Since originally reading your post, Lee, I've given much thought to your question about dark dark roasts. I guess I'd liken my response to coffee to how I drink wine. Big, full-bodied, beat-you-over-the-head Cabernet Sauvignon isn't what I want to drink all the time; neither do I want a super-dark roast every time I have a cup of coffee. Different coffee roasts (light, medium, dark) exist for a reason, and I find a definite taste difference between a lighter-roasted coffee and one that is simply insipid and bland. Mind you, this is coming from a complete coffee neophyte and reflects my own personal preferences. That being said, I thought I'd post my appreciation for the rich, full-bodied, creamy cappuccino that Alistair pulled for me today in the appropriate thread.

Waffle photos from Patisserie LeBeau as promised. White Chocolate Almond and Mango Gaufres de Liege Since Lorna doesn't have a huge predilection for fruity desserts, it surprised me that she liked the mango waffle as much as she did; it was, by far, the hands-down winner. I'm not much of a big white chocolate fan, but I found that the white chocolate tasted quite a bit like icing and ended up being a nice compliment to my creamy cappuccino. Apple Custard Filled Belgian Waffle Not as good as I would have hoped, though it probably would have tasted much better if warmed up. Without the delicate toothy crunch of the pearl sugar, the Belgian waffles just aren't as tasty as the Gaufres de Liege. Cappuccino ~ The Elysian Room Though it isn't dessert, I wanted to post a photo of Alistair's beautiful cappuccino -- the perfect accompaniment to this afternoon's sweet treats.

Okay Tricia. You were castigating Arne earlier?! Have you started drinking already? -
Three waffles shared between us. Our usual coffees: Lorna's americano and my cappuccino. And then all manner of sweet things at Noah's Easter party... cookies, candy and more cookies. Waffle photos up soon.

That, Laksa, is the understatement of the day! Yeah, veritably pouring. About 4 1/2 drops of rain, now long since gone. And the sun's trying to make an appearance again. -

A valid statement. You were virtually pinging after lunch today... hate to see the after-effects of that final macchiato. Excellent soup, as always. Absolutely loved the Oyster Po'Boy. Now my favourite thing on the menu. -
Could you elaborate on this phenomenon a little further? Inquiring minds want to know. ← Cat's never eat really hot food. Blood temperature of a freshly killed rat is about as hot as it gets. ← Ack! Thanks... I think... Not so much with food, but I'm also one who can't drink hot, hot coffee or tea, or my tongue will feel the aftereffects for the rest of the day. Now warm sake... that's the right temperature!

Brown M & Ms by choice?! Were you at the end of the M & M handout line as a kid? -
Can't remember if their gelato is from Mario's or not, but their crepes are pretty tasty!

Filipinos love plantain chips too... much tastier than banana chips. They're usually available either lightly salted or sweet; the next time I'm in a Filipino food store, I'll check to see which brands they have available.

Not too far off from the sandwiches of my childhood. My Mom used to make me Cheez Whiz and pimiento sandwiches on white bread. If served one today, I'd demolish it in 2.2 seconds flat. And I still love the combination of peanut butter and honey. Haven't tried them nuked, but it does sound delicious.

To cap off a wonderful Japanese dinner last night, I ordered yuzu citrus sorbet for dessert. Absolute heaven! Beautifully delicate and floral, almost like eating a citrus-scented bouquet. Like poetry in my mouth really. I've never tasted anything like it and will be ordering it again soon.

Yetty, you 'sweet' thing! I'll troll through a couple of local Asian supermarkets to see what I can find. If I come up empty-handed, I might have to take you up on your oh-so-generous offer! In exchange, of course, for any North American/Canadian sweets that you might be jonesing for.

Kolachy Tuesday at The Kolachy Shop with Arne and Deborah. Mushroom pecan soup and the lamb special of the week. Both fantastically delicious. Oh, and half of an apricot kolachy for dessert. Quick cappuccino with Ian at The Elysian Room before desserting with Lorna at Sweet Obsession Cakes and Pastries. Lunch at Rodney's Oyster House on Wednesday with PeppermintTea, Ling and dUbVADER. Glass of Sandhill Pinot Blanc (2002 I think?), bowl of New England clam chowder and half-a-dozen oysters that disappeared in about 2 1/2 seconds flat. Followed yet again by cappuccino at The Elysian Room accompanied by the brownies with Ghiradelli chocolate chips that I bought at Prado earlier in the day. Wednesday-night dinner with Ian and his Dad at Yuji's. Oh sooooo good!! So much food. Where to start? Japanese eggplant in a mushroom sauce topped with bonito flakes. Sweet potato tempura fries with three dipping sauces (the curry tartar sauce is heavenly). Cornflake-crusted prawn karaage with sweet chili mayo. Tuna and salmon wasabi tempura. Beef tenderloin... I'll be damned if I can remember the exact preparation. A sashimi plate with hirame (flounder... unbelievably good), geoduck, toro (fatty tuna), two servings of hotate (scallop)... one rolled with shiso leaf and one sandwiching uni (sea urchin) topped with black tobiko, and wild sockeye salmon served with ikura (salmon roe). Grilled sablefish marinated in miso, sake and mirin and served atop grilled zucchini. A "smoky roll" with smoked salmon, smoked oysters and cream cheese... delicious. A large bottle of Asahi beer for Ian, a wonderful dry sake from Kyoto for me, and green tea for Dad. Dessert was a beautifully delicate yuzu citrus sorbet... incredibly floral, almost like eating an orange-scented bouquet of flowers. And lunch today at the White Spot in Science World. Chicken burger and onion rings for me, chicken strips and fries for Noah (as well as about 1/4 of my sandwich!), and we split a strawberry shake. -

Okay, you're right. I was being overly optimistic before checking The Weather Network. But you never know. Start sun-dancing y'all. And Arne, tsk tsk tsk for withholding that photo of a glorious Lee's doughnut! Honey-glazed old-fashioned is one of my faves. -
Back in my business-suit days, Le Crocodile was a favourite spots for lunching with clients. So too Chartwell and Il Giardino. In addition to the great suggestions already proffered, I'd add Bistro Pastis. Best pommes frites in town.

Yeah, about as Irish as I am! Dinner looked tasty but, true to form, it's dessert that I'm salivating over! See you at lunch tomorrow. And don't worry: it'll be blue-sky gorgeous. -
Today's warm spring weather had me craving something light and green for dinner. Oriental salad made with chopped sui choy and green onions tossed with a butter-toasted mixture of crushed ramen noodles, slivered almonds and sesame seeds. Dressing was oil, soy sauce, cane vinegar and sugar. For the requisite shot of protein, I did a cheater quick-cook riff on chicken adobo by simmering some sliced chicken breast in cane vinegar, soy sauce, sriracha, garlic and bay leaf. Of course, any healthy effects from the salad were immediately negated by the slice of mango-peach pie I had for dessert.

Vindication! I am not alone in drinking Coke with Chinese food! And only Coke. Pepsi isn't strong enough to cut through all the grease and MSG. -
Mmmmm... petit fours from Notte's Bon Ton. At my first job out of university, one of the guys in the office used to bring in a box of petit fours for the office every other week or so. I had to restrain myself from eating everyone else's portion after inhaling mine.
