Yay! Back to my stomping grounds! Rocky -
Have you been to Leny's in Tangletown? Rocky

Kim, the difference between medianoches and a regular cuban sandwich is in the bread. Medianoches call for a sweeter cuban roll, the mexican rolls I used are sweeter than the french rolls most people have available to them so I go ahead and call them medianoches. Mine contained, carnitas, ham, provolone, pickles, caramelized onions, and mustard. Peter, great looking seafood fry! Klary, just beautiful and delicious looking as always. Kbjesq, welcome and that looks like a wonderful crust. Rocky

Tracey, the skirt steak looks absolutely perfect! Ann, all of those pictures are definitely droolworthy! Last night I made medianoches and had chips and pico with them. For the filling I used carnitas. Rocky

I haven't had a chance to look over here in a while and everything looks amazing! My first hot weather meal of the year: Pitas and Hummuses Couscous salad Caprese Rocky

O'Asian is actually quite good, the price point is just a bit higher than you would normally expect for dim sum. The space is very nice though and is closer to the retail core than the ID which is part of why the prices are higher, it's a very expensive space. Rocky

Klary, you make eating healthy look so appealing! Another night of getting winter out of my system, Austrian Veal Goulash, mashed potatoes, and steamed broccoli. Rocky

glad you liked lee's, tsquare, i'm so glad to have it in my 'hood. i think the owner or chef is a WG alum. we love the honey walnut prawns and lee's special fried rice which features tons of egg, and in the Spring, you're likely to find asparagus hiding in there. the HWP portion is absurd - i think there are 13 prawns/order - and the price is under $10. Lee's HWP are delightfully evil, right down to their bed of sweet, mayo-laden lettuce. someone at the stranger or weekly did a review a few years ago and recommended the nine flavor beef (or was it the seven flavor beef? i think they have both - but i have no idea what's "missing" from 7 that's present in 9. rocky? school me.) very fast service and a very efficent take-out operation (nice when you'd just as soon skip the aisle-meandering youth). i'll have to try the noodles. ← The funny thing is there are far more than 9 flavours in either dish, I don't think I've ever seen an actual recipe for either one. It's kind of like chili, you know it when you see but no two are the same aside from the deep fry and stir fry thing, end even then, the deep fried is woked at the end. Rocky

Cantonese Restaurants near Redmond?
rockdoggydog replied to a topic in Pacific Northwest & Alaska: Dining
You'll find that most Chinese food in the Seattle area is Cantonese. Near Redmond I would recommend King's (formerly Ming's) in Bellevue and Sea Garden in Bellevue. I have no idea what you expectation of Chinese food is but most here is adequate at best with a few highlights. If you want really great Chinese head north of the border to Vancouver. I agree with Tighe as well about seafood, Union is my favourite place to go for pretty much anything they do but the seafood is wonderful. Sushi is also a great way to experience seafood in Seattle. BTW, you'll never see Carolinian BBQ here, it's a wasteland. Rocky -
Went to the Lost Abbey beer dinner at Union last night with SeaGuy and TallDrinkofWater. As always a wonderful dinner with plenty of food to go around and plenty of drink for all involved. The menu The Beers Fried quail for starters, I didn't get a pic of the almonds or the prosciutto - paired with the Devotion Ale Foie Terrine with pear mostarda paired with the Melheuse Brut Reserve, the only non Tomme Arthur beer of the night Seared Halibut with English Peas and Morels, had to sop up the broth with some bread, paired with the Avant Garde Braised Veal Cheeks with potato ramp purée, I love that stuff, paired with Red Barn Roasted Venison, mmmmmmmm, paired with 10 Commandments The always good chocolate terrine paired with the 2005 Cuvee de Tomme Some very different and wonderful beers, all nodding to Belgium but not slavishly devoted to them. Portland Restaurants: Reviews & Reccomendations

Stay away from Bay 13. Rocky -
I second Tavolata and would add Boat St, they have a small private dining space. Palisades' private space is rather large and 12 would definitely rattle around in it. Eastlake Bar and Grill also has a private space with it's own deck and there's a big deck downstairs with a tiki bar. Rocky

Ann that all looks so gorgeous, especially that pot pie! Prawncrackers I love the dim sum! Mother's Day dinner with my GF's parents Salad of Frisée, Haricot Vert, and butter lettuce Asparagus and Avocado soup, with a seared scallop, I used the avocado to thicken the soup, but I forgot my blender was broken and so the result was not as smooth as I hoped. Seared Cod on Beluga Lentils, and some braised ramps on the side, should have made more ramps Saffron and Herb Chicken Sous Vide, Balsamic Roasted Asparagus, Sautéed Oyster Mushrooms, and Shallot Sauce, I think I'm going to cut out the saffron next time. Tracey and Christine007, great minds do think alike! Bruce, that crust on the chicken looks great! Wendy, tell Dayne he's doing a great job! Thanks very much Emily, it was dirt simple, I'm trying to pretend that it is summer already. Rocky

Prawncrackers, that's some awesome looking lamb and the sweetbreads look great! Bacon, egg, lettuce, tomato, and cheese sandwich the other night, using pork jowl bacon, man I love the stuff. Last night was a mango avocado salad with lime cilantro chicken. Rocky
