  1. No pan. Grill.
  2. I gotta second the vote for Thumann's
  3. If you turn your monitor around you'll see me taking the picture.
  4. No. You don't need one.

  6. We were a little less sophistocated then...
  7. Cluck U's Nuclear Fusion wings use a pepper extract in their sauce which makes them virtually inedible, which is probably a good thing as most extract based sauces have a flavor you would expect of burnt cat hair.
  8. Do they serve Honey Lemon AND Cherry cough drops?
  9. I did the same thing after cutting serranos, luckily I was alone at home so nobody witnessed the chile cha-cha that followed.
  10. Stay away from Awful Arthurs though, truly apt name...
  11. Have not been there in a few years, but The Blue Point Bar & Grill in Duck, NC was quite good. Great fresh seafood and high quality veggies. Their dinner menus include seasonal vegetarian selections for both appetizers and entrees.
  12. Wouldn't a hot dog with potatoes on it be an Irish Hotdog?
  13. It's not exactly a state fair, but in June Red Bank, NJ has a 3 day Food and Jazz Festival. It has continuous Jazz & Blues at 3 different stages. The best part is the food. There are over 2 dozen local shops and restaurants that sserve up some of their specialty items. Grilled portabella subs, blackened ahi tuna sandwiches, sushi and sashimi, jambalaya, pulled pork sandwiches from roasted whole hog (With a different name every year...) soft shell crab sandwiches. Of course there are still places hawking slices of pizza and butterfly fried grease blobs but nothing's perfect...

    Cooking Myths

It is a well known fact among BBQ circles that boiling ribs ensures that the BBQ sauce used will not be tainted by the flavor of pork...
  16. Bring them up to Mie Thai for a meal...
  17. For my money Memphis Pig Out in Atlantic Highlands has the best wings in the area. Crisp, plump and with just the right zing.
  18. So far the Colavita line of jarred sauces are the only ones I can find that contain no sugar or corn syrup. Their Puttanesca sauce is actually not bad.
  19. The mustard served with the cheese and onions at McSorleys in NYC. I figure it's Colemans dry mustard prepared the right way... with ice cold water and a bit of vinegar...
  20. Even with the following explanations (see URL), one needs to be a mathematition to make intelligent easy to understand comparisens when reading labels. On another issue, I do not even understand why the labeling information always breaks everything down to "servings" (often not stating what a "serving" is). Why are they not required to simply refer to the 'total' ingredients per pack, or better yet what it would be per pound, making it a standard!? http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/foodlab.html I like when you look at a label and see something like "Number of Servings: About 2 1/2"
  21. agreed. i generally don't have access to aged prime beef. but that said, i generally don't order steak unless it's at a reputable steakhouse where i know it's something a bit more special than i could buy at Kings. Have to concur here. The last time I did order steak at a restaurant was at the last eGullet Peter Luger lunch. At that event we ordered pretty much everything as well as the porterhouse!
  22. ironically i do go to bars, smoke occasionally, but still wouldn't mind seeing smoking go bye-bye, if only to make the law consistent. if there's one thing i hate it's inconsistency. if there's another thing i hate it's people not recognizing the inconsistency in their arguments, for or against. Tommy, I'll be the first to admit that I don't favor a consistent application of the law in this matter. I don't believe consistency is necessarily good. That gets back to the subjectivity of law.
  23. When eating out I generally won't order a steak. It is too easy to do just as well at home. When I dine out I want that kitchen staff back there busting butt and rattling those pots and pans, not just tossing a hunk of meat into a broiler and turning it once.
  24. Lactose intolerance is not an allergy. Allergies are the result of a persons immune system developing antibodies to a substance. Lactose intolerance results from the body no longer producing an enzyme that is used to digest lactose. As a result, the milk sugars are acted upon by bacteria in the lower intestine and can result in a lot of nasty side effects.
  25. Looks like I might be trying lunch on Sunday at Bolero Cafe in Highlands. Am in the mood for some gazpacho and a Cuban sandwich.
