Congratulations as well! We live close by and will drop by soon. Do you allow smoking? (I hope not!)

I have been to Cafe Cafe for lunch a couple of times. I had a chicken sandwhich Cuban style, and a chicken platter with mashed yams. I found the food to be okay...not up to the caliber of the previously mentioned places. Also, a bit overpriced for their offerings. I went with friends who have gone there for dinner as well. They found the food to be somewhat authentic, but definitely overpriced. Not a destination spot.

La Isla, La Isla, La Isla...did I mention La Isla?

Any actual rec's of the restaurants themselves? Does anyone know if any of these are any good? Thanks.

Sonoma Grill has sold their liquor license to a Chili's franchise. They are now BYOB. Yea!! I went a few months ago to dinner here..they are in the entertainment book. Odd. I enjoyed it very much. I had seared Tuna over baby bok choy in a sauce I don't remember but I liked it a lot. Tom had chicken (as usual), and it was just okay. Chicken dishes in better restaurants are always just ok. Why is that??

Have not been down in many years. Any good food rec's for Marco or Naples...pref. Marco Island? Thanks.

After seeing pics of the owner here on egullet, the first time I went I told him "egullet sent me", and he did take an interest, and service was better...but not good. He didn't recognize me this time, and I didn't feel the need to go through intro's again. He sat with a couple behind us during most of our meal. He was oblivious to the horrible service.

Went to Dhaaba for the second time last night, Friday night. Both restaurants were relatively empty, one or two tables. We were seated, but prior to my sitting down, or even taking off my coat, the waiter, whom neither I nor my friend could understand, told of us some specials, without prices. We never figured out what they were. I finally sat down, opened a couple of beers, and we didn't see the waiter for awhile. I had to call him over to get a couple of glasses, because we had already starting drinking out of the bottles :) We sat at a four-top, and he never cleared the extra silverware, etc. We ordered, which was very daunting because he was just not understandable. However, everything came as ordered. Whew. We had a roti, eggplant dish, and shrimp curry dish. The ingredients were fresh, the taste was wonderful, but they were soooo spicy hot that we did not finish them. Usually, waiters in Indian rest. ask if you want the dish spicy or not. Not here, and even if he did, you would not have understood him. I enjoy spicy food, even spicy hot food. However, I like to know it will be spicy prior to ordering, and I like the choice of how hot I like it. Our food sat for some time after we finished before the table was cleared in an abrupt manner. And the kicker, they add 15% gratuity to every bill. No incentive for the waiters to provide decent service. In most Indian restaurants service is great. Not so here. I tip well for good service, over 15%, but not for bad service.

My comparison is also A Taste of Asia formerly in Montclair. I have eaten at Satay in Hoboken on two occasions and it is mediocre at best.

Sushi Lounge is in Hoboken on Hudson and 2nd..or around thereabouts. It offers decent sushi, but you have to be into a scene. They have loud music, and a DJ there on some nights. Too loud to have a quiet evening chatting...it is a scene.

We have eaten here twice. The first time we really liked it, and decided to return. The second time was not so good. Very greasy. We had chicken with cashews, and an eggplant dish. We have not gone back again. Perhaps they have good and bad nights. Not sure, but China 46 is our favorite and we go often.

I thought Tina Louise owned Tina Louise :)

Had dinner at Dhaba the other night. We had Bhangan Burtha (Eggplant) and a Shriimp dish. We also ordered the yogurt app. The yogurt was just okay...The entrees were very fresh and very good. Service was okay, if not a bit pushy to order things we did not want, or his insistence on how we wanted things to arrive. I like the bread first (stupid American), and he just would not do it! The tables are a bit too close, and the music a bit too loud...but the food was enough to go back again. Some of the better Indian in NJ.

Yes, a beautiful interior, not so great food. We ate here a couple of years ago, and ordered the fish special. The fish tasted a little funny and I told the waitress. She had some explanation for it, and we continued to eat it, although not thrilled. We both were not feeling well the next day. I called, and they graciously offered a free dinner. I went with two friends, and they ordered the encrusted shrimp, and I ordered a chicken dish. We had a salad as an app. Salad was great, the shriimp were good, the chicken was bad. Never went back.

I have eaten here on several occasions. They do get very busy on the weekends due to the space being so small. I found the food better before they became popular, as is the way with so many things. I like this restaurant, but I do not love it. The food is consistently okay. Not great. Oftentimes a bit too greasy for my taste. I agree I would not go out of my way. I live very close, and still do not go often. I would travel to China 46, even though the food is by definition different, if in the mood for Chinese or 'Asian fusion', CHina 46 is much much better.

Paisano's is quite decent for Italian. After Athens is not bad but over priced. I think the Village Gourmet is horrible...food and service. I don't know how anyone likes that place. Have not found decent take out Chinese. Daruma is good sushi and Korean food. My take on my town...Cafe Matisse is for special occasions, very pricey. I heard Sonoma is under new management..that it had gone downhill...heard this from someone who works there. I have not eaten there yet, but they are now in the Entertainment book. Park and Orchard...another one I just don't understand. Great wine list, sure. But the food is nothing great in my book, and it never changes.

Went to eat here with a 2 for 1 coupon for dinner. It was less than mediocre...probably would not go back again even with two for one. We had Chicken Parm and a mixed scallop shrimp dish. The sauce on the Parm. tasted like Ragu. The seafood dish was just bland. I have had brunch here before and it was not terrible.

So Finks will be open again soon on Thursdays? Sorry. Not sure if that was your post.
-
We went to Stickeys a couple of weeks ago. We ordered the chicken, fries, slaw, and cornbread. I know this is against the grain.....completely unremarkable. Just okay. Would not go back again. Missing Finks! Perhaps the meat dishes are better here, as the chicken really was not great.

That new Italian restaurant in Rutherford...the one that plays the Italian music loudly...near the circle....they have a lunch Buffet. I don't know the name though..there is a thread on it here. Too lazy to look

The best buffet I have been to is the Japanese buffet Minado. There are two locations, Parsipanny area and Little Ferry area. Really good fresh food. I was happily suprised...and stuffed!! http://www.minado.com/

Looking for recommendations for dining in Tarrytown.

Going through college I was a waitress in NYC. I didn't know anything about wine...nothing...nada. When asked I would avoid the question, or just wing it, agreeing to whatever the customer said. I was horrible at opening bottles, and had no clue as to pouring. The management never taught the staff what to do re. wine, and we were all students, actors, etc. and really could care less. I opened up a bottle of Dom Perignon once incorrectly and 1/4 of the bottle came jetting out...pitiful. Many years later, my ex. is a wine consultant and I have learned a little bit about the subject, and laugh at how unprepared I was to discuss wine with anyone, much less a customer. IMHO most waiters do not know a damn thing about wine, and you need to have some knowledge going in. BYO is the way to go!!

In Northern NJ, where does one go to watch the Yankees win, and enjoy a decent meal. No smoking establishments please.

Ended up at Trattoria Fresca and wrote a review under that thread. We were very disappointed with our experience there.
