  1. The first bathroom attendant that made a huge impression on me was in Miami. She was in the toilet 45 years, "Place For Steak." It was on 79th St. causeway. I was young but with all big players, she always helped me to stay sober, know the cons, and let me go out the back door. We became friends, I cooked southern greens and would bring her a bowl. She put 3 children though college. I never got caught in a raid! I think to this day I give advice due to her.
  2. I've bought six.Have been given about 30, that I've haven't given away, Love looking for more, specially old style.
  3. I think you should just rate,we all can figure out that a place is high in food, not in decor, like in Zagat's. The food is the most important part for any dinner, service is a close second. Many people want that special hide away, the one that they are too lazy to find, they also want the place to be cheap. Just rate, people will be able to decide what they want for the food, and the mood that "they want' for that evening.
  4. Katie, my batch is in the nest, how about Melograno's in 2 weeks? Holly wants to go also.
  5. I'm pretty well known on this subject, kids are a pain. EVERY reservation is taken with "four?, Adults?", then I lay out the rules. I love nursing moms, feed them anytime anywhere. I have no restraining seats, you must hold the child. You may take them outside. I do not have a special menu. I hope they are happy eating off your plate. There is a outside doghouse with a lease, I've never been sure if the child or the parent should go there first. I've been in business 15 years, if I went out to a table, so far, the child would shut up, or I've asked to hold the child while they ate. It's amassing how smart they are! It's the parents that I question, even my own children will go out with my grandchildren and not pay attention to them. This is not your time, if you have your kids with you, it's time that is meant to be shared. Restaurants are to be enjoyed. I will throw any-person out that changes the atmosphere of pleasant dining, without takeout containers. I found out with a child, Hanna, that was a child of late-year's parents, that throwing an egg on the floor shut her up. I then gave her one and helped her smash it. She had such a delightful giggle. Her parents told me later that they cleaned up a few eggs since then.
  6. Go into a local food store, side of the road and get a bottle of rum that has "industrial.." on the bottom label. It has a bit of a Raki taste with quick effects of numbing of the gums, teary eyes and a slight nose drip. I even saw Zorro, but that's another story.
  7. I'm waiting for Sara to tell me the Sake and wine we had. Matt had me eating out of his hand. I have never been more pleased and can't wait to go back. She or I will post the dishes, soon.
  8. When did what go into law? I just got a crate full as a gift.
  9. I just called Michael of Anstasio's Produce, he said he gets the really large lemons from Calif. for the other restaurants that make their own. He's going to try to get them from Italy. He does have them from Spain in July and Aug. I'm going to do the Calif. ones, and I'll let you know when he has the others.
  10. Thanks Katie, I love it too. Lemons on the Amalfi coast are large, thick skins and far from perfectly formed. They smell wonderful and the oil is almost dripping. I've figured without those it wouldn't be the same, but I'm going to try yours. Lime huh, I found drinking shots, every day after meals, that even my skin glistened. Summer is on it's way.
  11. Give me an idea how they would like to eat. They have one hour and could order to have it ready. I'm in South Philly and know places that would do that. It's early enough that they won't be busy. Where are they going in Europe?
  12. I was brought a "gift" on a date, foie gras. The guy is fron Trenton, a bookmaker, and he was trying to impress. We did have fun, the fg was Hudson Valley and when I asked if he could get any from France he looked at me real serious and said, "we don't know no truck drivers there."
  13. I beleive hands down the best of the two is Grand Vefour. It is my favorite. Everytime I have been so impressed with the service, food, and the other diners. I have never been in there that there was another American. It is a littla loud, just because the food seems to bring that out. The smiles and lips are just too sexy from the food tasting that is done at the tables. I took my daughter that has worked for Spago's for 9 years. They made us feel so welcome and other diners were happy that we were there sharing a mutal joy. Guy Martin came out of the kitchen to meet us. When we left they had a copy of his cookbook waiting for me. My daughter still thinks it's the best restaurant ever. Taillevent is stuffy, the food is very good, the wait staff a little removed. Please try to sit in Victor Hugo's spot, you can see the garden and all the diners in the main (small) dining room. Lunch is also a wonderful experience, take four hours on a raining afternoon, then make love.
  14. Could the restaurant be MoMo, the old Nobo? It's on Rt. 38 across from a nightclub Prospecter? I've heard some good reports. This Gentleman does cause a stir, even before the date.
  15. I'm not to far away from Holly about wines, I ask, I try, I enjoy. The wines I brought to D'Jango are from a vineyard that was bought out by Gallo. I was told that these wines were going for over $30 and with Gallo on the label now, they were not selling. They are Gallo-Sonoma 2001Reserve Chardonnay and Gallo-Sonoma 2000 Reserve Caberet Sauvignon. Thanks for the pictures Holly, company was top shelf also.
  16. Hangovers, lots of water while you are drinking, use the excuse that you are cleasing, so you can enjoy better. Sex is great also, but usually is awfully time consuming, with the undressing and all. Lack of sleep before having to get up with the booze still high in your system, and great sex is the worse! The BEST cure, drink 4-6oz. of the juice from a pickle jar, the stronger the better. It works, and you can have all of the above.

    Strega

Strega has been one of my most favorite after dinner drink for over 30 years. I was shown how it first should be lite. Two people that drink it together will stay together, that is why it's named "witch".
