Yes, that's when my night's just getting started! ← Oh good! I though you meant that was when it was time to start winding down for a second there. Whew! Rocky

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Lorna what is this midnight stuff? That's a bit early isn't it? If I remember right, I hit a bunch of the places on Granville the last time I was in Van and I liked some of them but they were all pretty packed. Rocky

We're having a little shindig in Seattle on October 22 at Union. Here a link to more information on the event. Rocky edit to add: If you go way back to the beginning of the linked thread you'll see last year's event.

In addition, where would you go for late night eats? I define late night as between 12AM and 4AM, btw. Does anyone know if the Town Pants are playing anywhere Saturday night? I'm also looking for ramen suggestions near Robson, Kintaro is on my radar already. Thanks much guys. Rocky

I would second Rocking Wok and add Szechuan Chef and Monsoon in lieu of Wild Ginger. Rocky

Compass Wines in Anacortes will put together picnics for you to pick up, and they're on the way to the ferry. Rocky

If nothing else try the bar menu at Union served from 5-7 and from 10-12, it's a nice way to fit in a snack and try one more place. Canlis and Daniel's have nothing you can't get anywhere else in the country, they both have good execution but have nothing special about them. I would suggest Union, Boat St Cafe, Sitka and Spruce, Veil, Shiro's, Saito's, Lark, and Le Pichet. Rocky

Klary, it was wonderful to meet you and Dennis and I hope you come back soon. The tofu did have black bean sauce as well as red pepper sauce. It was wonderful seeing the region through your eyes, and I'll have a cinnamon twisp for you when i go by Twisp in a few weeks. Rocky

Actually, it was Paddy Coyne's we had lunch at and yes it was good. Rocky

I would totally recommend the buche taco at Asadero. Rocky

Tough call so far but I'm thinking Iron Chef 1 8.5 and Iron Chef 2 8, the tart looks wonderful. I'd vote for either Sitka and Spruce or Lark for dinner tonight. Actually, I would give the nod to Sitka and Spruce since I think it's more unique right now. You could also go to Joanna's, Catfish Corner, Meskel, Lalibela, or Nishino. Rocky

I vote for peaches, eggs, and bacon. Then either Henry or Lorna can make bacon and eggs ice cream and serve it on a peach cobbler. Come on guys you didn't want to drive all the way to Ranch 99? You could have had soon dobu for breakfast and hit Central Market on the way home, and swung into Fu Man for a snack. Not that I plan all of my trips in relation to where you can eat or anything like that. Looking forward to reading this week. Rocky

My two favorites are Tacos Asadero on Rainier and La Fondita #2 in White Cetner just down the block from Carniceria El Paisano. Rocky

AFAIK the bar menu is only available in the bar, but perhaps if you called to explain your predicament they might be able to help you out. Rocky

I like the Blackfish Cafe in Lincoln City very much. As far as Portland goes I'm one of those who had a not so stellar experience at Park Kitchen, though I can see where they can hit one out. They do have very good cocktails though. If you find yourself wanting something fairly casual I would totally recommend Caffe Mingo, I just had a great meal there a few weeks ago on a trip to Portland. A new must stop for me in Portland is Pambiche, some of the best Cuban food I've ever had. Have fun. Rocky

There shouldn't be a problem with a butane burner in an apartment. As far as BTUs go, uhm, hot? Seriously mine gives it's measurements in cubic feet per hour, so it's possible to convert that to BTUs, which I did at one point, but it's a pain. If I remember correctly mine came to around 12,000 BTUs. Rocky
-
If you go the butane burner route, go to Ranch 99 to get them. They're constantly on sale for like $10-12. Rocky

For a single person after you add up all the utilities, internet access, and cable, the $600-700 really isn't that bad. That and UW Housing is much better to deal with than the apartment management companies we have in the U-District. I still live in the U-district since I work at UW after going to school there and I occasionally toy with the idea of selling my place and moving back into UW Housing. If only they had gas. The single resident apartments that grad students and staff get priority for are pretty nice. Rocky

You can order from Pure Food Fish Market in Seattle, one of the best fish markets in Seattle at Pure Food. You can also order from Pike Place Fish, the guys who thow fish around, online. The fish isn't as great but they will let you order in smaller quantities. Then there is Mutual Fish, arguably the grandaddy of all good seafood purveyors in Seattle. They don't have online ordering but you can call in an order. Rocky

Here's more pictures from Abra's Charcuterie Play Day. I learned a lot and it was great to have others around to make it less intimidating for the first time around. Rocky -
La Puerta is the taqueria formerly known as Morelia. I hadn't realized they had undergone a name change. Glad it worked out for you. Rocky
