  1. Because this is a public health issue, and bar/restaurant owners are more concerned about money than health. Therefore the legislators must step in. I have rarely seen a person smoking a cigarette and eating their dinner at the same time.
  2. We ate here on Friday night and I was impressed with the food and the service. I ordered the Catfish w/ crawfish etouffe and spinach, and boring Tom had the fried CHicken. I thought my dish was very unique and quite good. Tom's was good, moist and tasty. I will go again.
  3. Yes, Sri Thai is very authentic and very good. Casual Thai has a much nicer atmosphere though. Wondees is in my opinion the best Thai around, and it is in Hackensack. There is a good thread.
  4. They have been open for at least 1.5 years (I work across the street). I never see any business in there, and I took a look at their menu once and it seemed rather inviting. I am such a fan of Sri Thai or Wondees that I must admit I have not tried this spot. I think they are BYO.
  5. Yes, from what I understand their website to say, for dinner & lunch.
  6. They have changed their menu. It is no longer the foodie menu, but wraps, and salads and such. They still have entrees, and I assume specials, but it ain't the same.
  7. From Beekman Wine website: (beekmanwine.com Good listing of BYO restaurants) Sum Dynasty took a long time to open at the former site of the Sounding Board, but the wait was definitely worth it. This white tablecloth restaurant is one of the finest and most interesting Oriental restaurants in the area. As its name implies, Dynasty features an enormous selection of Dim Sum, but only on Saturday and Sunday from 11 am until 3 pm. A terrific introductory “Dim Sum Club” is available at other times as an appetizer. The entree selection is enormous with traditional Chinese offerings, as well as many unusual dishes (Filet Mignon, Veal Chop, Rack of Lamb, etc.). The sauces show a refined touch. This is a restaurant to come back to. Dinner for two is only $42. Anyone try this place yet??

    Blu

A friend and I went to Blu last night. The space is lovely, decorated in a minimalist design. Dinner was a delight. We started with the Calamari and Octopus apps. The calamari was perfect, the octopus was a little over cooked and not as tasty as the calamari. We then had the Salmon and Tuna. Both were excellent, esp. the Tuna with perfectly delicious mushrooms and wasabi sauce. We had dessert, the choc. mouse and the tapioka .....the choc. mouse was great, the tapioka was just okay. The french press coffee...excellent. Overall a really nice dining experience. The bill was under 80$ before tip. I will definately return.
  9. Yikes!! And I swear I wasn't drinking!!
  10. Amanda's in Hoboken has a great early bird. I believe The Jefferson in Hoboken also has a prix fix all evening on Mondays.
  11. Had dinner at Fortunato last night on the egullet recommendations. When we arrived we were greated by valet parking. The parking lot is very small, and I think that is an unnecessary expense. We were greated warmly by all that we encountered. The dining room is lovely, although there are no windows and the white drop ceiling could use some color. The staff was friendly and playful. We had the grilled salmon and the sauteed bass with olive and fennel. They both were delicious. The chef Anthony came out to meet and greet. Very nice. We told him egullet/Rosie sent us We only had one soda with dinner. The bill came out to 60 dollars with tip. For Lyndhurst, I feel the price was a little high. The food was worthy, but the area may not sustain this. Lose the valet, lower the prices?

    China 46

I started going to China 46 purely from reading about it on this site. I have only gone for dinner. I have tried several of the dishes recommended here, with only partial success. I thought they were either good, or just okay. I have noticed that since I have been going, the quality has slipped. I find the food to be greasier as well, and the prep. not as delicate. Different chefs? I found what I enjoy eating and order it often. Lately, hit or miss. And yes, print those specials on paper and offer as part of the menu. It would be helpful.
  13. On Spinners rec went to Sal Anthony's which I had never heard of. It is a little Italian Restaurant in Carlstadt in what looks to be a renovated home? Two little dining areas with 4/5 tables each. Spaced out okay, but a little cramped. He is expanding. Sal came out and said hello to all the tables Okay...okay...the food. Spinner is right...good to very good. I had Chicken Sal Anthony. Chicken breast with capers and olives in a wine lemon sauce. It was very tasty. Tom had chic parm..his fav...and he really enjoyed it..which is a miracle. He is sooo pickey about his Parm. The red sauce is really good here. They have a pastry chef on staff, but we skipped dessert. It is byo. Service is acceptable...not good/bad. Nice enough. We will return.
  14. I also had a couple of decent meals at Vivo, but the smoking in the restaurant would stop me from returning. It was oppressive, and only two tables in the place, but the space has no ventilation. Shame. I like Paisanos in Rutherford. Decent Italian. Mr. Bruno's for pizza...great sicilian. Village Gourmet is dog food. Mediocre Italian abounds. Thought Tero was okay. Not great, but decent. I don't know...aside from Cafe Matisse which I haven't tried, the rest around here are okay..not great. Sadly. Went by Asakara last night on Spinner's rec, and there was not a soul in there. I worry with a Sushi place if there is not a high turnover. We did not stay. Park & Orchard...diner food...same thing. Oh for a good restaurant that is affordable in this area...the lines would be out the door.
  15. "busy"?!?! people are standing in line for that crap. Tommy, you are 100% correct..this place is a better diner...food is mediocre, atmosphere is like a diner...Crap.
  16. Found IT!@!! On my search for decent Indian in NJ I have come up with nothing...not a decent place in the bunch compared to the better restaurants in NYC. But I have found the ONE. KINARA in Edgewater. It was my last effort. I was going to give up trying in NJ, and was told by a few (including Egulleters) that Kinara was good. It is good...it really is good. I will go again and again. We had a chicken Masala, and a Chicken Tandori and they were perfect. The Nan was good too. The service was fine, the atmosphere is fine (it seems to have been an old bar that had a nautical theme?), and the food was better than good. Very good. Glad to have found it. A little out of the way, but worth the trip.
  17. Wow...on my way soon. Exact address please
  18. Hello..going shopping at the Willowbrook mall with a friend ... yikes!! Dinner afterwards..need suggestions. Thanks
  19. I would say that still is a little wacky. It would make it hard to visit a restaurant that changes not just its menu, but its cuisine on any given night.
  20. There is a for sale sign in front of the building and no renovations going on that are visable. They sold their liquor license, are in the Entertainment book, and had been advertising heavily. It is closed...very closed.
  21. Sonoma Grill has closed their doors. Drove by yesterday and they have a for sale sign up. Another one bites the dust.
  22. Ate at the Jefferson last night after reading all the good reviews, and at the request of a friend who lives in Hoboken. Everyone is right...very good. We had the goat cheese ravioli and the seared Tuna. They both were very good. We had the Brooklyn Weiss beer on tap and it actually went well with these two choices. The wine list was a little out of range for us....and I am too cheap to pay the mark up :) The service was fine, and the decor is lovely. It does get a bit loud due to it being a smaller space. I ordered decaf coffee after the meal that I had to return it was so bad. They get their coffee from Empire which is usually excellent, but not last night..don't know why. I would go again.
  23. I absolutely have to disagree with Benny's for pizza. Huge, bad tasting slices. On the other hand my list of decent Hoboken: La Isla- Cuban Augustino's - Italian India on the Hudson (not as good lately) Amanda's Sri Thai Ali Baba Pizza place on 14th street near the Shipyard I have not tried the Jefferson, Anthony Davids, or Cucharamma yet. I have tried Zafra and it is okay depending on what you order. We had a reservation there for a bday and they made us wait another 40 minutes for a table. Not good. More than that the food is just okay.
  24. I guess the reason no one had any food rec's for Marco Island is because the food there is not good. We did not try too many places because we were batting zero from the top. Went to the Crazy Flamingo for dinner...had a chicken sandwich which was good. It was. Good fries. We sat next to the bathroom and ordered from the bar. That's just how it goes. That is okay. Good sandwiches at Snooks Inn...good fries :) We got bbq from Porky's and Michelbobs. We ordered chicken. Dry and tasteless chicken. We got pizza from Joeys. Okay, I guess. Not horrible. We went to Konrads for dinner. We both got pasta dishes..chicken w/cheese, and pasta and shellfish/fish. Horrible. Trully, unquestionably horrible. We ate in the rest of the time.
  25. Rosie, is this a decent restaurant? I have not heard of it before.
