - mole, shortribs finished with cocoa butter...plus desserts. Or so one of the employees mentioned in passing.
  6. I was at the Queen Anne store last night, but stayed away from the chocolate shelves other than the pistachio dark chocolate brittle/toffee. Typically do see Schar and Val, along with some single origin bars most with TJ labels. Do not recognize Domori or Santander, so I'd guess no. Have you looked at the ChefShop website? They have a local retail store (though it is/has just moved and may be closed at the moment.) They have a bunch of special chocolate, though at top dollar. You might see if she can bring you any Theo chocolate - the new organic chocolate being roasted and processed in Fremont. Theo
  7. Crust would be a cute name for a pie bakery.
  8. Anyone have any experience with this company? They offer a free coffee maker and biscotti if you try a pound of their coffee - much like Gevalia. offer

    Fruit puree

I know nothing about the rest of this - but Trader Joe's has fresh frozen mango chunks.
  10. Sharla - au revoir.
  11. Crush, Crow, Veil, Moxie, Via Trib
  12. While you are on your kick - they have goat (appears fresh) in at least one of the two, yes count them, two, Latino mercantile stores on Greenwoood Ave, North of 85th? And dried epozote, and all sorts of interesting things.
  13. Very bright side. I actually agree about the quality (lack thereof). I am not crazy about BN, but I noticed they had some French type pastry. I hope you have had some of the desserts at Crush? I tried two the other day and they were very good and different. Not French, but far from standard American. Pineapple upside cake, in theory. Coffee macaroons with caramel mousse (very sticky), chocolate disk, sea salt and a tangy cassis sauce.
  14. Le Painier? Le Fournil? Boulangerie Nantaise? Even the Greenwood Bakery has eclairs.
  15. Since you will be on the Eastside, you might check out Mixtura in Kirkland - it has the biggest buzz. New Andean - Peruvian fushion.
  16. Jason got crowned one of the Best New Chef for Food & Wine 2006 - off in NY getting his picture taken for the cover. Lovely dinner with a few food mis-steps, but extremely well handled by the staff. Go before the magazine comes out (July?) and they are even more crowded. They have some great and unusual desserts going on too.
  17. Harvest Vine, Tango, Lark...or app's at Union or bar bites all over town (Brasa, Marjorie...)
  18. Okay Cremant goers - how about a separate thread? I'll start it (though I haven't been)- but let's move on...
  19. Last one I watched had Greg Atkinson as moderator - quiet, knowledgeable, mustache...was this who you saw? Greg
  20. Flying Fish usually has good oysters too - you missed the big festival though.
  21. Agreed. And botantical research indicates three different animals. Epozote, Greek oregano (true culinary), and Mexican - that is.
  22. I've successfully grown it from seed - but it an annual around here and this ain't the season.
  23. Miele has an 18" wide dishwasher... oops - you already knew that.
  24. Now that is an energetic group - and Seattle really put on the feast - thank you restaurant owners and chefs. Fabulous tastes from 25 or so of the finest - Herbfarm, Canlis, Union, Crush, Rover's, Flying Fish, Brasa, Seastar, Cascadia, Lark, Yarrow Grill, Etta's, Rick Rodgers, Pink Door, Madison Park Cafe, Ray's, Hunt Club, and whoever else I am forgetting, plus wineries and merchants. (I expect Taste WA will have a similar feel this year with it's new venue and format.)
  25. They are here - great fun to run into attendees! Welcome all. See you tonight at the Market. PM me if you need any advice, assistance.
