  1. @kayb I think that is a pretty good policy and one you should stick with. HC
  2. More broiled oysters at Deb's request. The 75 cents each price is still on. This time, I used aluminum foil to stabilize each shell and contain the liquor with good results. HC
  3. Well, things that have been in the fridge for more than 4 days, go invisible to Deb, or as I like to put it, get left for the catfish, which would be me. I am always trying to use up these "invisible items" and if I tell Deb that I had "catfish pie" for breakfast or lunch, she knows what I mean, but seldom asks for details. HC
  4. Takeout sushi. An occasional indulgence that I sometimes order before shopping in the grocery store next door. Spicy Tuna and Spicy Tuna California rolls. HC
  5. I am glad to read that we share a clear set of established priorities! And I try to buy fresh clams if I am thinking ahead, but always try to have canned clams on hand for just such an occasion. HC
  6. Catfish pie. Now, the only catfish in this, is the one with his fork in his hand, trying to keep the leftovers in check. Last of the leftover spinach, last of the kielbasa and onions and a few strips of brie broiled on on Tuscan toast. HC
  7. On a previous trip to Italy, we went to Deruta, a hill town famous for ceramics, and I bought the little container with the birds, that I use as a salt pot. Over time, I managed to chip the lid, which troubles me to this day, and I often say that I wish I had bought several, because the day that I break it completely, will be a sleepless one for me. We had planned to return to Deruta on our recent trip to Italy, but just never did. On a day trip to a town called Rada, Deb fell in love with the item you question at a place called Rampini Ceramics and bought it, even though we both thought it was over priced and too big for a salt pot. Later in the trip, I bought the one on the left which is my every day table salt pot (as I am sure you can tell from some of my pics) and the older one, with the birds, has been moved by the stove, so that neither one gets moved as often. To answer your question, we still don't know what to do with the one Deb bought, but Deb just likes to look at it on a regular basis, so I use it to keep the napkins from flying around the room when the A/C is on. I think it currently contains Euros left over from our trip. I know that is way too much information, but it is what it is and thanks for asking. HC
  8. Boneless chicken legs stuffed with spinach blue cheese and pine nuts and baked in sauce. I have been eyeing these 2 lb Italian bread loaves at Aldi with bruschetta in mind and yesterday, I caved. HC
  9. An omelette with leftover garlic spinach, crumbled blue cheese and pine nuts, fried zucchini and fresh salsa. HC

    Aldi

In addition to my 67 cent dozen eggs and my $1.33 gallon of 1% milk at Aldi this morning, I found these, which are surprisingly good. HC.
  11. I paid a visit to my favorite local brewery yesterday, hoping for at least one of my favorites. Their Facebook page for the day before listed 2 of them, This side of Paradise (DIPA) and World @ Large (APA). Much to my chagrin, they were out of both when I arrived. I returned home with empty growlers, and a heavy heart. https://www.facebook.com/BeerdBrewing/ HC
  12. More cicchetti. HC
  13. Boy, couldn't we all have one of the best pot luck weekends of all times! HC
  14. Not my intent, I assure you. I have been buying zucchini for months now, and you have been killing me with your endless harvest. Let's just call it even. HC
  15. I want to call these char grilled oysters, but more accurately, they are NOLA char grilled style, broiled oysters, with hot bread for dippage and a little tortellini salad. HC
  16. Poached eggs on Italian toast, scrapple , fresh salsa and grapefruit. On my last visit to Aldi, mixed ruby and plain grapefruit were 29 cent each and I loaded up on them. HC
  17. Linguine with clam sauce and garlic toast. HC
  18. Things are just fine the way they are, Anna! HC
  19. I believe I can speak for the majority and say we all want a full report! HC
  20. Shelby, I believe you mentioned a few weeks back that you had friends in the chicken egg business. I know that crushed oyster shells are a requirement for laying hens, to get nice thick egg shells. You might want to ask them if they have more interest in those shells than the dogs. Just a thought. HC
  21. It is interesting that I first read about Crystal hot sauce here on eg. There were such raves about it that I had to try it. Unfortunately that was just about the time the factory was destroyed by Katrina and I was out of luck and pretty much forgot about it. Then a few years ago we visited New Orleans and we had char grilled oysters and fried green tomatoes at Superior Seafood on St. Charles Ave and I happened to spot a bottle of it on the table and the rest is history. I think Deb liked it as much as I did. I brought a few bottles home and watched our supply slowly dwindle with great concern. One day I happened upon it at a local supermarket and celebrated that very night with char grilled oysters and fried green tomatoes. I always keep a few bottles in the pantry to stave off panic attacks. HC
  22. These local oysters were on sale for 75 cent each and I got 18. After having the first 6 for lunch today, I wish I had bought twice that many. I may have to return for more and hope they are still on sale. And, they repourpose well! HC
  23. We were in a W-S a few years ago looking at their stuff, like a $700 counter space hogging panini press. We happened to hear a chap with a British accent say to a store clerk "I have just moved into a new flat and am looking for some pots and pans." It caught my attention, because what I heard was " I have just left my house and moved out on my own, and need a few things." I immediately felt for the guy and waited to hear how it went. The clerk's condescending and unhelpful response: "If you want pots and pans, go to Walmart, we sell cookware." left a lasting impression on us both! HC
  24. Baked stuffed shrimp, one of Deb's favorites, and I aim to please. HC
  25. Made a small excursion to get some fresh gulf U-10 - 12 shrimp that were on sale. I also found fresh local oysters fo 75 Cent each. My future has brightened! Deb's reward will be baked stuffed shrimp tonight. I chose a more immediate gratification as mine. A little cicchetti lunch complete with a glass of World at Large, a local APA (the minute hand was pointing at 5, that counts, right?). HC
