I should add that if you wanted good Mexican in the U-district I would go to either Agua Verde or Morelia. There's a lot of bad Mexican to be had in the U-District. While Seattle is not the best place to find Mexican food, it's actually pretty far from being the worst. If you're willing to go to the Burien TJ's you'll find a lot more good Mexican available to you. Rocky

Actually Mexican BBQ can be had at Taqueria La Estacion but that's nowhere near a Trader Joe's. Near the U District TJ's I would have said Burrito Loco a year ago but it's now gone. If you want Mexican in or near the U-District there's Agua Verde and Taqueria Morelia. Have fun. Rocky

It does come with sauce that and it is indeed boozy. The biggest appeal to the bread pudding at The Ram is that it comes on a sizzling platter and you get a ton on aroma because of it. Rocky

Seriously? The Ram? I'm shocked! You know how I feel about bread pudding (can't stand it) and I love, love, love the bread pudding at Boat St Cafe. You think I should try The Ram's? ← Yup, believe it or not it's not bad. You might not be wild about it though it's more for people who already like bread pudding. Rocky

If bread pudding fits in, try the bread pudding at The Ram and Boat St Cafe, in that order. Rocky

Finally after three years and since I had my last one Malarkey and I went to Boat St Cafe for Eggs bene today. The eggs benedict renditions do change from Saturday to Saturday, this weeks featured a tomato and sharp white cheddar on a piece of baguette. The eggs were perfectly done, I mean really really perfectly, as at 35th St Bistro it walked that fine line of cooking the whites while leaving a nice runny yolk to burst forth in bright yellow goodness. The hollandaise was wonderful as well, absolutely not made froma powder or any cheating method, I visited the kitchen afterwards where Susan Kaplan was whipping up a batch on a little butane burner in a double boiler consisting of a small pan of water and a pyrex measuring cup. At first I thought that the lack of ham would distract me from the total bene experince but I found it to be not so. Between the cheese and tomato, the benefit that ham would usually lend was present and not missed at all. This bene goes on my board at 9, with my sole nitpick being that it would be nicer if the bread was thinner as it can be a little bit of work to cut through it and not wreck the bene. We also ordered a corn bread with a custard middle and maple syrup that was fantastic. Susan can bake! Now the pictures Rocky

Tried out Cremant last night, there are still a few new restaurant bumps to smooth out there such as getting doneness right but overall it was a positive experience. Wonderful glass selection for the wines, almost every wine on the list is available by the glass. Good flavors and pretty good service that is still settling in but even so, still better than average. The cassoulet looked very good, and the duck confit was excellent, good cheese selection and a very generous cheese plate with ten cheeses is available for just $10. I would not hesitate to go back and it has all the makings of a very good restaurant. Rocky

Cremant was pretty good and a fun place for a date night I think. There are still a few issues with being new but overall I thought it held more hits than misses. Rocky

I'd add Fort St George for tonkatsu in the ID. If you want to stay on the eastside the best options there for oysters are probably McCormick and Schmick's and SeaStar. I would second Brooklyn and Union in Seattle itself, though Union only has one or two varieties available on any given day they do get some really great oysters. No matter what though, I would say to look for Totten Virginicas on the oyster menu wherever you end up. On the eastside for dimsum try King's, formerly Ming's. If you're really willing to travel for dimsum though go to Vancouver. Rocky

Visiting Seattle for Anniversary

My votes would be for Union or Boat Street Cafe. The service is great both places as is the food. Ethan definitely shines with fish and fowl but if you call ahead you can easily work something out. I totally agree about Nell's, I love the food but hate the space. Eva may also fit your bill, it's not the fanciest place but it is good and the menu is varied enough to navigate any needs and with enough notice you can definitely work it out there as well. Rocky -

I really miss La Lousianna's Barnyard Pimp, has anyone been to Joanna's yet? Rocky

For a business meal I would second Union and Morton's, I'd also add The Brooklyn to the list. Rocky -

Yup, the owner is my mom's second cousin's third cousin twice removed, but nepotism aside it's quite good. Everything comes out in less than five minutes and the wok dishes all possess wok hay. The dan dan noodles are decent, not Seven Stars Pepper but good. Rocky -
We tried to go to Pomegranate on Sunday, unfortunately when we got there it was closed for a private event, so on to Brown Bag instead. Brown Bag serves their benedict on a croissant and you get your choice of traditional or San Juan which comes with smoked salmon. I, being the hidebound benedict conservative that I am, ordered the traditional and rebel Malarkey ordered the San Juan. We also ordered a side of corned beef hash (CBH) to share. The Brown Bag bene get s 6.5 on my scale. There is nothing actively offensive about this bene, and it is pretty tasty. The hollandaise is definitely powdered but not offensively so, and the eggs while having some runny yolk to them could have been runnier, the ham was good and generously sliced, the failing lies mostly in the croissant. This is not to say that it is a bad croissant, it was properly buttery and light, just that it doesn't belong in a bene. It compresses down to nothing, offering not much of a platform for the bene to be eaten on and has nothing in the way of tooth to offer substance to support the bene. I'll leave the San Juan to Malarkey to comment on. As far as the CBH is concerned, it's individual parts are all good, it's just that I'm a fan of canned CBH, now the pictures. Truth be told: Where've you eaten lately? (Part 2)

That sushi looked so beautiful Lorna! Trip to Vancouver is definitely in order. Rocky -
I would add pho (pronounced fuh) to the list and second or twentieth mushrooms, oysters, fish, mussels, coffee, and smoked salmon. I would also add lamb prosciutto, because you can't get it anywhere else - it is unique to Salumi, and definitely the wine. Rocky

Where should I go for my birthday?
rockdoggydog replied to a topic in Pacific Northwest & Alaska: Dining
Or around the corner from T&T at BCD Tofu House, farther north is L&L Hawaiian BBQ. How casual are we talking? There's a really good taco truck near Ranch 99. Rocky -
FYI for you guys, lunch gets busy at peak time, if you want to take your time and have a relaxing lunch go after 100. Reservations are very much reccomended for dinner especially on Friday or Saturday. The food is just as good as it was before and much of the old staff is back. Run, don't walk. Rocky
