  1. We aren't really fans of Joel Palmer House- have been a few times in years past. It's just a bit dated for us now. Dundee Bistro is a typical stop for lunch on the way in for us. Have done Tina's quite a few times and am looking for something different (especially if they are slipping) Thanks for the suggestions. I wish someone had been to La Ramblas! I'd love to mix it up with french one night and spanish the next!
  2. We are headed down to our 4th year of t-day weekend wine tasting in north willamette and are interested in any new dining finds (in the McMinnville area). We generally eat at Tina's and at Bistro Maison. We have been to Joel Palmers a few times and are not really interested in going again. We had dinner once at Nick's about 4 yrs ago and weren't impressed, maybe it was an off night? We have seen write ups on Cuvee, La Rambla and the French Bear. I think we are sold on Bistro Maison one night, we have one more to fill..... your recommendations?
  3. no I haven't! where abouts on King is it or what is it near...I'll put it on my list!!
  4. a few days late but I decided to make bacon and white cheddar biscuits on sunday....they were very good with a little swipe of butter on them and a latte!!
  5. daily lunch report- today I tried Tropics on Weller. very tasty thai food! it was packed but they seem to move people through pretty quickly. It will also be a return stop as I would like to try many things on their menu. (obviously not chinese as this thread is titled!)
  6. You can't ← Shal my friend told me this (she is a fellow aussie): Not a good time to be looking for vegemite, it just got banned from the US!!!! That said it has been seen in De Laurenti Specialty Food 1435 1st Ave, Seattle, WA October 21st, 2006 - 115g jars at $5 each - some with labeling saying "Contains Folate" – but be quick!
  7. I love this place too. Try the siu kau (sp?) dumplings instead of the wontons--they are really good. When there's two of us, we also like to get a side of the veggies with oyster sauce and one of the fried crullers/chinese donuts for dipping. I really like the pork congee too--it tastes like carnitas porridge . ← thanks seagal, great recommendation. I still need to get the darn donuts...everyone had them today but that's a lot of food for just me. Those bowls of soup are huge!!!!
  8. maybe ask at the Brooklyn, Fish Club or The Waterfront???
  9. Can I butcher the name of a restaurant or what???? Ga Ga Loc is the place I was trying to talk about.................
  10. new bar Vessel is open on 5th next to the 5th ave theater. Jamie from Lumiere Tasting Bar in vancouver is now living here and running it. menu, space and cocktails are beautiful. Dayne had some major ice envy going on! Nabil formerly of Balmar is also going to be behind the bar. cheers!
  11. Not technically the ID but I finally made it up to Saigon Deli on 12th and Jackson and had myself a very tasty bahn mi ga (chicken) today. yum!!! and for $1.75? that is crazy! Yeserday I had some chow mein at La La Guac (sp?) it was ok but there was something very weird to me about the place, it was the first time I was worried about eating the food- not for any particular reason though.
  12. ← I was just at Shanghai garden today but I usually just order their lunch special!
  13. I ate at Purple Dot cafe the other day and thought it was fine. I had shanghai noodles with meat- they were a bit addicting. Saw their dim sum carts going by. I was the only caucasion in their which must be a good sign????
  14. Now I'm reading the current cook off thread about Xiao Long Bao, I've never had this shanghai soup/dumplings. Anyone know a good place in the ID that I can try this??
  15. homemade mac and cheese is a great side for roast chicken! great blog danielle!
  16. I would go to Lark, it's perfect to go later because they don't take ressies anyway so it will be getting slower by then. and if there is a bit of a wait still their bar next door is great! Also I think Union has a very nice late night bar menu, great prices on great food!
  17. we use the same caffe vita beans, dayne likes those best and beans from Lighthouse second
  18. I love this recipe for duck breasts (cooked as suzi has stated) with raspberry sauce made with 1 c. red wine, 2/3 c. good casis. cornstarch and raspberries. After searing the scored skin and flipping the breasts to skin side up you press a mixture of salt, demera sugar and cinnamon into the skin.
  19. Holy hell Eden, I've been traveling for business and have just now seen that you are blogging! I've only just started reading but I love that you are doing it neighbor!!
  20. I've also heard that this is the best way to enjoy Canlis. Wendy & Dayne, have you redeemed your certificate yet? ← We did redeem it on a nice wine dinner but have heard good things about the cocktails and plan to stop in soon to sample. but we won't be eating in the regular dining room again- not worth it and so many other restaurants in the area that are!
  21. Since I'm working in the ID now I will be trying every place! haha! Today I went to Canton Wonton House. for $5 I had a huge bowl of wonton soup with baby bok choy, bbq pork and noodles. YUM! everything about it was great. Anyone have any favorites here that I should try next time, cause there will definately be a next time.
  22. CC, I really enjoyed your writing! I've had the pleasure to meet and drink with Tony a few times and it definately is an experience hu? Anyway your story was really good, thank you!
  23. we bought some whole raw milk at the farmers market last weekend and made ricotta again. this time the curds were very large and the consistancy of the cheese curds I buy from my cheese maker vs the smooth spreadable ricotta I'm use to getting. Do you think it was the raw milk or something else? The taste was fantastic but the texture was a bit chewy.
  24. Yep, it is. I haven't been to ONE of these places . Silly (because I know their wonderfulness is arguable), but that actually bothers me a little. ← I have to say that there is no way Canlis should be on this list! Just seeing it there I can tell that the list is combined for the average american who has bucks in his wallet and is easily impressed and likes to name drop- IMHO of course. I've been to quite a few on the list and am also surprised by those left off. Definately politics.
